  2. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2018/03/attverizon-lobbyists-to-aggressively-sue-states-that-enact-net-neutrality/ "Broadband providers have worked hard over the past 20 years to deploy ever more sophisticated, faster and higher-capacity networks, and uphold net neutrality protections for all," USTelecom CEO Jonathan Spalter wrote. "To continue this important work, there is no question we will aggressively challenge state or municipal attempts to fracture the federal regulatory structure that made all this progress possible." I don't think I've ever seen so much bullshit packed into one paragraph.
  3. As a kid, I never even considered smoking. Just never appealed to me then (or now).
  4. Yeah sadly the Classic Shell developer threw in the towel not long ago. It still works, but for how long, is anyone's guess. If you don't want to go in the direction that Microsoft wants to drag you, Windows 8.1 really is a better choice than Windows 10. It's stable, so customizations you make to the system will stick and won't be overridden by compulsory updates. If you use a tablet, it works just as well on that. (Linux is pretty much a train wreck on tablets)
  5. I am now an official member of the Tinitus club, and It sucks. I have trouble sleeping on that side, because I hear faint "ringing" in the ear. Lower the volume before this happens to you too.

I also have three small kids, and sometimes when they play too loudly indoors, I seek silence with industrial earmuffs. Good purchase, even though the wife disapproves, for some bizarre reason... =D

Oh yeah, cinemas... last time i went there, they turned the bass up to max, so it was BOOM BOOM BOOOOM!!! the whole time. Guess people need loud signals these days, otherwise they don't sense anything.

I've had tinnitus for about 5 years now. I also got mine from a concert where I was dumb and didn't bring my earplugs. Shitty band too, such a waste. Anyway I was also freaking out about it in the beginning, but I took solace in the fact that it wasn't affecting my ability to hear, and even very low sound makes it inaudible. Now I never notice it, unless I have a bad cold with a stuffy nose which makes it a bit louder, but a mild annoyance at most.

  6. Thanks Grayman, looks awesome. Kind of like a spiritual successor to Knightan Manor, a mission I love because of the tried and true (when it comes to mansion missions) nonlinear design and various ways to get around. I'll try it out tonight; playing TDM during the day time just feels wrong.

    2016+ CPU/GPU News

https://www.wired.com/story/amd-backdoor-cts-labs-backlash/ I did upgrade to Ryzen, but I also have an old FX8350 box sitting here. And I plan to keep it. Unlike modern chips, it doesn't have one of these built-in "insecurity processors"(the Intel implementation has security problems too), so the FX8350 is actually safer than new chips simply because attacks that would leverage the insecurity processor simply cannot work. You can't attack something that's not there!
  8. This will be used to identify people (like me) who use system encryption, to then target us with extra harassment. "give us your passwords or we won't let you fly. If you don't give us the passwords, we'll image the drive (making me miss the flight), or confiscate the hardware."
  9. https://betanews.com/2018/03/13/aclu-tsa-searches-lawsuit/ "This is not a joke, people! Dozens of plane hijacks have been successful because the terrorists threatened to make the passengers listen to 32kbps mp3s of the shittiest 80's music if the passengers didn't comply during the hijacking!" Therefor, it is our duty to let TSA go rummaging through the contents of our laptops and smart phones at random when we travel, because binary data on a flash chip/hard drive totally poses a threat to fellow passengers on a plane.
  10. Do you use nvidia-settings? It is a program on Linux to configure the nvidia card. In there, you will find options for anti-aliasing/anisotropic filtering/rendering quality. You can set them to "application default", off, or force override them with specific values.
  11. Wow, this was quick! Thanks for the mission I checked it out last night. It is fun being able to spawn and spar with whatever AI you want. (I know you could also use console commands to achieve this).
  12. https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/03/09/windows_10_s_mode_confirmed/ Initially they were going to charge extra to get out of S mode. Looks like the new plan is to start shipping PCs in S mode, in an attempt to get users to adopt it. Then, if users want out of S mode to run programs not blessed by Microsoft, it will be free (for now). But the master plan, which I can see coming from 10 miles away, is to gently get enough people on S mode that they can then start charging to get out of it. Here's the proof that they were initially planning to charge. https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/05/04/windows_10_s_bing_edge/
  13. A Dark Mod deathmatch mission would be interesting. Imagine it, you're dropped into an arena and you can spawn different characters via pressing buttons on the wall. They fight each other (and you) There were missions like this for Thief 1 and 2...

