  1. My old HP Pavilion Slimline isn't doing so well, and it's reached the point where I'm seriously considering getting a new computer. However, I'm not really sure where to start. I'd like a powerful gaming PC that runs Windows 7 (possibly with a Linux dual-boot on the side), and I've talked with one or two people about building a custom one (it should be said, I've never done this before). However, I've also had someone tell me that custom-built computers are clunky, and it's better to buy one ready out of the box. Since I know many of the folks here are far more tech-savvy than I am, I was wondering if anyone had any advice?

  4. @Bikerdude There is no specular currently (I wasn't sure how to make one). In real life, the tiles are a bit glossy though, so it may be worth adding one at some point. For anyone who'd like it, here's a zip containing all the files: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8xVqpVdwvaRTVg1X0ZvN0hDTDA/view?usp=sharing The .mtr may need tweaking, depending on your folder structure.

  7. Well, after playing this mission and then spending some time ruminating on it, I thought I'd go ahead and share a review? First time doing this, so here goes nothing... Overall, wonderfully done, and thanks for the mission! Also, here's a challenge, for anyone who wants one:
  8. I'm not one of the folks who voted, but I've been trying to work on a small mission nonetheless. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to release in time due to gross ineptitude the fact I'm still learning DR, coupled with my IRL workload. I don't even know if this map will ever come to fruition at all, but I thought I'd share a sample anyway. Everything's still at a fairly basic stage, so none of the rooms are really finalized yet. If anyone wants to help a newbie out, I'm open to suggestions!

  10. Hi all, Having a bit of difficulty with "atdm:readable_immobile_sign_small01". I know I'm supposed to add "gui_parm1" to it, but I can' find this spawnarg listed. Is it present in Darkradiant 2.0.1?

  13. My diffuse map is a .dds, my editor image is a .jpg, and my normal map is a .tga. All three are located in: [my darkmod directory]/textures/darkmod/custom Do I need a special folder for the .dds?
  14. When I try to dmap a test mission with my custom texture, I get WARNING: Couldn't load image: textures/darkmod/custom/aosys_carpet1_large I can see the texture in DarkRadiant. In-game, it's behaving like a carpet texture, but with no image, just blackness. I have my .mtr file set up, as well as the diffuse map, the normal map, and the editor image (since it's a carpet texture I don't have a specular map). I feel like I'm missing something obvious here, but I can't for the life of me put my finger on it...
  15. Good news: I finally got it working by installing the 32-bit version instead of the 64-bit version. :/ Now I feel dumb...
  16. Hi all, I recently tried dabbling a bit in custom textures, and I've been attempting to get the Nvidia Photoshop plugin for normal maps. However, after downloading and installing, it's still not appearing under the Filter menu, though I can see the 8BF file in the Plug-Ins folder. I am using Photoshop CS3 Extended on a 64-bit Windows 7 computer. Any ideas on how I might get this to work?

    So I was browsing around on DeviantArt, and I found this rather nice-looking font: http://www.deviantart.com/art/Free-fantasy-font-LSW-Drachenklaue-548816202 The best part is that it appears to be completely free, and available for use on anything (commercial or otherwise), no permissions needed. Think this could be useable for TDM?
  18. Thanks a bunch for the advice, guys! I tinkered a bit with it, and as it is now the frame rate still drops a bit when I look at the lattice, but it's not nearly as bad as before (I found keeping CSG Subtract to a minimum has helped dramatically). Setting it to noshadows may also have made a difference. Dragofer, I tried what you suggested with brush thickness and found that some of the lattice ended up disappearing in-game. Dunno what's up with that.
  19. One thing I'm noticing is I get a lot of "WARNING: backwards triangle in input!" when I dmap. Could that be part of the issue?
  20. Hi all, I'm having a bit of an issue with performance right now. I'm attempting to make what I hope will eventually become an elevator cab, and one of the things I'm trying to do is include some diagonal latticework. I'm fairly happy with what I've managed to create, though unfortunately it tanks my frame rate in-game. I've already tried caulking all hidden faces and converting the lattice brushes to func_static, which seems to have helped slightly (?), but I still get a fair amount of lag. Is there any way I could improve the performance without taking it out completely?

  23. Hi all, Just upgraded to TDM 2.03, and now the texture "blocks_sepia_grey" no longer displays correctly in my WIP (it just appears black in-game). When trying to dmap, I get "WARNING: Couldn't load image: textures/darkmod/stone/brick/blocks_sepia_grey_d". Any ideas on what I can do to fix this?
