Great job! That was very well written.

Thanks guys. Sorry for the grammar mistakes. I tried to get the article up quickly while my family was out on the town. I'll be updating it with a few more changes shortly.

I had a giggle at the pseudo-quote of me regarding low obstacle mantling. :-D Good article! :-)

  1. Comparing older versions TDM 1.02 = 30 FPS vs TDM 2.07 over 80 FPS. Same mission same hardware. 2.07 with all eye-candy.

Oh wait... is this the version where lightgem was processed by capturing screenshot into a named pipe?

    4. nbohr1more

      nbohr1more

      Yes. LOL.

Suprisingly, tdm_lg_split works really well in 1.02. To think of all the extra performance I could've had when playing back then...

  2. Weird pipedream of the day: I wish TDM had AI "arm wrestling" support

So wait, AI vs AI? Or the player gets to challenge the NPC to an, "arms race"?

The player option goes down really hilarious in my head. xD

    3. nbohr1more

      nbohr1more

Oh, now I want both options! LOL! I was thinking of an AI vs AI arm wrestling contest with other AI gathered around watching them.

  3. Whew. Behind Closed Doors now has EFX reverb. The list grows. :)

  4. I added an EFX reverb column to the missions wiki. (No pressure...) :)

I would personally love an A to Z tut. I still might have a guy set for doing my FM soundtrack so having extra knowledge to arm all the select audio bits would be wonderful.

    3. demagogue

      demagogue

The Location System is technically mentioned in the context of a blurb saying the ambient sound system exists. (I remember because I wrote it!) But not everything it does. It's a bit complicated for an intro tutorial, but if many people think it's important enough, maybe we can have section just for it and add the ambient sound & EFX.

Yes to stgatilov and Epifire, we're talking about fidcal's tutorial if you didn't catch it: http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=A_-_Z_Beginner_Full_Guide_Start_Here!

  5. Unexpectedly image_downSize is no longer broken with Bloom in 2.06. Set to 32 for a stylized cartoon look :)

That's pretty fantastic. I'd almost wanna try playing an FM that way just to see what it's like.

I think it should be provided officially. It's easy to patch via the updater, right ?

Maybe bring it up in the dev forums?

OK. I think I've sorted out the attribution issues. It wasn't as complicated as I thought. Thanks all. (And thanks for the contributions.)

Can't wait. Once 2.06 is out, I need to think of a new intro sequence for my LPs, now that I've switched from Fraps to OBS and Standard to High Definition.

Oh deep joy, lets hope AMD now that they have a better fab process get ahead of intel this time.

    3. kano

      kano

@Epifire: Intel knew about Meltdown more than half a year before it went public. And they probably also knew that fixing it in current chips would cause a performance drop. So, the chip they sold you that runs at Y speed now runs at Y-X speed because of the Meltdown workaround.

      https://www.theverge.com/2018/1/11/16878670/meltdown-spectre-disclosure-embargo-google-microsoft-linux

The disclosure was quite harsh, because the vulnerabilities were rediscovered by independent researcher (from rare some clues in the public).

  10. Accused the wrong culprit. 4757 was the offender.

  11. Anyone have an idea how to address the regression in 4754?

The people who are prosecuting Trump are the same people who helped rig the DNC election against Bernie. 1 + 1 = 2.

    3. AluminumHaste

      AluminumHaste

Bernie was never going to win though, he's too....Canadian lol.

However what happened to him was really fucking shitty but that's politics.

Also, any politician who's guilty of this stuff should be prosecuted and put in jail.

IIRC I think I used my world ambient with falloff for my FM (Patently Dangerous), because I wanted to make out-of-map areas into total black with a blurry boundary.

I found that two files were missing from the Visual Studio solution. Have you ever considered a unified build system like CMake?

    3. nbohr1more

      nbohr1more

It was discussed. We agreed it was a good way forward but whoever merged the changes would need to document all the setup and compile details so it would be seamless for those who do not fiddle with compile infrastructure. Then it was never implemented. We are in a better position now since we already have Dhewm changes in source.

      stumpy

was this after or before valve removed 600 objects from the game. (Done by valve to make hl2 compatible for xbox, but pc game got the nerf as well). max number of object you could have per map was reduced be 600. originally 2400, reduced to 1800 per map.

Did you read it? Almost all other places are censoring DNC topics. Name a place where I can read about DNC controversies and I'll gladly switch. T_D covers terrorist attacks and all sorts of censored material that isn't available in David Brock's 1984 news universe.

    4. nbohr1more

      nbohr1more

Understood. You won't read a detailed technical breakdown of document forensics because it came from a partisan source. C'est la vie.
