  1. Hey, has anyone thought about this? Prevailing noise levels: If you walk near a loud machine that's whirring away (the closer you get to it's radius), or if you are out in the rain, the enemy's detection of your noise level lowers. I think that would make things more realistic. EDIT: DAMN somebody has beat me to it i had this though a couple of weeks ago. 'Knew I should have said it at the time...
  2. Actually I've played rose cottage (which i think was for thief 1 perhaps) That was a great mission. EDIT: well I started playing thief 2x today, and I got as far as the third mission briefing and it froze while loading the third mission. I know it's off topic but does anyone know what might be causing this?
  3. I must be the only person on the forum who doesn't know about thief 2x... I'll have to play it some time Might try some of those other fms too.
  4. Hello! every so often I come across a level that's especially fun to play because of certain common elements. I'm curious as what kinda of different environment formulas thrill individuals and why. I usually enjoy train levels. I guess it's because of the fact that you're fighting/exploring/performing life threatening feats on a moving vehicle. I also have a soft spot for background scenery, and it's always interesting to see how they pull of a scenery loop in the background. Off the top of my head I can think of 4 that i quite enjoyed -Blood: the third level -Broken sword: train in Britain (not an fps but still amusing ) -No one lives forever: you guessed it (edit: train level, didn't want to be too inconspicuous) -Unreal 2004: (the one where your on a land train in the desert boarding a bigger vehicle) not your conventional train but still cool Doesn't have to necessarily be theif related, but if you want to go ahead.
  5. I know this has already been discussed comprehensively, but this imediatly brought to mind how this represents everything that could end your game... it's like walking into a tavern full of city guards and asking for map direction to the nearest bank so you can loot it. If you aren't sharp enough even to ask on a forum where people actively pirate warez, then you really should just be buying the games.
  6. I play video games to relax unwind and have fun, and part of my relaxing process is nailing someone in the skull with an arrow. Since it's not that simple in this game, i at least want to knock them out. Call me old fasioned, but i couldn't think of much more stress releiving ways than violently stopping the movement of every moving thing. That's why i wish you could step on rats, that would be neat
  7. Yeah, I'm probably gonna be turning to photoshop for that kinda thing anyway, for obvious reasons... I need to learn how to use mudbox anyway, because that's what they use in most colleges i have my eye around these parts. Cheers! EDIT: Today I played around with a trial version of mudbox 2011, and this is what i think. It seems to have a friendly interface and manipulating the model is fairly intuitive. Only problem I'm having is no auto-save which is strange for an autodesk product... I just lost 2 hours of work which didn't really bother me that much because i was mainly just testing it to see how well it would let me make a head, and as far as I know I had pressed the little save button thing down the bottom right. The thing that really annoys me is now I can't work out whether I can make this thing autosave, or perhaps where my work went!
  8. But from what I've read, mudbox has less capabilities for painting and texturing sculptures, is that true? I dunno, i found zbrush to be pretty cool, after about 3-4 days use, i came up with this a year an a bit ago http://sim-mo.deviantart.com/art/My-first-Zbrush-attempt-115245398?q=gallery%3ASIM-MO%2F4812013&qo=24 I liked it. I still respect sculptris, It's pretty cool for freeware, I might end up using it to cut costs.
  9. Uhh... I played zork: grand inquisitor, does that make you feel better?
  10. I like the updater, it gives me peace of mind that I'm not downloading the same files I already have.
  11. I'm getting it now! thanks Irenices! EDIT: hey, just played around with it for a couple of hours, sculpting a head. To be honest, I'd rather shell out the cash for zbrush, which to me feels more intuitive and gives you better control over subdivision levels. I did however like the vertex reducing tool
  12. Thanks for the fan mod When I played it, my game only froze once when i tried to quick save. Other than that and a couple of graphical glitches, nice job EDIT: oh whoops, didn't know there was an update to fix the save/load problem
  13. haha! I love the way he uses him like an instrument and sam just goes with it :'D The part where you have to climb into a giant fibre glass fish to be scooped up by the fish catching net in the copter, and then to be dumped onto of the giant ball of twine was an interesting sequence
  14. I second that. Except for the crack crunch, that might be hard to implement?
  15. uhh.. I'm not the only one who's played sam and max hit the road am I? Think day of the testicle or perhaps monkey island but with puzzles 30 times as obscure.
