Does anyone else here play DarkMod with a GTX 980?
cavador_8 replied to cavador_8's topic in The Dark Mod
Yes! This is exactly what I am talking about. So it does happen to other people besides me. I've never overclocked before. I guess I might have to. -

Lazy? No way! I think what the developers of TDM have accomplished with this mod is absolutely AMAZING! Being a Thief 2 player for over 12 years I can tell you that I GREATLY appreciate what has been done with TDM. The new Thief 4 is AWFUL. The DarkMod is Thief 4 to me. It's everything Thief 4 should have been. I greatly appreciate what has been done with this mod. I just can't figure out this rain thing on a GTX 980. -

I didn't mean it that way. Geez you guys are sensitive. I just find it strange that I am having fps issues with rain in this game on a GTX 980 and that no one else has ever experienced this at all. Just me. -

I sent a post with my specs. Those were pretty easy to read. I don't have Skype. I've never used Skype before. It seems like the DarkMod is not optimized properly for newer video cards. -

What does that do? -
Yeah, rain seems to be a factor. This is crazy to think that I need an older video card to play some of these missions. I'll just have to stick to the missions that don't have rain.

I tried with threaded optimization off and I got even worse fps. Try this, play the FM Noble House (the accountant). Follow the guy through the underground sewer and then climb the ladder to the street level. I get 60 fps until I get to that street in the rain then it drops to the 30s fps. Only in the street corners of that map does it return to 60 fps. The same thing happens in another FM called Siege Shop. Play that one and go through the tunnel until you reach an open field in the rain. I'm at 60 fps until I reach that field and then it drops down into the 30s again. I even tried these two FMs on a completely different pc with an Nvidia GTX 660 with different drivers and this STILL happens. Why does this only happen to me? -
I am experiencing a very strange issue with some of the fan missions. I will come across certain spots, usually with rain, where my fps drop from 60 down to the 30s and 40s. I have 8 GB of RAM and a INTEL I7-4770K 3.5 GHZ processor. I have tried both the 344.65 and 344.75 drivers and that doesn't make a difference. I use FXAA but I even tried these fan missions with no AA and no vynsc and the same thing happens. This is not what I expected from a GTX 980 but I have no issues like this in any of my other games. Most DarkMod fan missions play just fine (60fps) vsync, but some others where it is raining, I get a fps drop in those areas. Am I really the only one that this is happening to?
-
Am I really the only person here on this forum with this issue? I just tried another mission called "Siege Shop". I'm at 60 fps all the way until I reach an outside field in the rain. Then my fps drop to the 40s. In Noble Home, when I get on that first street in the rain I am in the 30 fps range until I get in the outside corners of that street then I am back up in the 60s. Needless to say, this is not what I expected from the GTX 980. I tried the new 344.75 drivers and there is no difference. I even tried playing Noble Home with no AA at all and no v-sync and it still hits the 30fps range in that area. I don't have this issue with any of my other games. I even tried the Noble House and Siege Shop FMs on a completely different pc with a Nvidia GTX 660 and different drivers and this STILL happens.

I'm new to the Darkmod so I played through, just quick run throughs exploring most of the mission areas, to get a feel for as many missions as I could this weekend. I explored through about 60 missions in 5 days. The only missions that I experienced this slo-mo thing was in these three: 1. Noble Home (street area in the rain) 2. Penny Dreadfull 2: All The Way Up (street spot) 3. In Rememberance of Him (graveyard small spot) Two of these missions are from Bikerdude. I wonder if he could shed some light on this issue for me.

I am using the 344.65 drivers. I've got 8GB RAM and an INTEL I7-4770K 3.5 GHZ processor. I played through several FMs this weekend and I only encountered this slow spot thing in a few missions, one being this one. Which drivers should I try? Do you think the 344.48 drivers would fix this issue?

It must have been something I accidentally deleted. I don't think it had anything to do with Builder's Influence. I reinstalled Builder's Influence and everything is working again. I was using a free shredder with a right click function that was deleting files that I didn't tell it to delete. That might have messed up something.

