  1. The Thief Universe is the single point of reference we are all familiar with, so it's only natural to refer to it in conversation. If you can imagine it there, you can imagine it in a Dark Mod universe. I used it to help try to drive my point home, since it wouldn't have the same impact or meaning if I said, "Imagine this hammer/gear in The Dark Mod!" Oh, forget it, why am I bothering. For any lawyers that may lurk in our internal forums and who may potentially whistle-blow us, I would like to take the time to clarify that any mention of "Thief Universe" is meant to be "Thief-like Universe." The Dark Mod aims to be a dark and moody stealth game inspired by the Thief series by Looking Glass Studios. It is not Thief and will not be Thief.
  2. That's awful, RE: Joey Dunlop. At least he was doing what he loved to do... Do you know all the US sport stars and follow US sports (football american, baseball, basketball), and actually enjoy watching or reading about them? I'm genuinely curious. If not, you can see how easy it is to be incestuos with sports. You remain focused on what your own country participates in. Historically, it hasn't really been that easy for the US to have international gameplay (whereas you have quick access to all the European nations and more) so I think it's only natural the states compete against each other in sporting events here. And even though it might be easier to fly all around the world now, Europe is still like 8 hours ahead of us in time; so it's still not the most feasible thing. Since world soccer doesn't seem very pervasive here, and F-1 racing doesn't like us, and football/basketball/baseball are our primary 3 sport (takes us all the way around the year), etc., it's not exactly easy to get into all the sports going on around the world. Although I enjoy watching F-1 and soccer.
  3. I think it is a given that once you own a motorcycle, speed limits are irrelevant and cars are just fun pylons to weave in and out of. A motorcycle rider actually doing the speed limit is an oxymoron.
  4. What's above a top floor? A roof. It's not too far out of the realm of possibility that a thief would be on the roof, right? Not sure if that's what was intended, but that's my interpretation anyways and a good explanation to make it *not* absurd. Thief used heavy metal. Although I didn't really care for this approach in Thief, it's kinda grown on me a little. I still prefer non-metal.
  5. Point being? ... as if everything we've seen created in The Dark Mod (or ever will be created) is so far different than the Thief universe? :|
  6. I watched that movie. It was interesting. I tend to agree with demagogue that Moore sometimes puts an exaggerated view on things so can be hard to trust. After watching the movie, I was led to believe the Canadian news only talked about blue sky and roses. Yet I turn on their news through cable TV and the horrible things that happened during the day are talked about just as prominently there. It's been a while since I saw the movie, but if media-driven fear is given as the reason why the murder rate is so high, that doesn't make sense to me. How did he make the connection? If people are fearful, then they would own guns, yes. But fear doesn't make people go out and kill others. Seems like fear would lead to paranoia (close & lock doors) rather than give someone a reason to go out and kill. I have to watch the movie again, I guess. I think demagogue was trying to say that the US is doing the "morally right thing" by having so much population diversity. Demagogue, is that what you were referring to?
  7. I know, you would hate it Sorry...
  8. Heh. Not when set to the Thief universe with a deep, powerful grinding stone sound set to it, and when set outside of a cathedral rather than a local mall. With this, I get the feeling that if you had been helping out with Thief back in the day, you would've looked at a model of a zombie and comment on how it looks like it should be in a Michael Jackson music video (Thriller), not Thief. Of how a holy water potion should be in Damien, not Thief. Or how a big stone hammer looks like a trade-show prop. Just because the gear would rotate, it's all the sudden a Disney spectacle? hehe
  9. The gears at the base of the library bookshelves in the test mansion map rotate around. Would this be different? I assume so.... bummer. I wasn't proposing a rotating gear would all the sudden make it functional. It would still be ornamenal. LOL. Okay I was just saying it might be cool to rotate the gear around; I don't care if it gets implemented here or not. I'm just trying to defend the feasibility of how 'possible' it is or should be; not that I necessarily want anyone here to waste time trying to make it happen. A slow rotating gear inside a large hammer would look nice outside a Hammer cathedral, imo. squabble studios
  10. Well, as the model exists now it would obviously be impossible. Spaces would need to be carved out of the hammer to accommodate the gears. The hammer would need to be slightly bigger, to maintain its strength integrity; the gears a bit shorter (not as protruding); or any combination thereof.