  16. Personally, I couldn't begin to imagine playing the darkmod with a joystick controller Maybe your not as unco' as i am I may be wrong, in which case correct me please, but isn't the level of alertness brought on by when the frequency of the sound emitted by certain materials you walk on? In that case, can't the fan mod makers decide that as well?
  17. No problem, i was just taking a stab having run out of ideas But with the hammer, maybe not so much? if you use it like it's a weapon, perhaps it could be used for just repelling evil, rather than fighting it, so you have to have it out for it to work. It could also have a charge too... There's any number of things that can be done to balance it out. Yeah. But hitting things with a sword in this mod is the last thing I want to do, unless I have more control at some point :/
  18. I have an idea. What if we break the rules just this once and do something that wasn't in theif. We're dealing with a more modernised game engine, and wer'e heading towards realism (yeah i know, zombies aren't realism lol....but...), and zombies are slow, and zombies are made of decaying flesh, and naked. So why not make the body parts detachable, so that you you can hack them up when you attack at the joints to stop them moving. (much like in dead space.) I this might be difficult to achieve, but think of the reward! Or else, introduce some kinda other thing like, i dunno, a hammerite hammer that prevents the un-dead from entering your personal space, but i really don't like the idea of being left without defence I've run out of holy water or fire arrows.
  19. Oh, Modeling and texturing is no problem, my skills in that area are intermediate, but the only thing that concerns me is rigging and animating, but I guess the animating part is covered in my course Also, i don't suppose you know what the deal is with the heads, aren't the interchangeable? maybe i can save time by modeling the heads and re-skinning the rest. At least 20% of the assets are going to be my work. Most of that will be textures though, I can do them in my sleep, but there must be some animation to prove i learnt something in my course .
  20. Hey, For my course I'll need to make some animated/modelled objects for a level or in this case a fan mission. If I wanted to model and texture something from scratch, In my case a creepy voodoo guard brought to life through black magic, would much be involved to do with rigging? and if I wanted a couple of extra animations, would that be a difficult thing to accomplish in the space of a few weeks? Just so you know, I'll need to do that some time in September or October.
  21. Does anyone remember how in thief a guard would simply acknowledge a change in the scenery if he walked past it? Sometimes if you changed something near a guards route like a door or light or something, they'd walk past and say something like 'that wasn't like that a minute ago...' without stopping, but perhaps looking at that thing as they walk past. As for me, there are 2 things that bother me. -The zombies seem to twist a little to far when they swing if you stand near them. I do think it's clever how the swinging adjusts to match the animation of the zombie though. To see what I mean, check the attachment. -I still think the players foot steps are a little too loud. Sorry guys but I compared the slow walking to my brisk walking and even I sounded more quiet, which is saying something because I consider myself clumsy. Or If not for more quit sounding footsteps, perhaps faster movement? One of the biggest problems about running into a guard is they are just as fast as you. Even though they are heavily armoured, big oafs and carrying a weapon (like a massive hammer) I feel like if you can't have the advantage of strength or even fighting technique, maybe since you're dressed in leather and other such light material you really should be able to run faster. It'd also really make running around on large maps like the lord dufford mission a lot more pleasant. Lastly, walking bristly up behind a guard like in thief would be great, but sometimes you need do a lot of following before you catch up, and of course running is out of the question.
  22. nup, you still need to disable all but one of them, but I don't really consider it much of a problem. I just load the disk, open the program, ctrl-alt-delete select affinity and go back and play, to me it feels like the same nature as loading the disk is and it doesn't really bother me. As for windows 7 in general, I guess you guys aren't liking it, but after a friend went through quickly and changed a couple of settings (minor changes) it works fine for me. I'm not really playing around with things like VM, but it does everything I need, and I consider myself testing the system for all it's worth with some of my projects...
  23. no problem, I have 2 and a half years to be known that bachelors degree will take 2 years, and in that time I'm going to try and blow your socks off with 3d modelling and concept art Hope you'll have time to play the fan missions EDIT: (sits and watches the screen)
  24. ... yeah, I personally know the guy who tried to do this, and EA threatened to take him to court over it after he was issued a cease an desist order. Now he's working on a RTS with one of the former members of the team That's all I'm allowed to say about it I think.
