Great job! That was very well written.
-
Thanks guys. Sorry for the grammar mistakes. I tried to get the article up quickly while my family was out on the town. I'll be updating it with a few more changes shortly.
-
I had a giggle at the pseudo-quote of me regarding low obstacle mantling. :-D Good article! :-)

Comparing older versions TDM 1.02 = 30 FPS vs TDM 2.07 over 80 FPS. Same mission same hardware. 2.07 with all eye-candy.

Still waiting for more respondents here:
-
Oh wait... is this the version where lightgem was processed by capturing screenshot into a named pipe?
-
Yes. LOL.
Suprisingly, tdm_lg_split works really well in 1.02. To think of all the extra performance I could've had when playing back then...
-
Weird pipedream of the day: I wish TDM had AI "arm wrestling" support
- Show previous comments 1 more
-
So wait, AI vs AI? Or the player gets to challenge the NPC to an, "arms race"?
The player option goes down really hilarious in my head. xD
-
Oh, now I want both options! LOL! I was thinking of an AI vs AI arm wrestling contest with other AI gathered around watching them.
-
Whew. Behind Closed Doors now has EFX reverb. The list grows.
-
I added an EFX reverb column to the missions wiki. (No pressure...)

I would personally love an A to Z tut. I still might have a guy set for doing my FM soundtrack so having extra knowledge to arm all the select audio bits would be wonderful.
-
The Location System is technically mentioned in the context of a blurb saying the ambient sound system exists. (I remember because I wrote it!) But not everything it does. It's a bit complicated for an intro tutorial, but if many people think it's important enough, maybe we can have section just for it and add the ambient sound & EFX.
-
Yes to stgatilov and Epifire, we're talking about fidcal's tutorial if you didn't catch it: http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=A_-_Z_Beginner_Full_Guide_Start_Here!

Unexpectedly image_downSize is no longer broken with Bloom in 2.06. Set to 32 for a stylized cartoon look

-
That's pretty fantastic. I'd almost wanna try playing an FM that way just to see what it's like.
-
neat!
-
16 bit colors can also help.

Commited slider at rev 15227
-
I think it should be provided officially. It's easy to patch via the updater, right ?
-
Maybe bring it up in the dev forums?

2.06 is out the door! Whew!!!

If the Moddb stats are correct. We have doubled the largest 1-day visit count.

Nice!
-
My belated congrats on the v2.06 release !
-
A little help request. Please let me know if your Textures, Sounds, Models, etc are in TDM 2.06 but not in any of the "What's new" articles from 2.0 to 2.06
- Show previous comments 4 more
-
Yep. Medical assets in 2.06
-
Ottoman is in 2.06 and looks like it was in 2.05
-
OK. I think I've sorted out the attribution issues. It wasn't as complicated as I thought. Thanks all. (And thanks for the contributions.)
-
Whoo! Final 2.06 beta package out! Almost done!
-
Congrats on the DR 2.6.0 release Greebo!

A new Spectre is haunting us: https://www.techspot.com/news/74447-eight-new-spectre-variants-affecting-intel-chips-discovered.html

Oh deep joy, lets hope AMD now that they have a better fab process get ahead of intel this time.
-
@Epifire: Intel knew about Meltdown more than half a year before it went public. And they probably also knew that fixing it in current chips would cause a performance drop. So, the chip they sold you that runs at Y speed now runs at Y-X speed because of the Meltdown workaround.
-
The disclosure was quite harsh, because the vulnerabilities were rediscovered by independent researcher (from rare some clues in the public).
-
Anyone have an idea how to address the regression in 4754?

-
I'll post it. Do you have FBO enabled?
-
Yes all the new stuff is enabled, I'm on Nvidia GTX 980ti.
-
This a fresh SVN compile?

The people who are prosecuting Trump are the same people who helped rig the DNC election against Bernie. 1 + 1 = 2.
-
Bernie was never going to win though, he's too....Canadian lol.
However what happened to him was really fucking shitty but that's politics.
Also, any politician who's guilty of this stuff should be prosecuted and put in jail.

Time to dispense some truth:
-
Time to prank Duzenko. Let's see if we can sneak GL_POLYGON_SMOOTH into the renderer somewhere...
- Show previous comments 1 more
-
lol troll
-
Duzenko: I'm gonna get rid of all legacy OpenGL in TDM. (months of work) nbohr1more: what's the oldest and most buggy OpenGL feature...?
-
And I just read this
-
To help expedite development: Do any mappers recall using ambient lights "with falloff" in any released missions? Name of mission?
- Show previous comments 5 more
-
All set. Fix accomplished.
-
IIRC I think I used my world ambient with falloff for my FM (Patently Dangerous), because I wanted to make out-of-map areas into total black with a blurry boundary.
-
@Nbohr - grand.

Wink, Wink: Spoonman has a new beta... http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18049-betatesters-needed/?view=getnewpost

I can't compile SVN sources. Again I think it might be Microsoft's fault...

I found that two files were missing from the Visual Studio solution. Have you ever considered a unified build system like CMake?
-
It was discussed. We agreed it was a good way forward but whoever merged the changes would need to document all the setup and compile details so it would be seamless for those who do not fiddle with compile infrastructure. Then it was never implemented. We are in a better position now since we already have Dhewm changes in source.
-
THANK YOU to whomever fixed the SVN trunk!

Blue_Pill is on fire! Thank you for the patches!

Can you post a change log?
-
Thats awesome!
-
This guy should do an episode about TDM tweaking:
-
oh dear, doing that to a game is almost a crime.
-
was this after or before valve removed 600 objects from the game. (Done by valve to make hl2 compatible for xbox, but pc game got the nerf as well). max number of object you could have per map was reduced be 600. originally 2400, reduced to 1800 per map.
-
Why an episode? point thema to the wikipage. Maybe we should add some screenshots to it.

4chan trying to access Seth Rich's Gmail account: https://twitter.com/polNewsForever/status/866617280519647232

This would also need to be debunked:
-
Did you read it? Almost all other places are censoring DNC topics. Name a place where I can read about DNC controversies and I'll gladly switch. T_D covers terrorist attacks and all sorts of censored material that isn't available in David Brock's 1984 news universe.
-
Understood. You won't read a detailed technical breakdown of document forensics because it came from a partisan source. C'est la vie.
-
4chan being DDOS'ed. They are trying to hide Seth Rich murder details! https://www.reddit.com/r/The_Donald/comments/6bqet4/this_is_what_broke_poljoe_capone_owner_of_bar/
