  1. Yes, this drives me absolutely mad! I have a home brew cabinet thing that I've tried to rotate 90 degrees but the stupid origins simply don't follow, and nothing I can figure helps it. Would be glad to hear any kind of workaround to this, instead of having to manually replace all the origins each time! I also have a feeling that I've done this without losing origin integrity some time ago, but I don't think I've updated DR since I first installed it.
  2. I'm running AMD A10 -5800K with a Radeon HD 4800 (6 years old) so I feel like my rig is pretty low end. I'm probably average or a bit above on skills, since I've played a lot of the maps currently available. Most importantly I would be delighted to help with beta testing the first installment of the campaign!
  3. I guess I have to list the games I've probably played the most hours of, barring online multiplayer games: Thief: The Dark Project (I didn't see it mentioned in OP ) Total Annihilation (best RTS ever imo, though Blizzard made some great ones too) Oblivion (just so immersive! and a great modding community as well) S.T.A.L.K.E.R series (atmosphere and addictive RPG hybrid features) Diablo II (doesn't need explanation I think ) Freelancer (just loved the SP campaign of this game for some reason, I still play it every once in a while) But on the topic of nostalgia I must say the old Doom clones did soak up a loooot of my time as a prepubescent gamer back in the mid 90's. Doom, Doom II, Duke Nukem 3D, Heretic, Hexen, Dark Forces, Shadow Warrior, Blood (does this one count? can't remember), that's a slice of my childhood right there ^^
  4. These are all great ideas, although as said before actually estimating difficulty is quite hard. Different people will struggle with different things. Some will struggle with puzzles, others with forced combat, while a third person will struggle with understanding the English in readables/conversations. I think it is reasonably easy to identify novice friendly missions, and having a tag system in the download menu would certainly benefit newcomers. I also like your idea rich_is_bored, using result screens is perhaps the most objective way to estimate difficulty, at least with regards to mission length, AI difficulty and loot difficulty. This would have to be something actively submitted by players though. Adding some function where TDM calls home and sends result screens in the background would be... dubious at best. I guess a tick box in the menu (which you have to manually select) would be an acceptable middle ground.
  5. That feeling when you've been working in DR so many hours that you start trying to delete files in Windows with backspace and unselect them with Esc...

lol once or twice, but worse trying to find a 3D modeler with similar controls to DR...

When I try to unlock my PC at work I occasionally press "Ctrl+Alt+`" to bring down the Doom 3 console as apposed to "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" like I'm supposed to.