All missions. I had to totally reinstall TDM to get free look working again.

Fan Mission: The Builder's Influence (2010/03/20)

deleted my post -
I have NEVER had this sort of problem before with any game. The Dark Mod was working just fine until I installed a fan mission called "Builder's Influence". Then my mouse could no longer do free look. My side to side (turning) did not work at all. Why would this happen? I am leary now to install any other fan mission.
-
Why is this happening to me? I don't see anyone else with this issue. After i come up from the sewers and enter the street level in the rain, the center street area here goes into complete slo-mo. All the guards in this area and my character start moving in slow-mo. It returns to normal in the corners of this area but that center street is complete slo-mo. It's unplayable. I've got a GTX 980 and plenty of RAM so that couldn't be it. It's not like a fps kind of thing, it just feels like everything goes into slow-mo just in that area.

Is there any way to alter the Dark Mod CFG to disable headbob?
cavador_8 replied to cavador_8's topic in TDM Tech Support
Thanks for the binding idea AluminumHaste! I was also able to add another VERY important line to my autocommands.cfg file. seta com_fixedtic "1" This makes the Darkmod run SMOOTH. I am completely new to the Darkmod but a LONG time Thief 2 player (since 2002). I was noticing a slight stuttering movement out of my peripheral in the Darkmod, like when moving along a wall you could see the wall kind of slightly jerking towards you (nothing major). I thought that maybe it was something with the Doom 3 engine so I searched solutions to that micro stutter. With that one line, the slight stutter movement is gone. I just press F11 to execute my autocommands.cfg and with these four lines I have the Darkmod running as smooth as Thief 2. seta pm_bobroll "0" seta pm_bobpitch "0" seta pm_bobup "0" seta com_fixedtic "1" I've now got a lot of Darkmod fan missions to go through... -

Oh yeah, one more question. I did use a capital letter in my install. I used C:\games\DarkMod Should I change the directory name to C:\games\darkmod and then run the update again? The update just updates files right? It doesn't download the whole thing again, right? That took me about 3 hours to download on Monday. -

Cool, thanks. I will give that bind a try tonight. Thanks for your help! -

cavador_8 replied to cavador_8's topic in TDM Tech Support
Ok, so it's the autocommands.cfg and not the autoexec.cfg? I was reading some posts that said that the commands carry into the game menu but when the actual game loads it wipes them all away? Were you able to actually start a game with no headbobbing? What do you mean by no spaces in the darkmod path? -
Is there any way to alter the Dark Mod CFG to disable headbob?
cavador_8 replied to cavador_8's topic in TDM Tech Support
I downloaded the most recent version of Dark Mod on Monday night, November 24th. That was the first time that I have ever downloaded the Dark Mod and there was no autocommands.cfg nor an autoexec.cfg in there at all. Wouldn't this be version 2.02? Why would there be no autocommands.cfg or autoexec.cfg in my DarkMod folder? Are you saying that if I create an autoexec.cfg and put my seta pm lines in there about headbobbing that it will work? As a side note, I wish I could find the guy who first came up with headbobbing in a game and kick him square in the nuts! -
Did this ever get resolved?

cavador_8 replied to cavador_8's topic in TDM Tech Support
Ok, I created my own autocommands.cfg file because there was not one in the Dark Mod folder. I added my lines and it doesn't work. Still bobbing away. Is there no permanent solution to the headbobbing? -
I tried adding these lines to the end of the Dark Mod cfg: seta pm_bobroll "0" seta pm_bobpitch "0" seta pm_bobup "0" Then I saved the cfg. Then I start the Dark Mod and it completely erases the lines I added and keeps on headbobbing in the game. I know about the console commands to disable headbob but I want a permanant way to disable it. The Doom 3 engine should be able to have these lines added to the cfg. Why does the Dark Mod keep erasing them? Headbob makes me ill...