  11. That's looks great. It'd be cool to have a version of the symbol where the gear actually rotates around inside the hammer; as if there is an axis going through the top of the hammer. PS: I was just kidding about making a wooden version in memory of displaced pagans Although... an interesting twist for a FM story could be that the Pagans are actually starting to integrate Hammer life into their culture more and more; as if the Hammer's cultural sphere of influence is expanding and/or the Pagans start to have an interest in trying to figure out how to make Hammer-like things.
  12. Do you know if there's a way to 'view full screen' on iFilm?
  13. I would like one made of wood, symbolic of nature and age -- and in memory of the pagans that were displaced to create the cathedral...
  14. Wow! That's awesome! A Tron fireplace!!
  15. LOL. Any biblical reference in that picture -- or any other reference for that matter -- is purely accidental. No thought went into it at all, except: "Hey! Let's create some interesting artwork with the messed up ropes here!"
  16. Interesting take on that, Dom. Thanks for always being artistically observant ~ Much appreciated (really)
  17. I hate hornets, too. I knocked one to our brick patio once and stepped on it, but evidently didn't do a very good job because 5 minutes later, it had risen again and was preparing to fly away! It was stunned at its ability to survive what surely would've killed any normal insect. I've seen hornets surprise other people, too, in much the same way.
  18. Sorry gang, I really cheated on this one. Pretty much just traced a photo, colored it and faded it into the background, so I feel bad. But I hope it helps: Click here for the source photo
  19. Ahh, yes... Layout is the way! Good luck! Yeah, it's almost time for an upgrade there, unfortunately. I used to have a BFG GeForce FX 5700 Ultra 128MB card that was pretty good for a while, and then I learned the FX series sucked with DirectX 9 stuff (I was only getting 2 or 3 FPS in 'ES IV: Oblivion' so I had to upgrade. I got an overclocked GeForce 6800 GS 256MB card as a fairly inexpensive replacement to hold me over until next year when I start looking into upgrading for Windows Vista and DirectX 10. The 6800 has done pretty good for me so far, and made certain things in Lightwave a bit quicker, but I still can't crank things up to full on most games. I just tried the MS Flight Simulator X demo last night and my PC did fairly well, but comparing my computer's screenshots to what Microsoft has put out, I see there is a lot of room for improvement
  20. After you hit "d" in Layout (not Modeler), you see a pop-up that has two tabs (General Options and Display Options), right? Under Display Options you should see the OpenGL option. That's weird if you don't. The only thing I could think (and I'm no expert) is that maybe your video card doesn't use/support OpenGL, but instead uses Direct3D or something? I dunno, I'm purely speculating here. That doesn't seem right, though, as I thought video cards could do most everything nowadays. What video card do you use? Maybe posting this will help experts better diagnose the issue you're having... Also --> OpenGL on Wiki Sorry to hear about the troubles/frustrations...
  21. I guess I'm in the middle right now and need to get to the final stages... Oblivion wasn't a 'but at full price' game. I got suckered into doing so, but the game is not any better than Prey, imo.
  22. You're a little behind the times there, SneaksieDave! The game has been out for about a month I think. I got it when it came out and played quite a bit for a few days, and then haven't really gone back to it since. Haven't beat it yet. It was an interesting game, for sure. I just wish there wasn't a delay between playing the demo and actually getting the game. It lost some of the pzazz in my mind for some reason because of that delay. So when I played the actual real game, it wasn't as exciting and new for me. Hard to explain. I'll go back to beat it some day, and I still think it's a pretty cool game... but I've just had other things taking my time and haven't felt a strong pull to play it again recently. I think there was a Prey thread here a month ago...
  23. Hmm, interesting. Maybe I will try it, then. I'm not looking for a magical, multi-player frag fest, which is what the gameplay videos I saw last night made it look like. As long as the game has a focus on single-player and it is a nice campaign adventure, then I will try it. Otherwise, I'm not really interested...