  6. Oh no it wasn't terrible, and my rig is quite dated... I noticed a drop from around 30-35 fps down to 15 fps, especially So anyway thank you for putting in the effort and making a quality Halloween mission!
  7. This mission was very surreal and confusing, but overall quite enjoyable and very unique (as far as missions go)
  8. This was a great mission! I especially loved the architecture with dilapidated buildings and scores of rats roaming the streets! Very Halloween-y
  9. Great little mini-mansion mission I was pleasantly surprised how much gameplay you were able to bake in to the mission is such a short time!
  10. Wow, that bad huh? Sounds like I'll be staying away from this one. Might have to check out classic shell as well, I just cannot get used to the stupid/childish touch optimized bs that is the stock Win 8 interface.
  11. I understand the causes behind the leaks (aside from the origin thing, that never occurred to me!), it's just that when you do pointfile in DR usually you get a long squiggly line that is more than unhelpful. I've gathered you can look in the log in TDM console while dmaping to see some more detailed information that has helped me a few times. I think the message I have to take home though is to build from scratch in grid 8 to avoid 1000 leaks to fix further down the road. Haha, I'm glad I'm not the only one confused by caulk. So far I only use it for coating surfaces that will be unseen. Read different ideas on whether it improves performance or not, but either way it seems like sound practice. I feel it also helps to make maps look more organized in DR as MirceaKitsune mentioned. Anyway I will continue working with this new information in mind. If nothing else I hope I can make some cool prefab houses for people to use in their missions. But I'm really hoping to release one of my own as well edit: Oh, while on the topic of sealing the void, how do patches work in this regard? One sided patches wouldn't seal I guess, but how about if you thicken it so there are no openings to it? Thinking mostly of rounded roofs on buildings and that sort of thing?
  12. Ah, the Win 10 drama continues ^^ M$ really are hit and miss... Seems to me that since XP it's been every other OS bad every other good. XP good, Vista bad, 7 good, 8 bad... so by that logic 10 should be a keeper. But hearing about all the compatibility issues, and the fact that it still in a "cloud beta" stage makes me wary... just wondering if it's worth nabbing for my little 8.1 laptop that I don't use for gaming anyway. I'm thinking that way I have a key for free when (or rather if) it actually becomes a respectable OS in the future. But I'm also afraid it will totally brick my machine, which is finicky already with 8.1... How have you guys of the forum treated Win 10?
  13. I actually never tried playing Descent in multiplayer, but I beat the single player campaign of both games multiple times. It was one of those pioneer games that made your jaw drop back in the day, and it was one of my first games as well. There was later a "spiritual successor" game on N64 called Forsaken with which I had a ton of fun with my buddies, but it wasn't quite the same magic still.
  14. That is what I thought. I'm starting to retrofit it already, to be proactive. However I'm noticing it's a gargantuan task, even if I've only been working on this particular section for about 6 hours. Trouble is I was using the 3-story Tudor inn prefab and hollowing it out bit by bit to make it a real inn. Problem is stuff is miles off grid, and I had to widen it cause it was just too thin to be realistic. I hope I can fix stuff with caulk bandages... I still don't quite get if caulk seals the "leaf", i.e. if I bandage a small hole with a caulk brush will it stop the other side from being rendered if they are supposed to be shut off with a portal? If not I'm in for so much work I might as well start from scratch -.- Thanks for all your replies!
  15. Glad I found this thread! I've been spending a lot of time lately in DR, after following Fidcal's A-Z tutorial I got almost obsessed with mapping and am working on a project now. One of the most frustrating things for me is the camera view. Is there any way to decrease the movement speed when you are "flying around" by holding down a button perhaps? I find it difficult getting in position when working on fine scale things. Similarly, is there a way to focus the camera on something that you've highlighted through the grid view? As maps grow it becomes tiresome to manually fly everywhere Finally a mapping question... during my test mission build following the A-Z guide I had such a pain with leaks everywhere I couldn't pinpoint that I started building inside a giant caulk cube. I realized this causes serious visportal related rendering problems if you have leaks, but if I did find roughly where a leak is, is it ok to "bandage" it with caulk or will it still render everything it since caulk is see-through? Anyway I'm sure there will be a ton more questions as I go along, but this is the most important stuff atm Thanks in advance.
  16. I don't think it is really that illogical. Oh and thanks for the heads up on how elite guards work Sotha!
  17. I played this mission some time last week, and I was totally floored. Simply amazing work man, even better than Requiem! The novel game play elements were really clever and seamless. The story is rich and detailed, and suspended my disbelief the whole way through! As far as criticism goes that is mere nitpicking though! I don't want to take anything away from your achievement here.
  18. *slowly raises hand* The mission was really enjoyable, and especially the briefing, the black jack joke gave me a good chuckle Considering the tiny build time I really can't criticize anything about the mission, was a solid job well done!
  19. Awesome mission Sotha, you really outdid yourself with this one!! I liked the new story elements you brought in, hoping to see it all tied together in Ulysses 3 I had a really fun and challenging play-through, with a few hickups Anyway I loved the different gameplay elements that you have employed in this series of missions, really shows the potential of TDM!
  20. Loved this mission! Very different to the normal sneaking fare. Still tried to keep to ghost rules as much as I could, and ended up with a score of 7. Just had a hard time with ...but that was totally a fault of mine. The mission was outright gorgeous. The layout was maybe a tad claustrophobic, but that definitely fit the over all tone. Not a mission for beginners, but a great challenge for us experienced taffers :smugbert: The only thing I can add as constructive criticism of sorts is by echoing what others have said, more readables! What little we get to absorb of the story is fascinating just wish there was more! I haven't played the sequel yet, waiting with that until tomorrow but hoping there will be more light on the subject there. Thanks again for your amazing missions.
