A Google search, an affinity for stealth games that run on Linux, and a tendency to play thief class characters in the days of PnP AD&D way too long ago. Thus while I was between games, I was quite pleased to find something that recreates the play and immersion of the Thief series.

I cannot make a recommendation for you, but you might register and ask in the Arch Linux forums. I've been an Arch user for 7 or 8 years, but everything I've used has been either nVidia or Intel graphics. There is a fairly large ATI user base with a pair of stickied threads dedicated to ATI users. They might be able to advise you there.
