  1. It really does, one of my favorite elements of the game as it stands. Normally when I speed something up in a video I use the FTL soundtrack but Starbound's stood up on its own. http://youtu.be/hDcHhMamuoM?t=17m28s
  2. Really envy the talent I see here for making building facades that come together to look like a real street.
  3. Sounds like you had fun! I always get really nervous whenever I meet a group of people, as in game-winning flag carrier jitters in any good CTF match. I'm a wuss, I know. As a general rule you want to avoid people. If you hail them and they don't answer they're probably bandits. You used to be able to tell in the mod by their clothing; people transformed depending on who they killed or helped. Bandits wore head scarfs and heroes wore... something else, I forget, bandits having killed a certain number of players and heroes having healed players or killed bandits. Now that you can customize your clothing properly it's more difficult to tell, but an armed group is best to watch from a distance and wait to see what they're doing. It's easy to kill even three guys if you get the element of surprise and a gun in pristine condition. Always aim for the head or the legs! Shooting people in the chest will damage all the stuff in their backpacks and coat pockets, and a gun that isn't pristine is usually worthless. After you play a while you recognise the buildings that have guns. There are military outposts in some corners of the map that always have guns and army clothes in them, and there are school buildings in the cities that will almost always have a Mosin Nagant or an M14 in a small room at the top, looks like this: I tend to play a podcast for the heavy cross-country runs, also way faster if you run with your fists up for some reason. Your gear and location will transfer between public servers, but your gear doesn't carry across private servers unless they're clusters from the same host, in which case they'll carry across any of the servers in that cluster.
  4. The naive are vocal in their turn and the stupid are more so in greater numbers in their dogpiling. If you get piled on by obnoxious circle-jerkers, take comfort in knowing that that's probably 90% of the people against you, whereas the people who agree or can think sensibly will stay quiet to save their breath and sanity.
  5. It's brilliant, really ambient. Shadow of the Colossus was comparably orchestral, but this was mostly wind, wind chimes, birds and waves. It's so atmospheric.
  6. Insert it with image tags and then spoiler tags either side of the lot. It does look cosy, spooky scary skeletons aside.
  7. Sorry, falling asleep here. Is the game using all your processor's power? It just sounds like it's being throttled somewhere or your card's interfering. Might want to turn any overriding features off in your card's control panel.
  8. A screenshot would be handy because that doesn't sound like TDM on high settings at all.
  9. I love it, but it's damn cathartic when I finally close it and the room goes silent.
  10. One for the tombstone. I'm gonna be a complete bambi, I'll maybe make a trip to the airfield or something tonight.
  11. I made tons of progress on mine all day yesterday so I'm pretty burnt out on it for now
  12. Friday is date night, but I'm working (supposedly) from home all this week and the next.
  13. I feel like we should have established a representative TDM gang by now. The Broken Glass Posse, known for sniping off the top of Skyscraper Hill.
  14. Yup, the moment it gets nudged. Still, I haven't messed with anything so I assume it's just an odd coincidence.
  15. http://puu.sh/6M5BS.avi What's up with this? Everything's just vanilla spawned in, not intersecting and not spawned inside the table, but they act weird. Is this just an engine quirk?
  16. Rockstar are in the habit of commissioning pretty great, fitting, unconventional soundtracks. HEALTH for Max Payne 3 and Tangerine Dream for the best in GTA V were both great choices, but not the kind of stuff you hear in most games nowadays; it's usually faux-orchestral stuff we've all heard a million times before in the same scenarios.
  17. No love for the original? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atGcliA-HNw God I love well-done choral music.
  18. Awesome choices but you have to narrow it down, you cheat =P The Diablo 2 wilderness music is still up there for me, maybe because of the hours spent listening to it...
  19. *agree* Around 1:48 in that video reminded me of something from Lost Odyssey, which has another great soundtrack. I wouldn't expect anything less from Nobuo Uematsu though. He's one of the few people in the industry I have genuine respect for as he left Square when he saw the direction their games were going in. If you're a Final Fantasy fan and haven't played Lost Odyssey, you're missing out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YoDuIZa8tE
  20. Isn't Rogue Warrior a contestant for lowest metascore on Steam? Or am I thinking of something else? That music certainly doesn't seem worthy of a bad name. - That creepy, glitchy intro really reminded me of Kashiwa Daisuke. He uses the same kind of sounds as an intro to his music before breaking out into more conventional stuff. They're all really long and strange, but there are diamonds in the artistic, experimental rough: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xT1w6JsBNX4 I still play Unreal Tournament '99 a lot, and with the sfx all the way down and the music all the way up, never gets old, same with Unreal.
  21. Michael McCann seems to be getting a lot of work lately, what with being on-call for Splinter Cell and having worked on the new XCOM. Every soundtrack he touches turns to gold, so the more the merrier. I loved the DE:HR OST, only wished it was more prevalent while wandering around undetected.
  22. This may or may not have been brought up before but I just realised how much faster Dark Radiant sessions seem to go when I'm listening to the FTL soundtrack. I also realised that I listen to video game soundtracks way more than conventional music, which seems to be the case for a lot of my friends. So, what's your favorite? You may have a favorite track that doesn't belong to your favorite OST, in which case post both! My favorite track... I just generally love it, and it's surprisingly recent. I wasn't expecting anything to trump ICO but this soundtrack is a very close second if not joint first, and they're completely different! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BWs9rV4T2I I get a ton of headaches, so I've always listened to a lot of ambient music. I have it in my ears all day every day and it's really calming. I've come to rely on it really, but one of the first great examples I ever found was in the ICO soundtrack. It's dull, and completely featureless compared to most, but it has a special place in my heart as one of the most relaxing yet haunting games I've ever played. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjTq2ao2AR0
  23. You're missing the point. It's a joke in itself, that's why people use it, because it's emblematic of their bastardizing it. It won't be a Thief game that's for sure, but it looks like it'll be a lot of fun. I don't care really, it's not like they're wiping its predecessors off the face of the Earth. The first 2 and a half still exist so there's no reason to tear into this one with quite so much vitriol, but hey, people get protective over some things.