Honestly this would be a good standalone project on something like UE4. D3 had limited network support but wasn't great even in it's heyday.

Two important things to note are...

A: No need to code extensive NPC stealth interaction since it would be purely player based.

B: Project (light based) stealth could try and harness strict visibility based stealth. Since players will require clear line of sight, "fake darkness" really would have no place there. You really would need straight black in the darkest corners.

      ERH+

Almost done with arena map. thieves are on player side; mages, pagans and moors on elemental team - so you have 4 sides: monster, townsfolk, thieves, exotic. It crashes sometimes when you have about 20 creatures, but I guess there must be such price.

  14. Started playing with this again tonight. Forgive me, but I can't check, as bugs.angua.at is down. However, sometimes the sword does not work. I draw it, and it swings, but no sound is played, and the AI does not react to it. They don't get hurt, and they don't block it. It's like I'm not actually swinging anything at them. Sometimes the sword does work though. This is TDM2.06, 64-bit version running natively on Linux. Is this a known problem? (makes not getting caught very important!)
  15. In some cases you slide your finger in towards the center from the left side of the screen.
  16. Makes me not want to carry one of these in my pocket.
  17. Not an expert negotiator or anything like that, but I think this cop did a shitty job trying to talk her down. https://www.liveleak.com/view?i=e40_1493069063#comment_page=4 Instead of constantly disagreeing with her (you're not, you're not, you're not), he should have tried to use reason. Throwing it in the person's face that they're wrong without any explanation as to why is likely to only escalate things. Also, this isn't like diffusing a bomb that's on a set timer. Talking someone out of suicide can't be rushed. The slower you take things, the more successful you're likely to be. Taking things too quickly will only cause escalation. Try talking to them about (other things). Ask them if they want something to eat/drink. Slowly make a connection with them and then move up from there.
  18. The article makes it sound as though the installer only leaves the password harvesting payload in place if he is using a cracked product key. But given the fact that kids installing cracked games onto family computers is as common as a blue sky, this behavior is still not okay. (They could very well end up harvesting passwords of people who played no part in the installation of this content!)
  19. https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2018/02/20/we-were-after-one-guy-say-malware-flight-simmers/ A lot of people look at me funny when I tell them I don't want Linux to get popular. Well at least I imagine they do, since I can't see their faces over the Internet. Anyway, here is yet another example of why I feel the way that I do. On Windows, developers seem to think it is okay to fuck with things that they have 0 business fucking with. Sometimes its DRM-crusading assholes installing secret kernel mode drivers with games or tampering with the boot sector in the case of Flexnet, or in this case dropping a password harvester. Other times, software installers will try to install a browser toolbar, or hijack the preferred search engine/home page. I have no interest in the riffraff coming over to Linux, which is something that's guaranteed to happen if it gets popular. Therefor, I don't want it to.

    2016+ CPU/GPU News

Not really CPU/GPU related, but hardware related. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816132037&cm_re=hot_swap_rack-_-16-132-037-_-Product This thing looks cool, but why the hell do they use molex power connectors? Surely any modern PSU is going to have more SATA connectors than molex, and what molexes there are are going to be used for things like case fans and supplementing GPU power. I really want to install one of these, but it would needlessly complicate wiring.
  21. This thing can't come out fast enough. (new real-time renderer in Blender!)
  22. More lol's https://www.howtogeek.com/342871/hey-microsoft-stop-installing-apps-on-my-pc-without-asking/ It's like, all the things that we told people would happen, are happening! This isn't entirely the user's fault, many of them did actively try to say no to Windows 10. But these users didn't know that clicking the red X equates to "sign me up for it anyway in the background".
  23. https://youtu.be/AjaGWLNAGVc?t=2065 What could a play-through of Streets of Rage have to do with Windows 10? Watch and find out. (you'll laugh)
  24. For one of the first (the first?) beat-em up games ever, this looks pretty sophisticated. Running, sitting on downed enemies and punching them, knocking them off the map, throwing them into each other, etc.
  25. I agree. 7 is the new XP. I just wish it got as long of a support period as XP did (still does). Some versions of XP are still supported until 2019! Maybe if enough people dig their heals into the grass and refuse to switch off of Windows 7, they will be forced to extend it.
