  1. While I agree Bank Heist DLC was nowhere near the size of the Bank mission in TMA. The reason many people like it is because it was the only mission in the game that was most faithful to original titles in terms of structure. There were no loading screens or cutscenes interrupting gameplay, no scripted escape or forced detection sequences and no blocked off points of no return. The mission actually required exploration and had a surprising amount of content. It definitely showed that EM was capable of constructing classic Thief missions and I feel the game would have been far better had the other missions been designed with the same level of quality. Had they also added a better movement system and more comprehensive city hub this game could have easily gotten 9's and 10's while still staying faithful to the original games.
  2. I watched a few livestreams, but they were all being played on easy mode with all the HUD elements enabled and people spamming focus mode and swoop every five seconds. The players had no idea where they were going half the time despite having a waypoint marker and a fucking mini map. I couldn't get a feel for the game with all the stupidity that was taking place, so I just gave up watching.
  3. I pretty much agree with TC. I feel like many people complaining about this reboot tend to ignore or forget about how simplified certain aspects of Deadly Shadows was compared to the first two games although it was still a great game in it's own right. Yes this reboot is even more simplified in some areas and borrows some elements from other games (which is to be expected since there hasn't been a Thief game in ten years) but the basic concept is still the same. It's still a game about stealing, being stealthy, using arrows and avoiding combat with two or more guards. And there are tons of customization options like disabling loot glint that even Deadly Shadows didn't have. I'm not expecting T1/T2 quality. But if the game can do well on it's own right, while still using the basic formula, then I'll enjoy it for what it is. The best thing that can come out of this game is giving the franchise more exposure.
  4. I read preview from a guy who apparently swung and missed a blackjack swing during his playthrough. http://www.edge-onli...nre-originator/ "A guard patrols an upstairs room containing drawers, cabinets and a locked safe stocked with valuables. We attempt to knock him unconscious with our blackjack after sneaking around a cabinet to get behind him, but miss the swing" So it does seem like timing and aiming is still required.
  5. That's part of the reason I'm excited for this reboot. Even if it doesn't turn out as good as it's predecessor, it's bringing the franchise to a new generation and allowing newcomers to experience atleast a glimpse of what makes the series special, so they'll be more willing to try out the previous games and TDM. The best thing that can happen with this reboot is giving the Thief franchise more exposure. Despite other issues people may have, I don't think anyone can complain about that.
  6. There are people that think the Assasins Creed sequels, TLOU and Dishonored qualify as stealth games despite them being action games with stealth elements. Very few modern gamers understand what a true stealth game is. EM is marketing to those people.
  7. He has a point about the marketing though. The original Thief trailers were pretty action packed and contradictory. It's obvious they were trying to target action fans despite the heavy emphasis on stealth and avoiding combat. EM is using the same strategy as LGS.
  8. Seems like we'll be getting some unedited commentary less footage according to one of the mods.
  9. I know it's a different writer. It's just that PC Gamer in general has been incredibly harsh on the game, so it's surprising to see a positive article praising the storyline.
  10. New PC gamer preview that's surprisingly positive for the most part. http://www.pcgamer.c...lesome-shadow/3/. This is the only preview I've read that's mentioned anything positive about the writing and characters. And it's coming from PC Gamer of all places.
  11. Not sure if this has been posted yet, but I found some gameplay footage without commentary.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qy_zwFr9Occ
  12. I've noticed that most of the positive reception seems to be coming from the PC version. While mixed reactions are coming from consoles. Obviously the game looks ridiculously better on PC than PS4 judging from the other footage, but perhaps there were other factors like the AI and sound design that were more fine tuned.
  13. If there's no demo released then I'll just rent the PS3 version at Redbox, if the final reviews are this inconsistent.
  14. Thief definitely seems like a game that's going to be mixed for both fans and newcomers. On one hand, I hear previews saying the AI is bad and others that say it's competent. Some articles are saying the level design is small with very little options while others say the levels are big with multiple paths to a destination. Some newcomers like the grounded stealth aspect of this game while others bash it for not having the same level of choices as Dishonored. It's ridiculous. The only consistent things I've heard is that combat is still challenging and the writing is subpar. At this point I think EM should release a playable demo so we can all form our own opinions on these aspects.
  15. Press previews are supposed to come out today. But I haven't heard anything yet.
  16. Yeah. I heard that several journalists got to spend a lot of time with the final build. It'll be interesting to hear what fans and newcomers have to say about the finished product.
  17. I wasn't aware there was a Thief 4 discussion here. Anyway, that OXM article was from a demo released to the press back in October during NYCC. For some reason the guy who wrote it, decided to release it today. I wouldn't necessarily call it balanced and honest either because the guy wrote two articles on the exact same demo.(One more positive than the other) All of the recent previews have been from the "lockdown mission" and the ones from the final build will be released on Friday.
