I refer to it as climate change. If you wanted to change the climate of a planet, this is what it would look like:

Climate change is better for the scientists & governments, because the effects (and management needs) differ by region.

Last year I took bets that Arctic ice melt wouldn't trump 2007 (and won, though really I scraped through on a technicality) and narrowly avoided a fancy dress forfeit. This year you'd have to be mad. http://nsidc.org/data/seaice_index/images/daily_images/N_stddev_timeseries.png
