  1. Still wishing you the best, Taquito. This is insane, a territory of the US is still mostly (basically everywhere) without power and water. Granted, it's a huge job, but can't more be done? I have a brother who lives in the US Virgin Islands. I just shipped 24 chainsaws to the company he works for, so his company can help out the US Corps of Engineers. Something is really wrong with this picture, are we so in love with our 50 star flag that we can not make these territories states? Forgive my ranting, I just don't get this. Hang tough, Taquito!
  2. We are all still thinking of you, Taquito! Hopefully, you found a good use for those paper towels that our great leader threw at you. Seriously, hope you and your family are well.
  3. I'm using it with no crashes (yet), however, NoScript stopped working. After some fiddling around, I did get it back again. Great! That just figures! Thanks for the heads-up, Atomica, I had done a bit of research into my NoScript problem, but I didn't run across that bit of info. Keeping my fingers crossed that my favorite Add-ons will still work.
  4. Hopefully, he'll be ok. Just going from his posts, he's an intelligent and resourceful person. No doubt about it though, his hands are going to be full for awhile. Even after things start to return to normal there, it's likely that it will be sometime before he has the time to check in here. I'm sure that he'll get a kick out of that vid! Also, I'm sure he will be alright, his avatar is a dog in full scuba gear! (MODS, I'm going to bump this thread every once in awhile, sorry)
  5. Taquito lives in Puerto Rico, and they got hit hard by hurricanes. Basically no one has power there now and it looks like it could be at least a month before power is back up, maybe even longer.
  6. It may be a long time before you are able to check in here, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that everyone here hopes you are well, and we are all hoping that you and your family are ok. Hang in there, stay safe, and hope you can come back soon.
  7. No worries bobrpggamer! I had posted in Commchat on ttlg, and then thought I would post here, thus the rather cryptic thread title. I don't do Facebook or any of that other hashtaggie stuff, but I wanted to reach out for help anywhere I could find it. It was my mistake, not yours, I assumed that because I first learned of TDM from TTLG that everyone here started at TTLG. Looking at the dates of your posts, the voting was already over at that point, and the link I posted may have re-directed to someplace weird. Thanks again to everyone, the roof is finished, and it looks great! They completely stripped the old sheathing, and replaced it with proper materials.(her old sheathing was only 1/4", which is not even up to code) It looks great, and it would not have happened without everyone's help here, so pat yourselves on the back! It may seem like nothing, but you helped a complete stranger in a really big way and little things like that make this world a better place, which is a big deal in my book. Cheers!
  8. Update! New roof is in progress! Thanks to you all! The roofers have done a complete tear-off of her old roof and re-sheathed and put down new self-sealing membrane, should have the job finished tomorrow. Thanks again! Sorry bobrpggamer, I have had my hands a little full lately, that link was closed due to the contest being over, but thanks for trying!
  9. Congrats, NeonStyle, downloading now! I tend to just skim these threads just in case of unintended spoilers, but couldn't help but notice raymeld and Oldjim's comments. raymeld 75, and Oldjim I'm guessing 65ish? Nice to hear, I'm 52 and I have lately often wondered if I will still be enjoying tdm in the future. I hope I will be able to keep up with you! Cheers to you both, and to Neon!
  10. Thanks Biya! It's official, she has won a new roof! Thanks everyone!!! I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help. Aileen wants me to pass on her thanks for the votes, along with a hug for you all, not sure she gets the whole internet forum thing. But there you go, a warm friendly hug from my great neighbor and friend, in digital form! Thanks again!
  11. Thanks all! The percentage counter is turned off now to make it a surprise for the winner, but she was in the lead with 55% of votes at last count. Will let you know what happens on the 14th.
  12. Thanks guys! Really appreciate the support, she just came to my rescue again today, she may be the world's best neighbor. You guys rock!
  13. So shines a good deed in a weary world Can I get a little help here? As some of you may be aware, I am a caregiver for my mother who has Alzheimers. I have a really great neighbor who has helped me out several times. She is 90 years old, but still continues to do a lot of community work. She has watched over my little monster three times, giving me the opportunity to run to the store, or to the pharmacist. The last time she watched over my mother I came home to find her sitting on my mothers bed, holding her hand. She has a chance to have her roof replaced for free, providing enough people vote for her. If you could find the time, please go to https://noroofleftbehind.com/program...minationDetail and vote for "A roof for Mom" Her name is Aileen. BTW, she is 90 years old but for her 90th birthday she took a Segway tour of a local graveyard, and a pub crawl on a self-powered peddle driven wagon, so she probably has a few good years left in her, providing her roof doesn't cave in on her! Thanks to any who would help out with votes.
  14. Bikerdude, I can only echo the hopes of others, that you will continue to stick around and help other mappers and continue to create map content as you have done for so long. Taking a step back seems a totally reasonable reaction, but you are (it seems to me) such an important part of TDM, that to lose you would be a blow to the TDM community. You have given so much to this community, and I hope you realize that a lot of us recognize all you have done, I'm sure that I am not the only person to think so. I can only say thanks for all you have done! Thanks to you, and more people, (you know who you are) who have recently posted vids on how-tos, I have started trying getting into making maps. One of the things keeping me going was the thought that no matter how bad I messed things up, you could have fixed it for me! Hopefully, in the next two years, (my estimated completion time) you will still be around to fix all my screw-ups! Cheers to you, and thanks for all your time and effort!
