  1. Sorry for my absence. I am recovering from a recent Covid infection. Dr told me I can return to work ( wfh ) Sunday. Not sure about that timetable…

Thanks for the well-wishes! I feel I am mostly recovered. ( maybe the antiviral drugs helped hasten things ? ) Definitely glad I didnt suffer the fate of Physics Girl. The only lasting Covid impact for me is residual muscle discomfort in my right arm from the first vaccine dose 2 yrs ago.

@nbohr1more, I'm glad to hear that you're well on the road to recovery and not suffering the worst of the long-term effects. Here's hoping each day continues to be better.

Hey @nbohr1more Media page on website is borked:

      https://www.thedarkmod.com/media/

(it looks like the Nextgen gallery plugin doesn't work anymore sitewide)

Edit: Ah somebody seems to be working on it now. I wonder why a description list is used though..

Having a lightbox + slideshow plugin would be a good idea.

Maybe it's also good to upload some more (recent) screenshots and/or other media? We could make some sort of competition and the highest ratest screenshots will be placed on the media page? This could also influx some more TDM play (of 2.11).

      Congratulations!

(I find it odd that there isn't an open topic to congratulate the Team for the release).

Congrats - gonna test it out ASAP. Thanks a lot for your hard and constant work. It is great to see the game evolving further!

  4. The Dark Mod is hosting an Ask Me Anything thread on the PC Gaming reddit forum:  https://www.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/10nfcwj/hello_we_are_the_international_development_team/

Feel free to join the discussion there :)

Very effective. There's Thief fans there admitting they never heard of TDM, and now they are trying it. So excellent.

  5. Anyone have a copy of the old training_demo.pk4 "timedemo benchmark"? I cannot find it in my old files collection.

Nope. Not that I can find. If it was there, they seem to have removed it.

If you know it was on a current site, you can try archive.org to see if they have it cached in a past snapshot.

  6. AMD 6xxx users, there are some credible reports that the latest WHQL driver "Adrenalin 22.11.2" is allowing the GPU to damage itself due to either thermal or electrical variance. Revert your driver or enforce power \ thermal limits where possible.

Sounds like you're safe to me.

Everyone should probably be under-volting AMD anyway from what I've heard.
The story goes that they push the voltage up to ensure that bad silicon has a better chance of testing at the rated clocks so they will have more chips to sell. I'm sure it's an industry wide practice but I imagine consumers would rather that bad silicon get sold at lower prices with lower clocks (etc) than pushing all chips to the brink just so they can squeeze out 10% more high-end sales.

      The Black Arrow

Do you remember the "AMD Killer" event? It's like Nvidia and AMD are trying to give the new Intel ARC very little competition to do that again, but...No, I really doubt it that this time one company or the other is doing an incredibly scummy (yet typical of every corporation) tactic to defile its competitors. This time, it's absurd incompetence from both Nvidia (4090 and 4070 Ti) and AMD (Not even the 7900's new thermals are good)

    4. lowenz

      lowenz

There's no need to undervolt, just set a lower power limit. The current is the killer if the physical problem is the overheat and not some capacitor/dielectric explosion (that's how voltage damage works, errors apart due to how undervolting practices makes computation/processing unstable)

  7. TDM 2.11 beta 03 is out !

  8. Anyone have any luck with light.setShader( string ) ? It seems to make whichever light you apply it to full-bright on the initial invoke?

unknown general material parameter 'lightAmbientDiffuse' in 'lights/ambientCube/cumbesky_mountain_sunset_caduceus'

in both TDM 2.10 and SVN. The ambient is missing, therefore no effect anyways.

Don't know what you've done or may have forgotten to include, but I cannot reproduce an ambient issue if there is no ambient 😕

And next time, test map :)

    3. nbohr1more

      nbohr1more

lightAmbienDiffuse should exist in the latest SVN per:

I can create an alternate material with ambientCubicLight instead for 2.10 if you prefer?

    4. Obsttorte

      Obsttorte

This and .... a test map ;) I really don't want to dig through tons of files to search for the issue, not to mention the loading times. And if you cannot reproduce the issue in a test map, then maybe it's the maps fault.

  9. Congratulations to Wellingtoncrab! Winner of the Christmas Connections Contest !

  10. Ping! I intend to complete voting tallies on March 18th if possible. Please try out the missions and vote if you can:

    1. datiswous

      datiswous

Hi, can you remove my vote for Hazard Pay ? I didn't finish the mission.

    2. nbohr1more

      nbohr1more

      Can oblige.

That said, there is no need to fully complete a mission to vote on it. As long as you've played enough of it to reasonably assess it's qualities then voting on it is kosher. If an author chooses to hide all the best qualities of the mission until the very end, I would estimate that most players would not like that mission no matter how good the ending. Eg. Ideally, a highly rated mission will be fun from start to finish and will not force players to endure long "dry" areas devoid of entertainment.

  11. Moddb article for 2.10 is up: https://www.moddb.com/mods/the-dark-mod/news/the-darkmod-210-is-here

Ah I see, apologies - it read at first like a continuation from the VL section as that was the last header - I thought each image was intended to show off a VL example from each contest mission. Apologies for the nitpicking.

Yes, fireplaces and a FEW windows. Sorry I’m late to the game, seems you got it sorted. But yeah, I wanted more windows to have volumetric lights, but decided not to on those long hallways for performance reasons. That’s always a fine line.
      Anyway thanks for the article!

Thank you for doing this, and thank the rest of the team for getting 2.07 out the door! Not really using low end hardware anymore; the weakest thing I play on is a GTX770-4GB, but still.

  15. Comparing older versions TDM 1.02 = 30 FPS vs TDM 2.07 over 80 FPS. Same mission same hardware. 2.07 with all eye-candy.

    4. nbohr1more

      nbohr1more

      Yes. LOL.

Suprisingly, tdm_lg_split works really well in 1.02. To think of all the extra performance I could've had when playing back then...

So wait, AI vs AI? Or the player gets to challenge the NPC to an, "arms race"?

The player option goes down really hilarious in my head. xD

    3. nbohr1more

      nbohr1more

Oh, now I want both options! LOL! I was thinking of an AI vs AI arm wrestling contest with other AI gathered around watching them.

I would personally love an A to Z tut. I still might have a guy set for doing my FM soundtrack so having extra knowledge to arm all the select audio bits would be wonderful.

    3. demagogue

      demagogue

The Location System is technically mentioned in the context of a blurb saying the ambient sound system exists. (I remember because I wrote it!) But not everything it does. It's a bit complicated for an intro tutorial, but if many people think it's important enough, maybe we can have section just for it and add the ambient sound & EFX.

Yes to stgatilov and Epifire, we're talking about fidcal's tutorial if you didn't catch it: http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=A_-_Z_Beginner_Full_Guide_Start_Here!
