  1. Well, even though DII had the skill system I liled, there are way too many drawbacks... The saving, for instance. Theb these giant empty fields. And I wasa always annoyed the way barbarian needed mana to bash somebody/ Also there is a horrible system of skill USAGE. you can actually use only one skill at a time. That sucks. My favorite game of the H&S type was always Nox. The only drawback is that it had no exp system. But I usually improved my char in Diablo the same way... Nox only had level ups from time to time, which gave ou certain abilities. Those abilities were placed at a menu at the bottom, about 6 or 7 abilities fit there. They could have been used by pressing key A S D F G H. That was very useful and easy to use, in contrary to diablo where to choose a different skill you had to run from the enemy.

    Well, shame it's not a DooM 3 clone... I thought 70% is OK. I liked SS, both I and II, don't know what they are playing at. It's a game for a lot of dumb shooting fun... To Macsen - I suppose they meant first not ID game. What kind of fan was that? He didn't seem to point anything out. Many weapons? What does it matter if they are the same in every game... His speech sounded like from a crazy person... After such a review I would'n mind keeping away from a game, I hate when people write like that... Will Quake ever come out properly? loudogskank - the kind of language I hate... Please keep that away from Thief... And don't replace E with 3 - why do that? It doesn't even ease writing. Have nothing else to do but turn languages around?
  7. I don't like the way they named it. If DooM is just a name, F. E. A. R. is an abbreviation of First Encounter Assalt Recon, but they made it on purpouse that it sounds like Fear. Showing of, I call it.

    Hmm, PC gamer gave only 70%... The game is developed by Raven, my would-be favorite company (SotSR creators). But their recent games dissapoint me. I hope Quake will have all and more than DooM 3 had. Loads of weapons. There were, ahem, 20 weapons in Turok 2. So many in Quake? Favorite weapon - shotgun - shame. I love shotguns, but I would also wish to see something less instant. A plasma rifle in Quake IV, anyone? Well, I don't think F. E. A. R. has a lot of AI. Scripts, rather. Storyline, eh? I don't think a game like Quake will have a storyline ever... Or F. E. A. R. Since when moss arrow is a weapon? I though it was a device. I never managed to kill anyone with it. I didn't find Quake II enemies strong... 10/10 - last time I saw this with Half-Life 2... To Macsen - I think I'll like TDM more than Quake IV. I never was a fan of Quake anyway. Besides, Quake is just a shooter for fun, Thief is more complicated...
  9. to bob actor - LET THEM MAKE THE GAME!!!!!!! You know why games become worse and worse today? You have any idea, at least? The people require graphics, graphics, graphics, but they also want it fast fast. What comes in the end? A company does a game with great graphics, it does the game in 1-1 and a half year, but the game has zero gameplay and consists of 3 levels. I personaly have some hopes for this mod, and, like they said, I wouldn't mind if they done it for 6 years. Have patience, and the game will be great, speed up them, all you have is graphics...

If all it does is just not require dosbox - I played old doom without dosbox. They do work, dosbox is just more reliable, but really, if you like the game, is it so hard to download doomsday... Whatever, as you wish, maybe you are tied to dos grafics...
  11. What do you mean? What has dosbox to do with anything? There is DooMsday for DooM, dosbox is for warcraft and other. I just asked what did they do in that collectors edition? They improved the graphics or what?

    It's noy internet that's the problem. But games. My UT says code invalid. My AoE Conquerors asks CD when it's already inside. MY Quake III has no CD-key. Heretic II area empty. heXen area empty. The only thing I played online is Diablo, but I got bored because a game lasts no longer than half-an-hour.
  13. Crabs are those monsters. I don't mind limited weapon system, but when it's done right! Those weapons are mostly the same, and pistol and knife should be in a separate area! Or then I have 2 slots taken pernamently by rifle and launcher, so in SMG I have only Uzi and M16.
  14. FarCry got on my nerves with the save system and 4 weapons. At the beginning it was OK, but after crabs showed up i dropped it...
  15. Hmmm... Download DooM1 demo, go in dosbox, and load the magical file setup.exe... Or maybe just to go setup.exe without dosbox. Why on earth would someone buy doom collectors edition? It has new levels, ideas, graphics? Here, a screen of heretic setup - doom is the same, and on the screen I set strafe to A and D
  16. Well, for me DooM looks better... I just don't like broken down walls an other, the game is too brown somewhat, no bright colors...

