  1. I'm writing this post in the hopes that it will save others my hours self-induced frustration. After downloading and installing TDM (using the updater), I was psyched to whet my thiefy appetite on some fan missions. To that end, I decided to start with the training mission. However, much to my chagrin, when I attempted to install it, TDM barked back at me with the error message: COULD NOT FIND TDMLAUNCHER Thinking I had done something wrong, I started googling my heart out with as many variations of this error message as I could muster, but to no avail. I then started to play with installing the files manually, with limited success. Namely, I could get the training mission to run, but my saves would disappear into what seemed like oblivion (i.e. the game would write the save file to the training_mission\savegames folder, but the save/load list was always empty). So, I finally did what I probably should have done to start with - download the source to see what was going on. From that, I determined which log flags to enable, which resulted in some curious log messages: [.\DarkMod\DarkModGlobals.cpp (1239):INF (MAINMENU) FR: 0] Parent path is c:/program files (x86)/steam/steamapps/common/doom 3/ [.\DarkMod\DarkModGlobals.cpp (1243):INF (MAINMENU) FR: 0] fs_game_base is [.\DarkMod\DarkModGlobals.cpp (1263):INF (MAINMENU) FR: 0] Resulting darkmod path is c:/program files (x86)/steam/steamapps/common/doom 3/darkmod -console As it turns out, I am using the Steam version of Doom 3, which I had actually been playing long before I installed TDM (a long, long time ago). I had totally forgotten about the fact that I had set my launch options to pass the -console argument in Steam (I had already beaten the game and was playing around; no need to start a flame war about cheating). It seems that this caused an issue with TDM, and once I removed it, TDM worked like a charm. So, the lesson here is, make sure your launch options are empty in Steam before running TDM. Otherwise, you'll get no joy. Of course, if you insist on keeping your command line options, I suppose you can always move them to darkmod\dmargs.txt. However, Steam's launch options must still be empty. On a related note, I <3 this mod. Really appreciate the effort the devs and FM authors put into this; everything looks so awesome.
