  1. I would have so hoped they did that with a modern engine... still looking forward to it though.
  2. True. I found it very hard to execute it in time though, especially when you do non-lethal. Actually i was only able to make it after watching a Youtube vid after the 20th try...
  3. Btw, i really hope they won't implement any kind of time pressure in the game like they did in HR, e.g. in the scene you have to rescue Malik, or in the first (tutorial) misson (cardinal error to do it in a tutorial). Worst thing you can do in such a game IMO.
  4. Hm, the driving parts in Rage shouldn't pose a big problem for those who regularly play GTA? Actually GTA (4) has the better driving physics though. The one from Rage are simpler compared. Still a lot of fun though IMO.
  5. Same here. It's important for me to be able to identify with the protagonist, and i could really do so in DE:HR, expecially because he's quite neutral to most things, and rather makes up his mind than make stomach decisions, or be influenced. I think they really did a good job with Jensen.
  6. Looks ok. Hope there's less action and more stealth in the game though, but i'm sure it depends on how you play it. Seems like they have to do a hollywood-esque trailer with loads of boom boom to attract ppl of course. And an east european villain hehe.
  7. Fair enough Airship, tbh, i can't even finally judge that, because i only played like 2/3 of the game and never finished it. What i especially liked about it is that they got the protagonists neutrality right, and the fraction's weren't played out against each other. I mean, you could sense some conspiracy like in the original part, but like in the original, most of it was cloudy, and you never could really be sure until you get more info, and more of the story was revealed. And the story telling with the info pads, and the emails you find on computers, and you got through the tv media i found really nicely tailored. I guess after i nursed my GTA addiction with the new part in the next weeks, i'll give the directors cut of DE:HR a go again, maybe this time i'll get through the end. And +1 for no boss fights. Please Square Enix. Edit: Arf... just googled and saw that Squeare Enix announced that the boss fights should become "Much better". Oh well... hopefully that holds true.
  8. Seriously? I think DE:HR was far ahead of other games in terms of story, and the way it's been told. Just as the original game. At least i haven't played a game which had such a demanding story in the last 10 years or so. Even praised (in that regard) titles like Dishonored can't keep up with it IMO.
  9. There was so much potential in LA Noire. Completely wasted. Sorry for the harsh words, but, the driving physics are really bad compared to GTA, the investigations always play the same, the action sequences don't rock, the city seems lifeless compared. Each to its like, but for me, LA Noire wasn't a good game. Actually i'm surprised that the Metacritic rating is 83. Would have thought it would be more like 70.
  10. What is quality for you? Quality in terms of gameplay? Graphics, stability, bugfreeness? Rage is actually one of the most stable and bug free games i ever played. The graphics engine is pretty solid too, same for the gameplay. If i compare it to TDM, no offense, then it pretty much doesn't hold the comparison. What a wonder because it's comparing peaches and apples. TDM doesn't support multicore, it has engine related restrictions which the newer engine featured in Rage doesn't have, it does have more bugs, the graphics in general are not as good. Gameplay you can pretty much argue about it, but again, it's peaches and apples, why compare a stealth based sneak game based in the middle age with a shooter based on a futuristic end time scenario. So it really pretty much bows down to what you define as "quality".
  11. Does it have to be new? With Chronicles of Riddick - Assault on Dark Athena you basically get 2 great games, with nice atmosphere, still good graphics, and a lot of sneaking. Really some of my absolute favorite games ever, especially Escape from Butcher Bay. Oh, i see now you got Rage... well it's pretty cool too. Classic shooter though, a bit dowdy by now IMO. But good fun.

    Thief 4

What i mean is that there is surely some businessman somewhere in the chain. A game like Minecraft needs a website, it needs a large server compound, it needs marketing, there's games reviewing it which affects sales, and and and. All stuff where there are businessmen involved. No matter if the game itself seems like an indie game or not. Not to talk about distribution over platforms like Steam. Ok, if we're talking about the production of the game itself, or the independence of the developer(s) from a publisher, or someone trying to steer the game in some direction, the term "indie" game would be appropriate, but there are many external people and things involved usually i guess.

    Thief 4

Well, going by that definition, Kingdom Come is definitely not an indie game. And most of the games Morat mentioned probably aren't either.

