  1. Not yet. At the moment only Saint Lucia is being converted to 1.0 compatibility. Here's a link.
  2. There have been instances where a response to something was "it's based off of Thief 1/2" in a sense of "lets leave it at that." Which is why I brought it up. As for stopping, I suppose I implied that I thought that TDM was. EDIT: I listed the additions, which I forgot to add something along the lines of not stopping. But flat out, TDM is f***ing amazing. I should put in my signature "Posts may not make sense due to lack of sleep." :-) It's a little chaotic in this skull.
  3. Would it be cool with the mod team if I packaged this up and put a link here to download the wallpaper, ringtone, and texttone?
  4. There are a few threads regarding the footfalls. There was one recently that went into quite a bit of depth. I'll see if I can't dig up the link for you.
  5. I've been reading around, trying to soak up all of the posts I can before I ask questions or comment on anything and I've noticed something that revolves around the "mod inspired by Thief" aspect. The community is guilty of this but what bothers me more so is the fact that the developing team is as well. Inconsistency in terms of "this isn't Thief" and "making Thief Deadly Shadows the game people thought it would be" and "bring back/based the Thief 1/2 experience." It's discouraging and utterly confusing. One moment the team will say "That's low priority as it's based on Thief" and the next moment another member would say "this isn't Thief." But the team is working with improved gaming technology. I understand that some things are just left out due to manpower and time constraints. But this mod has every bit of opportunity to improve the classic Thief 1 & 2 experience. It's been done with a graphic engine, item manipulation, mantling, rope swinging (very cool, by the way) etc. Why stop there? I suppose it's not really a severe issue, and I'm an over analyzing insomniac with way too much time on his hands, but might I propose a stickied mod "FAQ-ish" post? Something that lists going-ons, FMs, features, etc and why a feature is modified/implemented/abandoned/etc, and what not? I'd even be willing to pitch in with that. EDIT: For the record I'll be gone until Nov 8th starting in a few hours. It's significance being that in-case anyone attempts to contact me regarding the Forum FAQ proposal.
  6. Just a possible "gripe-kill", but try using mantle more than jump. I really enjoy the specific mantle keybind ability in this mod. It makes missed mantles-turned-jumps less likely to happen. EDIT: I just reread your post and the mantle doesn't work well for the distance jump. That's killed me quite a few times.
  7. is really happy that TDM exists to be happy about.

  8. It'd probably be pretty cumbersome to climb a latter wearing a heavy suit of metal. That and your sword & scabbard getting tangled in your legs and crossbars.
  9. So, I got bored. Made a wallpaper for my phone. My ringtone is now a 20 second clip of the start menu music (amb_nocturne_menu.ogg) and the text alert sound is frob_loot.ogg (the sound effect from looting a valuable item).
  10. As much as I dislike snow in real life, it appeals to me significantly in gaming (I always enjoyed dod_volturno in Day of Defeat). Looks great.
  11. It is a bit soothing knowing why it's absent. Thank you for the details.
  12. TheDarkMod is not thief, only inspired by it. Sometimes I have to even remind myself in that regard. TheDarkMod team made an excellent total conversion. The more I play it, the more I'm comfortable with the footfall sounds which I originally was less-than-neutral on. The FMs thus far are very well made and for the most part, I feel like I'm there. Credit is due to the team and to the mappers for that. When I come across something as great as this, I feel almost guilty pointing out stuff I'd modify. You guys put a lot of work into this and I only have the talent and know how ... well, I don't have any talent and know how to contribute much of anything. But there's one thing that I personally feel would significantly increase the player immersion in TheDarkMod. I noticed that there aren't any player shadows. If I happen across a reflective surface (as unlikely as it would be) would I see the nameless thief I was playing? When light hits me and I turn around in the opposing direction to flee its incriminating presence, my thief does not have a shadow. That's when I'm reminded "Dude, you're playing a video game." Which is unfortunate to my playing experience. This mod has a lot of power in it's immersion as one has to be completely aware of his/her surroundings. Once I noticed this it stood out. As I've said; TDM is a great experience. I'd feel pretty good if all that a pessimistic person had to complain about my mod was the above. Great job.
  13. SYSTEM OS: Windows 7 Ultimate CPU: AMD X2 3800+ RAM: 3GB PC3200 Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 9800GTX Driver version: 191.07 GAME Resolution: 1440x900 V-Sync: Off AA: x2 TA: x4 Bloom: On Ambient rendering: Standard Interaction Shader: High Quality Noticable FPS drop on rare occasions but nothing that affects gameplay significantly enough as to where I'd lower my settings.
  14. [insert hassling for 1.0 compatibility here]
  15. I would also like to add my contribution of thanks here as well. Great work.
  16. Everything loaded fine. I'm a bit surprised as I've been having odd luck with Windows 7 lately. It's a lot more difficult than I expected. I haven't come close to completing any of the missions yet but I like a good challenge. After reading through some of the other posts here the only issues I have with it (though, give me a week to let the fact that this isn't Deadly Shadows sink in) are those that others have mentioned. Those being: The footfalls seem forced/loud. Still getting used to the "Frobbing" & Controls. They seem a little stiff. No 3rd person (I used this a lot, along with the wall hug) Ambiance (Grandfather clocks don't tick?) I found it really easy to get immersed into the world. I really like the fact that it's a challenge. I'm tired of hand-holding games. I tend to get sucked into games I really like and their communities. I played Day of Defeat since the first public beta (0.9b I believe?). I stopped playing shortly after Source. A few Neverwinter Nights Persistant World servers and Classic DooM (3) I only bring this up because I've seen things go in several directions. Day of Defeat was it's best at beta 3.1 before Valve bought it. Some features were taken out (namely bleeding/bandaging which I thought significantly added to strategy and gameplay). I've seen changes made to things that I originally hated and ended up loving and vice versa. Blah blah blah blah blah. All in all, I'd have to say that this is one of the most promising projects I've seen come along. Not only in a long while but in my gaming experience as a whole.
  17. // Thread hi-jack as it may be, this is appreciated greatly.
  18. Thank you. So far, the installation (and documentation) of doing so has been flawless and without difficulty. Time to load it up.
  19. Hello, The Dark Mod community. I've been following this project for quite some time. I've played DooM since the Shareware release and I've only dove into stealth games since Thief 3: Deadly Shadows. Though, when playing tactical FPS, I'm usually the guy running around with a silenced weapon and smoke grenades. In 'D&D' and clones I'm always a stealth class. Due to a nice dump of real life events I have now found myself with nothing but time and TDM is installing as I'm typing this. I'll be around, potentially until everyone in the community moves on.
