  2. i like the sky box idea but bear in mind the point of the dark mod was create a tool set to build ANY fantasy based mod, not just thief games. by all accounts people could build their own mod tree off the main TDM mod catering to a tactical hack and slash crowd, if someone wanted to put in the time ... is cool and all to get dreamy and make the jump to "we need to turn this into a persistent setting, with a review process to ensure cannon is maintained and servers constantly hosting really slow paced sneaky death match maps!" ... or something like that ... but i think its important to bear in mind that there are two projects running at the same time here: the tool set its self and a thief based mod that the broken glass team build using the tool set. having a map of the town would be cool, but it should be something that builds its self from a void as people make maps haphazardly instead of a contrived setting. ... as i sit here a thought pops into my head to contradict the tone of what i just posted: instead of a set map I think it would be more proficient to establish districts and then paint tile sets for each one. like the docks district has stone tile textures that have mold and barnacles growing between the cracks, or the slums use lots of rotten wood textures while the wealthy has lots of clean looking brick and stone textures. so instead of having "this mission takes place in a bar thats between "X" and "Y" streets" missions could be sorted by what district it takes place in and would share the same textures as other missions from that district. just an aesthetic idea that would probably take more work than it would be functionally worth ... BUT IT WOULD BE COOL!
  3. the amount of sound per movement speed is a bit off but that doesn't bug me too much, its the sensation that I'm running in slow-mo when i hit the shift key. i don't know, if it were up to me I'd jack up the run speed to full out sprint then have a script that sets off alert status of every NPC on the map every time someone hits the run key so that running isn't "I'm bored with this and want it to go faster" but "oh shit! I'm gonna die and have nothing to loose." ... but its not up to me and have a hard time even spelling the word "script". don't take my bitching too seriously, my super power is to never be content with anything, this mod rocks and you guys should have been paid full time for how good it is!
  4. i hate to start a new topic about this, as its kinda petty, but i couldn't find it anywhere. (yes i searched in more than one rephrasing.) the movement speeds are immersion breaking for me and i want to change them. creep is good, but i feel that walking should have a bit more glide to it and running feels like I'm trying to run in waist deep water with clown shoes on while banging a tambourine over my head. if its gonna produce that much noise while running i expect to be moving at more than a "brisk trot". i know its not that big of a deal so I'm not whining for a patch just because because i don't like it, i just wanna know if there is a command line variable i could tweak to personal preference? p.s. now that i think about it I'm kinda surprised that the fatigue bar from Doom3 isn't implemented for running, climbing, and lifting things. (i.e. when you pick up a item the fatigue bar drops at a rate variable to the mass of the box, or if you spend too long hanging on a rope or a vine ladder you will get tired and fall off.) but you guys are fucking pro! so you probably have your reasons for not implementing it.
  5. lol good to know I'm not the only one running off a single core amd chip windows XP SP2 amd 3400+ ati 2600 2gigz ram latest hot fix drivers for the 2600 ( i doubt my exact driver version as important as the fact i run off the hit fix ones, yippee for AGP. )
  6. i keep getting bad files from " www.fidcal.com". the updater is catching them and replacing them with files from other servers, so its not that bad of an issue, but i figured you guys might wanna know .....

  9. it wasn't that bad, pain wise, did however make this disgusting crater in my shoulder that looked like the inside of an oyster and didn't heal for almost a month. thanks a lot uncle Sam for that one and about half a dozen other experimental meds you made me take. ( prick )

  11. lol wow! here i was thinking i was gonna be necroing a dead thread to comment on this ... i found a pretty good solution for most of my random crashes and what not ( other games as well as TDM ) don't install the catalyst control center .... my HD2600 works fine with just the drivers installed. i tried experimenting with this as i couldn't get a couple of oldies but goodies ( when patched ) to run longer than 5-10 min before crashing. what i believe is that its a conflict with the CCC settings and the in game setting for stuff like AA and texture filtering. ccc works wonders for things like mmos and low budget games without in game options for those settings, but with higher level stuff that has the options it seems to start a bitch fight between what the CCC wants and what the game is set to. most games seem to be built off of Nvidia cards and then checked for compatibility with the ATI stuff but i can really see QA not worrying about hunting for conflicts between the hard coded FX settings and ATI's external "tweak" program. i was gonna throw out that I could be a "special" case as my card is a non-standard AGP model, but you guys got other models so its probably not that.

  15. ehh, but that still dosent mean i like it. F3 just isnt a fallout game to me, hell it made me think more of bioshock than oblivion but thats neither here nor there. its like how metroid prime just "felt" like a metroid game but then prime 2 lost it, or how i can load up ST lucia and go "WOW this is thief!" but despite having the full license behind it Thief 3 just didnt have that feel.
  16. well thats part of the problem, i don't think highly at ALL of bethsedia! ( refer back to how i previously spelled there name ) i was a long time fan of TES and felt betrayed by what they did with Oblivion and so i didn't really have high hopes for F3 ... i wasn't surprised with the end result. but I'm also the type of person who has really, realllllly tried to like Bioware's products and i just cant stand them, same old cookie cutter crap each and every time. the only thing thats different from baulders gate -> jade empire is the GFX. same complaint with oblivion -> F3 same game only now you shoot flashy spells instead of cast them and the castles are made of steel textures VS stone textures. Doom 4 and Rage will undoubtedly go out the door with Id flare but i will fully expect Doom 5 to start out with the main character in jail and a high profile film actor doing the voice over for a NPC who guides you through an initial tutorial and then dies.
  17. i got a soft spot for indi studios. Id has / was the shining pinnacle that you can make video games with out selling out to one of this "big guys". i don't like this because: #1 i don't like bethshitia. #2 i see this as a big blow for indi studios, Id was something of a big brother figure to many of the other smaller studios. how many of those studios would be where they are today if they had to run through a parent company instead of dealing directly with Id? #3 I smell merger in the air between ZeniMax and 2K, especially if 2K gets there hands on 3D Realms IP list. if all that happens we all can flush ( almost ) all hope of getting any original titles for the next few years down the crapper. i almost believed the bit about Id retaining its Independence till i read quotes from carmack about this, I've read interviews with him before and comparing the two: this all sounds like corporate propaganda recited by some one who likes to be gainfully employed. but thats all my opinion .....

    from a game play stand point: yeah it was fun, i just with i could have spent more time with the vampire ... from a story line stand point: oh god, that was total shit! 1/2 of it was ripped from Freespace, and the rest was like rejected plot points of the Wing Commander movie. *shudder* the end result was that the damned non combat stuff kept knocking me out of my gaming "zone" and the game just got to be a chore. regardless of what either one of us thinks of that game, i was more referring to the post about how prophecy's are lame ass ways to advance a plot. ( yeah i meant Eidos, oops. )

    yes .... tho i tend to disagree, prophecies give the players a sense that the world is some what old and that they are part of it. i mean, what about "Wing commander: Prophecy"? that one was a highly successfully re-boot of a quality series! ( heavy sarcasm in all this by the way )