    Thief 4

What exactly is the definition of an indie game? I mean, stuff like Kingdom Come could also be seen as an indie game, yet the crowd funding, and funding behind the game is huge, and comparable with big game studios production. And there's 70 developers developing the game, maybe more by now.

    Thief 4

Wonder why that reboot sh** have to be anyway. If they plan to do a game with different people working on it which is different, they should just name it different, and do their own thing, instead of using the "Thief" franchise to create money with people expecting that it has anything to do with the original games. Yes, it has something to do with the original games, but so does Dishonored (Deux Ex and Thief), yet it's a different game with a different setting and different gameplay. So why not just make a different title? I guess they are shy of marketing expenses, and the effort to create a new game identity/brand. So they rather pick a name which people know and which already creates an identity. And that alone shows the complete lack of ideas or creativity (or rather the intention to make money rather than being creative. And of course that leads to mediocre games.) Well a bit more ranting than i planned to in my own thread which was supposed to be less of a rant. But can't help it...
  16. Yep, definitely. Not everyone is blessed to do commentary. But dunno, watching a Let's Play without commentary even, i keep wondering why i don't play myself. Of course, each to its like, and if you decide to do no commentary, because you feel like doing videos without it, perfectly fine. To me, when watching a Let's Play, i expect to hear the commentary's impressions, and experience with the game. Especially when it goes along with my impressions of the game i feel like "yeah, he/she is exactly on point there". But, as you say, there are a lot of Let's Player who try to fill gaps with useless and pointless babble, or try to make the Let's Play exciting, while the comments aren't at all exciting or interesting. Of they're just complete jerks. Still, there's some cool Let's Players outside, mostly people who passed 30 already.
  17. Did you consider making a voice over for the Let's Plays? Tbh, i prefer Let's Plays with voice over.
  18. I know the problems of creating outdoor environments, but i'd really love to see some pagan forest missions stuff. Those always had a unique atmosphere in the original Thief's. There is a mission in TDM which starts out in a similar environment. Can't really remember now which one it was, Alberics Curse maybe?
  19. Fair enough, i didn't know who to approach, so i PM'd him. He changed my nickname, i said thank you and didn't get a reply on that either. Surely there would be have been a time for a "No problem." or something like that. Anyway, Firefox comes with a user agent switch, but it doesn't work here for some reason. With any other Android browser i tried, i get the mobile layout of the forum. There's something weird with Firefox's user agent reporting.
  20. Oh well, problem solved because i switched back to Chrome on Android anyway. Wonder who's responsible for the site and forum though? I once sent 2 PM's to Springheel to get my nickname changed, because i thought he might be responsible for the forums. Never even bothered to reply to them. The nickname was changed but huh? Maybe a reply would have been possible?
  21. Well, as far as i read, Deus Ex was quite exceptional in the meaning that basically, the dev's weren't at all under time, or budget pressure, and could just do "their thing". Which should be why it's such a great game, because if you can do what you like to do, and have all freedom in development, and you're talented, the outcome is pretty sure to be good. I think pretty much any other project has got to live with the compromises you talked about. Especially nowadays where financing a game project isn't an easy task really as it seems... that's why we see all those more or less sure to be a financial success stuff with only half heart and half creativity put in it. I see many parallels with hollywood flicks where the lack of ideas is even more obvious. Still, there are some pearls nowadays like Dishonored, and some more commercialls successful stuff like Elder Scrolls and GTA, where every part is sure to be a success, and the devs probably can work under less pressure to be succesful.
  22. The setting? Just asking out of interest, not because i'm up for a discussion or anything, each to its like. Admittedly, the setting was pretty freaky, but i loved it after a while. ^^
  23. Admittedly i haven't been on TTLG for a while, but the way it used to be, quite a few people there weren't ok with anything except Thief 1 & 2. And in the case of Thief 2 even with exceptions, as it featured a lot of stuff, like the setting, which seemed to differ too much to what those people felt was a decent "Thief experience". What i never will understood about that kind of "cult" thing is why every slight change will break something for these people. Especially considering there's a lot about the original Thief games which seems very dated nowadays... and what stuff like TDM does a holy lot better. But again, it's different, so... That said IMO, Thief 1 & 2 have a unique atmosphere which even TDM can hardly capture. Neither can TDS, but like TDM, it's nice in its own right.
