See this: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/19162-beta-testing-206/?p=422116 and the following posts, for the fix. In short: You'll have to deactivate Anti-Aliasing in TDM, and use FXAA in the Nvidia driver.

I'm playing Dishonored 2 ATM, after a year or so that it dwelled in my Steam account, because i thought it would bring my PC to meltdown… turned out that it's working quite OK, on low settings, and adaptive quality settings. Great game, i'm really enjoying it! Rather a spiritual Deus Ex successor for me (like Dishonored 1 already), than a Thief successor, even though, obviously, the style is vastly different. Still, it has much of the stuff which made Deus Ex a great game as well. Even more so in part 2.

I didn't… glad to hear that though, and my condolences for your losses. Some great pictures there, with some nice inspirational architecture.
-
I noticed that as well. @MayheM: I take it that you tried the 64-bit executable? If not, definitely try that. It increased the framerate here.
-
Ugh… at last i know why the characters in those games always look so deformed.
-
Thanks for taking the time. Regarding your questions: Nvidia driver: 397.93 Windows 10 version: 1803 Build 17134.48 Nvidia threaded optimizations: Auto As i mentioned, using the 64-bit executables obviously improves the framerate. I will try some more missions (is the Crucible of Omens Prologue a good benchmark? You mentioned it, so, i figure it's quite a demanding mission), and see if the framerate is stable now. Looked pretty good now in the training mission.
-
Ah... didn't notice the other tab. Thanks for that.
-
I don't know if it shows in the darkmod.cfg, but, i deactivated ingame AA, and i don't use FXAA in the driver either, because it would also use it in other games where AA works then.

I didn't even think of that… i just tried the 64-bit Darkmod.exe, and, i don't have nearly as much lagging and stuttering as with the 32-bit version indeed. E.g., in the training mission, in the jumping and climbing training room, i got bad stuttering, when i entered the first area through the hole in the wall. With the 64-bit version, i don't get any stuttering. Only when i move, it slightly stutters the whole time, which is a bit weird. Here's the link to my system again: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/9970-post-your-system-configuration-here/?p=342668 And here's my current darkmod.cfg: BTW, is the 64-bit version new with this update? I wasn't aware there is a 64-bit executable.

I must admit that i'm a bit disappointed with this update. I appreciate your guys work, but... no matter what settings i use, the performance is worse than with any other version before (uncapping FPS helps, but... still lags like mad in some places, think places with a lot of light sources). The multicore option does nothing at all here really. And there's some obvious issues, which will confuse new players as well, like the issues when you turn on anti-aliasing i described in the other thread. Wished i could revert back to 2.05, TBH.

I thought about doing a poll. But... i couldn't nearly cover all games people could consider their favorite game of all times. Dishonored was great too.

Just thought i'd start one of those fancy survey thingie. Mine would be Deus Ex, for sure. Never played anything like it anymore. Really pretty perfect in all regards. Followed by Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition with all addons, System Shock 2, and the Thief's. Also, every GTA part since part 3 has been pretty great.

Thanks nbohr1more, that fixed the underwater issue.
-
Hmm... so, if i get it right, i can use any of the workarounds listed? Also, where and how do i "set r_useFBO 1"?
-
I had it on 8x first, but, i lowered it to 4x. Or, do you mean in the Nvidia driver settings?

Just updated with the tdm_updater. The update worked fine. I started the Training Mission then, and activated soft shadows, and the multicore option, but then realized that the soft shadows have quite a severe performance impact. I tried to lower some settings then, anti-aliasing level and anisotropy, which led to a white screen, when i went back in the mission. I restarted TDM then, and reloaded the quicksave i made with the white screen, but, the white screen didn't show up again. Instead, i had a weird bug when i took a dive: If it is not apparent: The screen somehow got divided in 4 parts, when i went under water. When i emerged again, the picture was fine again, but, every time i went under water, it divided the screen into 4 parts again, with one part in the lower left showing the actual game picture, while the others seemed to show fragments of the screen before i went under water. Also, the multicore option didn't seem to have an effect here, or, at least not apparently. I didn't think soft shadows were so CPU taxing, a bit disappointed that it really cuts into the framerate here. I don't have the newest computer, i posted the specs here: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/9970-post-your-system-configuration-here/?p=342668 Still thought it'd be good enough to run with soft shadows.

Wow, that looks great indeed.
-
That reminds me of the TDS mission with the Abysmal Gale. Nice.
-
Yeah, the pictures are a bit small, even on the site which opens. What's the difference between the current shadows and soft shadows? Higher resolution, and smoother edges on soft shadows? Looks quite smoother on the pics, but, can't compare to how it is now.

And people claim that there are so many more bugs in games nowadays.

Not exactly medieval, but... i had an idea for a bank mission some time ago, and spotted a suiting building in a Columbo movie, which i have taken screenshots of: Just thought that'd be a very cool and fitting building.

GTA Online felt like a MMORPG to me (yep, including those always repeating tasks), and, i really hate those. Loved the single player though. -

It's an audience thing, i guess. Typical nowadays players get bored when they have to search 10 seconds for something. I guess that's why games like Assassins Creed are so popular. It almost plays itself. -
Thanks. Believe it or not, i never played Unreal. It's not available on Steam somehow, in Germany, so, i had to grab it from GOG.

Nice nice. Actually, i think both the city hub, and the contracts add a LOT to the mission. If Looking Glass Studio still existed, and they'd make a Thief now, i would really hope they make it semi-open world (city hub), and add a lot of side quests/contracts. I'm actually sure they would do, it's something which has become popular in games (one of the good things about games nowadays).
