  1. Hmm... the newest source from SVN does not find GL, even though the previous source I got built fine. ./configure give this: checking for main in -lGL... no configure: error: GL library not found.
  2. I found a solution which works for me, though it is weird. I reduced the default grid size from 8 to 2. I then created a new brush and made it 2x2x2. I right-clicked on it and created the player start there. I then dragged the brush to a place within the floor near the corner of the room and placed a model nearby so I'd have no ability to walk there anyway. I then deselected all and right-clicked where in the room I actually want my player to start and chose to move the player start to that point. Worked like a charm. The brush assigned to player start is hidden out of the way and "beneath the floorboards", so to speak... so no texture-less cube is visible and it does not impede my movement. I just realized something which would explain a lot. After DR 1.2 was released, I downloaded the source and built it. I just checked the 'about' info and lo-and-behold... my DR is version 1.1.1 Damnit, I had had downloaded the wrong source.
  3. Allow me to clarify... The tutorial says this: Press Esc to DEselect everything. In the TOP grid view, point the mouse in the middle of the room and RMB to get a pop up menu. This menu is important so glance at some of the other items on it while you're here. 'Entities' are special function items and the player start is amongst them but there is a shortcut on the menu so instead...Select "Create Player Start here" on the menu. This will create the playerstart entity (red box) and put it where you clicked. Drag the entity around to the point where you want the player to start. After creating my room and texturing the walls, floor and ceiling and creating a light... I press ESC to make sure that nothing is selected. I then right-click the grid within the area of my room and choose "Create Player Start here". An error pops up saying that no brush is selected. That's it. That's why I tried creating a brush and applying a player start to it. That works, but obviously adds an unnecessary brush in my map.
  4. I was following the Dark Radiant tutorial to learn some basics and got to the part of creating a player start point. The problem with that is I get an error saying no brush is selected. If I first select the floor and then create a start point, then the start point is stuck in the floor and if I try to move it above the floor then the floor moves with it. If I try to create a new brush, put the start point in it, and drag the brush into my room, my player ends up stuck on top of an un-textured block. What's the secret? Edit: I created a new brush and made it 1 unit cubed (with grid size 8), put my start point in there, and placed it in the room. My first attempt gave me a solid, untextured cube, which I could step off of but not walk past. My second attempt was to lower that brush to the level of the floor. That gave me an untextured square on the floor which I still could not step past. Otherwise I could move around my little tutorial room just fine.
  5. Those guys outside the pub were one of my favorite parts of the mission.
  6. In my case I never had a single crash. For each mission I did one quicksave and one named save at the very start of the mission, followed by a second named save later into the mission. I quicksaved the rest of the time, and often. But I always kept the first named save untouched, right at the mission start so I could restart it any time without having to go through the the intro or difficulty choice.
  7. I tried doing that, but both the guards and zombies came after me only, they didn't turn on each other at all..
  8. SVN = "Subversion", a software developer's tool which provides a means for programmers to distribute software code which is still under development. In the open source software community, it is often used by beta testers and developers to receive the latest version of the software to be compiled and tested. Often, open source software has both stable (release version) and SVN (alpha/beta) versions of code available.
  9. I dare someone to combine all 3 of these missions into one huge mega-mission with the objectives progressing as you go. One giant map where you could go through the sewers into the cathedral, then through the city and then out through the woods (and all the way back again if you wanted to).
  10. I dmap'd mission 3 and got rid of the AAS32 error. The mission played perfectly. I finished it in 1:17, but was missing about 300 a lot of loot. I'll have to go back in to all 3 missions and find the remaining loot and optional objectives. I left 3 or 4 guards outside the front door alone. I had no crashes with any of the missions and they played very smoothly with high details at 1440x900 on a GeForce 8800GTS (nvidia 195.36.15, High quality with 4xFSAA & 4xAniso + Texture Sharpening), Athlon Phenom 9650 w/ 4 Gig 800MHz RAM. Mandriva Linux 2010.1 beta (Cooker) OS, X.Org server 1.7.6.902 (10706902). uname -a Linux mjollnir 2.6.33.2-server-3mnb #1 SMP Thu Apr 22 21:49:26 UTC 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux A note about mission 2: Don't mantle the table where Kutty is sitting or you'll get stuck there. Also, how many holy water arrows does it take to kill a zombie? I never found out, but there was one which I hit w/ 3 holy water arrows and he was still coming at me. In original Thief it took 1 if they were not aware of you and 2 if they were.
  11. It looks like I'm going to have to dmap mission 3. I got the AAS32 out of date error when the mission loaded. I didn't play it very far and am not sure what was affected... I saw guys patrolling like normal. Just wondering if fellow Linux users get the AAS32 error when loading mission 3.
  12. When I unpacked the missions into the fms directory and first went to play them, I only had missions 2 and 3 available. When I looked to see why I found that mission 1's directory ("Politics") was capitalized and so was the .pk4 file inside it, while missions 2 and 3 were all lowercase. Linux file systems are case sensitive while Windows systems are not. So in Windows, if you have the directory "C:\WINDOWS" then it is impossible to create another directory spelled "windows" in the root of C:\ no matter what combinations of uppercase and lowercase letters you try. In a Linux system, you can have say... "/home/username/.doom3/darkmod/Politics" exist alongside "/home/username/.doom3/darkmod/politics" and "/home/username/.doom3/darkmod/POLITICS" and "/home/username/.doom3/darkmod/PoLiTiCs", etc. etc. All of those will be seen as independent directories, unrelated to each other. To make things easy for all users, FM authors should just keep everything lowercase. Then all systems will find the files they need without issues.
  13. I was too close to the table/Kutty when I was trying to drop the stash... was not expecting a box like that Also, I found the way into the Citywatch finally. Finished it with only missing 100 loot. Optional Objectives:
  14. I tried both dropping and using... dropping did nothing at all. I'll try again.
  15. A couple issues with Mission #2 1. Here are a couple stuck guards. When I started the mission, I heard one of them open the door downstairs once. When I got outside, they were just doing this:
  16. 1hour 54 minutes for Mission #1... I missed 90 loot so I'll have to look some more. Bravo! That was beautiful!
  17. I am: ... and my palms are sweaty. This is really starting to remind me of Thief (1), big time.
  18. Ok, had to take a moment before I really get started on the first mission. First off, I love the intro... especially how it sweeps in to the player start position. Sweet! Not sure if this counts as a spoiler yet... If that's supposed to be there just say so, but don't spoil what it is... I'll find out if that's the case.
  19. *Linux Users: check this out* After unzipping the missions, you must rename the directory "Politics" to "politics" (change that uppercase P), and do the same to the "Politics.pk4" file so it is all lowercase. Otherwise the first mission will be missing from the list. Now I can get started.
  20. Umm... my missions list has "NHAT Mission 2/3" and "NHAT Mission 3/3", where is the first one?
  21. Downloaded... time to play. Goodbye World, I'll be away for awhile, lol.
  22. LOL "7 User(s) are reading this topic" Vultures, we are.
  23. Heh.... maybe for release dates it would be helpful to mention what time zone the author is in. It's only 2:30PM where I am, so it's still fairly early in the day for me.
  24. That is strange rendering. Was the gamma turned up? Here is how mine looks:
