  1. Wonderful advice! I'm building a city section. No actual plans of what the mission shall be about right now, just plain building of a middle class street, and when some idea pops up, I'll implement it. My inspiration to build is like a feather in the wind; I have to grab it when it flows by, or else I won't even start mapping...
  2. When you build, do you search the net for inspiration on architecture and design? Or do you have a lot of knowledge on how to implement your ideas/design into the mission. What I feel is lacking in my own missions is the feel of "Wow, this looks just like it could if this were a real world". I have taken inspiration from your map and now I will painstakingly detail my world in absurdum! When it gets released it may not be a huge mission but damn is it gonna be detailed...! How do you go about when you map?
  3. In your mapfolder, delete the collision file (MAPNAME.cm) and redo a DMAP
  4. Alt+shift+box is good to automatically deselect anything you may have selected and you need to catch several objects...I use it a lot when moving vertexes on patches around

  6. Hi! It was some time I did som work in DR and it seems like I cannot select things using the Alt+Shift + draw-a-box-around way anymore. Is this a bug in my version (2.0.2 64bit)? I see that Greebo is not currently as involved in the bug fixes. I hope you're all well and collects energy for future projects

  11. Yeah, you got that IRL thing that mess upp your life with real things I've bogged down with my mission but will persevere and it will be released so don't worry. But not in time for any halloween contest...At the moment I'm just building without a fleshed out story. And I will probably add some of my trademark stamp-of-death; interfering with gameplay...Not too much but I have an idea that must be tried
  12. As I said, it will be a horror map but no promises on a map released for any contest. I'm just to picky to be comfortable with a speed build. But the exterior is almost finished

  14. I've started building on a mission. Contest entry or not, it's gonna be a horror map!
  15. I vote for No interfering with the players play style. It feels like the Thief games was made quite hard to begin with and then as the fandom went stronger, players started putting up self imposed challenges like no saving and utterly ghosting missions to the point where you leave keys and other stuff where they where when you took them. This is and should always be player controlled! Now when we have a functional mod, we get discussions about trying to put these challenges hard coded into the missions?? The difficulty settings should only affect amount of loot/equipment, no/limited KO/killing, mandatory objectives, extra AI etc... Couldn't we just put the amounts of save games used in the summary at mission finish? If you feel like it, you can brag because all the stuff you have achieved, but don't force others to try to accomplish the same!
  16. I've just begun working on a mission based on that hotel. But as I'm aiming to get it released in time for halloween I don't think a collaborative work is possible atm... BTW, how do mappers do, practically when working on maps with others. Do you set an interval of time when one person can work and then send the most recent map so the other can work, or do you work on completely separate sections of the mission so you don't "collide" with the same rooms?
  17. The amount of detail that needs to be rationalized away in a daytime mission is so big so it's very difficult to create something useful. Especially if you plan on creating huge outdoor scenes...A dull, flat ground is ugly to look at and it becomes even more noticeable when playing in full light. You can save on performance by using a specially created lightmap with individually painted shadows as I did in Reap as you sow. I used HUGE lights and this means the shadows will be stretched and will loose some detail; the shadows got blocky and not as crisp as the real time shadows created by the engine. My mission also looked quite washed out, but that could probably be adjusted. Then you have the issues with the gameplay. TDM is painfully accurate regarding the AI noticing the player if seen fully illuminated, you don't get any leeway. It's like it should be in real life and therefore not so good for a game. The mission won't probably be playable without save scumming But if one keeps the mission mostly indoor with only long "spots" of light coming from the windows and keeping a fair amout of dark areas, it should be playable. But that takes away a bit of the purpose with an daylight mission so perhaps you should have a few stretches of land outdoor to cover...

  22. Nice with a horror themed mission...Should be fun to make a mission so terrifying that people almost couldn't complete it Well, maybe after summer...
  23. I've backed out from TDM for the time being. Too busy with theatre and other stuff but when I find some time, I'll check out these alleged errors... The missing face seems to be related to old skins or something. IIRC a lot of the AI and corpses are supposed to be decapitated and this was achieved by creating a custom skin with nodraw for the head...