  15. My condolences, teh_saccade. Remember the good times, and remember you are never alone.
  16. Good point, and I should say that my days of spending large sums of money on audio equipment are long behind me, my current "stereo system" is an old (16-17 yrs?) Sony cd player running through that same old NAD amp (after 30 years, it refuses to die!) out to an ancient set of polk speakers. In fact, when I started this thread I was listening to mp3-4s audio rips on my pc, obviously not the ideal situation. As STiFU points out my perception may be tainted by my past, I definitely prefer the sound of analog over digital, but my best analog set-up cost me somewhere around $3800, not something I would ever do again. I did embrace digital when it came out, I had a cd player in my car long before it was mainstream. I can't even remember the brand, but it was a cd player only, no receiver involved and pre-amp only. It had a full size din unit in the dash, and another din sized black box that mounted under the seat. Add in an EQ, and amps, it basically filled the interior of the car. In an automotive environment it was great, I loved not having to deal with the degradation of cassettes any longer. rich_is_bored makes a good point also. (yes, I totally screwed-up multiquote!) I will have to do a bit of googling to learn more about 96khz 24bit FLAC, but thanks for the nudge. As for your point about mastering, I'm going to have to admit that it has probably been over a decade since I last bought a newly mastered CD. So as STiFU says in a more polite way, I'm probably talking out of my ass! Thanks for the education and input guys! tl:dr - I'm an old fart who misses the "clunk" of my 8-track player!
  17. I have to admit that I know next to nothing about how much content is contained in a vinyl recording, but I would have to characterize it as "all" of the audio content. (and pops and hisses don't happen if you treat your records right) There lies the problem I have with digital. (not that big deal to me, understand, I am just curious about why digital can't reproduce analog) There is a noticeable difference between the two, that I believe anyone could hear. Again, I have to fall back on vague terms like "depth" and "warmth" and even "presence" to try to describe these differences. Digital sounds "cold", "stark", and "tinny". I'm 52 now, and spent a good deal of my life building engines and also running heavy equipment, so my high frequency hearing is also likely impaired. My disappointment with digital is not with the frequency range, but with less easy to quantify issues. Many years ago (more than I care to remember!), I, and a few audiophile friends ran a little experiment. We set up two systems with the exact same tube amps, preamps, and speakers. One system had my turntable (a mid-range Sota, widely recognized as one of the best turntables), the other used a Nakamichi CD player (DVD's did not exist at this date). We played albums that we owned on both formats (Fleetwood Mac "Bare Trees", Talking Heads "Remain in Light", and some King Crimson were featured, I just checked with a couple of the people who where present for the experiment), and the consensus was 100% vinyl crushed CD. I guess it's one of those "you have to be there" kind of things. I have to further reveal my ignorance on the topic by asking are modern recordings mastered on digital, or analog? At any rate, I do enjoy hearing from you all, and appreciate your input and knowledge more than I can express! BTW: I apologize for the thread title, I'm not sure why I used such harsh language, I blame the bad influence of ttlg!
  18. So, If read all this right, it would technically be possible to reproduce the "sound" of a vinyl record digitally? It is just a matter of jamming more info into the media? I guess that in the early days of compact discs that would mean that each disc might only be able to hold part of a song. How many TBs would an average album require? 2-3 might suggest that there may be some chance of what I am hoping for.(digital that sounds the same as vinyl) But I'm guessing we would be talking 100's of TB. Oh well, I can dream anyway. Thanks guys!
  19. I have seen that a lot of you here seem to have knowledge of modern technology that I lack, so could someone please explain to me why digital recordings can't have the depth and warmth of my old beloved vinyl records and tube amps? (I ask this while listening to Pink Floyd Meddle) I guess that at some point in the past it was too data intensive to convert analog completely to digital, is this still true? Couldn't digital recordings equal the quality of analog recordings at this point in time? Crap, I'm not sure this question will even make sense, unless you have ever experienced true analog music you may not even understand the difference. Just trust me, you youngsters have never really been able to really experience music. The difference is beyond night and day. For any of you old timers, my last system was a (long gone) Sota turntable and a NAD amp.
  20. For some reason, prolly my own fault, anything I posted after the link to the intro missions latched itself onto that link? At any rate, corwinat, be prepared to enjoy over 100 fm's, all of them very enjoyable, and more coming on a regular basis.
  21. Great news, corwinat! Glad to hear you resolved your initial problems, after you run through the training missions, make sure you play the intro missions: TDM 2.05 official introductory missions
  22. corwinat, make sure you get this problem resolved! You will not be disappointed! If nbohr1mores' fix doesn't help make sure you reply, you don't want to miss out on this mod. (and as someone who has NOTHING at all to do with tdm, I can assure you that someone will resolve this issue, and odds are that you will have no further troubles, 'cause this community is very professional, and very friendly.)
  23. All I can say is wow! Spoonman, you have created something really great here! Two hours in, and although I have my loot goal, I am nowhere near finished with this. Just wow. Edited to fix grammar. P.S. I misspelled grammar, lol.
  24. Thanks, Sotha! Your proposal makes a lot of sense, I'll try it, but you may be surprised at just how clue-less I can be. Will give it a shot, but I may get totally lost in DR's interface. If no one hears from me within the next 24-36 months please send in a search and rescue team!
  25. Thanks for the words of support, Sotha! If I can press my luck a little, I have a bit of an odd request, would you be ok with me following your vids to copy your map? Of course, I would never release it as my own, but I feel it would be invaluable to me to learn my way around DR step by step, with a finished product to compare to. I fully understand if you would not be comfortable with this request, so don't hesitate to tell me NO!
