  1. All right, thank you for explaining this. I totally forgot that "physical appearance" paragraph.
  2. Is it? The wiki says that the architectural style is "ranging from medieval castles to victorian mansions" but maybe the lore has evolved into something more Tudorish. Speaking of which, is there an official lore thread? I would love to read more about Bridgeport.
  3. I almost feel like I just rushed through the level just by listening to these ! Sound design and musical themes - I agree it's a bit adventurous to call them like that - seem to be more closely linked in the Thief games than in TDM. The crickets are clearly sound design while the other tracks like "m01drone" are a bit more "musical". It would be very interesting to work in that way, with very short, very zoned intricate sounds...This method could be of use in closed environments while a more musical approach would work perfectly on an open-air level like in T2's "shipping..." or like in the T3 hub. I'm not saying that it would be the best thing for TDM but it's worth trying.
  4. Aw yasss ! If not done with a 360 degree camera, it could be achieved with a regular one and photogrammetry . And countless night of painful mesh cleaning and retopology.
  5. Excellent website, have you seen the Chateau Japonais? Thanks for the eye candy. http://www.bcd-urbex.com/chateau-des-chasseurs-france/
  6. Now that is how to properly advertise a movie ! It is the next Guillermo del Toro's movie, the Crimson peak, but it could be entitled Victorian overdose. I could totally see such kind of assets within the dark mod.
  7. These models are looking so clean. I particularly like the worn metal effect on the compressor.
  8. Saving yourself some trouble in the following missions by searching for more loot could indeed be great for immersion !
  9. It might be unpolished, with clunky controls (I did not figure how to catch a ledge without climbing it until five or six hours of playthrough) but I liked the game a lot, mainly because it's a slow paced one. Probably the best stealth title of 2014.
  10. I'm looking forward to see how the track evolve then. Keep up the good work !
  11. Your piece is quite good. Do you think it needs to be expanded? I'd say that once looped it could already be usable. I'd put some (more?) reverb on the flute thing since it feels a bit "digital" and the overall mix could use more bass but it is a matter of personal taste. About loops, all is clearly explained here :
  12. You're very welcome Jaxa. About tips, well, it depends on what are your softwares and your overall knowledge of computer music. Are you starting from scratch or do have a bit of experience? I came across a tutorial from Kyyrla on the forums which is a good starting point as it involves free resources. It doesn't cover VST use though. -> the cool Kyyrla tutorial : http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/16718-how-to-composing-ambient-tracks-for-dummies/ Since I mainly use VSTs I'm considering making a little tutorial when I have more free time this fall. In the meantime, if you have specific questions I'd be happy to answer them.
  13. @Dragofer : How cool! I'm happy you liked the tunes. Thank you a lot for both the soundshaders and the template. Du Marteau's tracks are pretty good. Are some bits very reminiscent of the Thief sounds or is it a standard thing in dark ambient? I'm pretty new to the genre. @c0mputer-fr0d : I'm afraid he is pretty busy working with Harmonix
  14. On the first two Thief games, you just had the same store than in TDM which is a menu before the level. I imagine that it could be possible to make an ingame store, but it rather looks like you're speaking about a city hub like in TDS or the latest game...
  15. Having optional subtitles would be something good for the mod. It could increase the number of potential non-English speaking players since creating subtitles is a less demanding process than recording new voices.
  16. Thank you for the video Anderson, let's learn from the master. I planned to take my time to release the sounds but I couldn't resist to finish them in a row. They are OggVorbis/ 44.100 kHz/ 16 bits and looped. Hope it will work finely within the engine. You can donwload them here : http://www.mediafire.com/download/xkshxs3fg1430pb/Gast_TDM_sound.zip If you just want to listen here's a little montage : https://soundcloud.com/gaaast/tdm-audio-preview Have fun, taffers !
  17. I liked how sounds blended without being rhythmically coherent in the original games and wondered how the devs got free from the tempo track while making them. Well, now I see.
  18. Interesting, this way it is maybe easier to create a lot of different atmospheres but is must be a painful process to fill the levels with this many snippets !
  19. Thank you guys. I mainly use Native Instruments Absynth 5 and Massive. The big bassy sound is made with Gladiator. You're right Sotha, I'm currently listening again to some Brosius tunes and they are way longer. I plan to upload the tracks as soon as I have three or four of them so anyone can mess with them. Happy to see that it could fit in the super cryptic project on which you are totally not working right now.
  20. Thank you for your feedback !
  21. Hey there, it's been a while. Here's a little clip of sound design I made with TDM in head. I got into it with the idea of some pagan cavern. It's just a WIP so feel free to say what you think so I can make it better. I'm planning to make more of these, I just need to dig the wiki to export them properly for TDM. https://soundcloud.com/gaaast/gast_pagan_wip Have a good day !

    Thief 4

That's for sure, it's still a festival of glitches and audio aberrations...

    Thief 4

What's funny is that the T4 team waited until one week before the release to display some actual, non commented gameplay on youtube. Before that we only got to see little excerpts of game sections between scripted explosions and dramatic lines. If released a bit earlier, the simple gameplay video of the best levels played in maximum difficulty would have considerably changed the opinion of both the press and the gamers. Even if the game has severe issues, I still enjoy roaming on the city's rooftops - that's the best part of it.
  24. It worked, I will now work through this leaking material problem. Thanks a lot !