    I'm on second level of TDP and you want me to get T2 and fan missions for it!? Let me finish something first. To Oddity - that's not exactly what I meant. In Morrowind there is only 3 types of weapons - melee, ranged, and magic. So is Gothic. A slasher is a game centered on melee and only raw melee. GOthic is close, and morrowind turns into one if you play fighter. There are no magical effects on weapons themselves. In heXen there is Timons axe, which summons some energy on impact at close range. After the power of the weapon depletes, the axe is just an axe. Maybe you can go to a shop and recharge it - if it'll be RPG. Another thing - hammer of retribution - it's thrown, and then explodes, and a hexen II axe starts rocking around walls. And a ranged - heretic ethereal crossbow weapon was made from doom shotgun, but seems to be quite different. It shoots three arrows, one powerful, two less, and they fly somewhere. It creates interesting effects because they fly off quite randomly. And enemies - heXen had centaurs who block with their shield, so if you shoot at them at the wrogn moment, it will backfire. Upgraded centaurs even shot from shields. Stalkers swam in swamps, they were invincible in it - but if you come near, they jump out when you are least expecting them - and then it's the question of reaction. You hit them, or they hit you and dive in swamp to wait for a better possibility. Wendigos shoot blue stars that break in 10 which fly at deifferent directions from impact. Iron liches summoned small short-lasting tornados... Well, heXen has dozens of ideas to be implemented, but for that I have to give you a designdoc of this heXen world RPG idea, which I sure don't think you want to read... Yep, I love Giants. Please stop talking about multiplayer - I never played it, and I actually want to, so reminding me that I can't play s not very good. A question about modding - I got myself a ZBrush 2 thing, heXen EoC use them - is that thing any use? It looks like texture and model creator or something. Can I make 3D-models there and put them in some game?
  18. Funny I clearly remember playing DooM 1 and putting strafe on A D, and look up-down on W S. It's much more simple. Why on Earth press a different button? What if you want to go right and turn at the same time? I remember playing cyclones, but there was no possibility to change keys, I dropped it at once...

I certanly won't care what engine the game uses as long as it's drawn good, and I personaly put the line between bad graphics and good graphics on Quake III and Heretic II - everithing higher is great to me, everything lower is bad, and DooM III is way ahead - a lot of people say HL2 looks better, but I can't agree with that. If the game is colorful, with DooM III shadows and bamp and stuff it would terrific quality. You say game looks bad because of new engines higher than it. If we take old games doom, heretic, war2, heroes1 - they are painful to look at. THe graphics is pixelated and stuff. Thief, Q3, Heretic II are not painful to look at at all, but they look worse than todays engines. Personaly, the farcry and d3 don't look too different to me. They are on the same level. And just because q4 will have a slightly better shadow won't make me thing the games is outdated. If a game can last only as long as it's engine is the best, it's not a game. Just some rubbish to play a while and throw into the trash can a month later. I'm glad you chose d3e. It's a great engine, and outdated or not, the game will look GREAT.

    What RPG's do you know that have puzzles? Well, if we take NWN, fighting is zero there, if we take Diablo, DS, Allods, Morrowind - chance-to-hit. That's not proper fighting. If we take Gothic, only regular sword/bow, slasher, not action. Fable - same thing. BoD, Rune - all slashers. And I'm talking about action.
  21. It is often you find something like that in magazines. Sometimes people just don't know about the existence of many games, because they are not AAA type. If the magazine writes - Thief, who will know what is thief? But if they write SC, everybody will by happy. I never played it thoug.... What is it like? Any close to thief?

    Well, heXen was based action, had some RPG, had some puzzle elements, and it was OK. I think if the RPG system would have been improved to TES style, puzzles of myst/siberia level, I don't think it would be a catastrophe. Only a game mix must have a base, and I prefer action base. So, like in the planned Oblivion, you have action/RPG game. Add heXen ideas - Abyss creatures, wraithwerges, quartz flasks, heXen world, in other words, and we get a Oblivion/Puzle mix. Why not? Why isn't it possible? I'm not saying - rapidly! Just slow advance. First heXen was almost out of RPG. HeXen II already had health increasing over time. I don't think that gradual mixes are impossible.
  23. Fans are very protective of their games. I don't think you would have reacted well if I called Thief a Splinter Cell clone!

    Save points should always be there, if a person can't live without saves it's his business.
