  1. Just want to get a sense of the current server performance since I haven't had to manually intervene for around a week.

Is it feeling better, or is anyone still running into issues?

  2. Anyone here played the Forgotten City? So far, it seems really nice, but it's horribly unstable. Frequently crashes to desktop. It's annoying!

Oh yeah I remember playing this years ago and enjoying it. It reminded me of the style and feel of Fallout, but in ancient Rome. I did wind up finishing it, but remember there were a few odd game continuity issues, but able to get around them by referencing forums, etc.

  3. I love playing The Dark Mod when it's cold in my place. Bonus points when it's a bit (or even very) dark and it's raining, too.

Yep a well done MOD is extremely immersive, especially if mimicking your real life environment.

Very effective. There's Thief fans there admitting they never heard of TDM, and now they are trying it. So excellent.

  5. Anyone have a copy of the old training_demo.pk4 "timedemo benchmark"? I cannot find it in my old files collection.

If you know it was on a current site, you can try archive.org to see if they have it cached in a past snapshot.

  6. While I am someone who finds Star Wars to be entertainment for little boys (and those aren't even my words, they come from Ewan McGregor), I have to say that "The Mandorian" and "The Book of Boba Fett" contain scenes and insights that I enjoy. Also, these series really have an 80's flair...plus it's nice to see for example Nick Nolte, Carl Weather, Jennifer Beals, Deany Trejo or the (admittedly much younger) Katee Sackhoff in these series.

Yes, yet a slight no. Ahsoka is MEGA HUGE in the world of Star Wars, actually in just about everything canonical beyond the movies. She a primary character in all 7 years of Clone Wars series as Padawan Jedi and General Skywalkers' apprentice, and then as a background character in Star Wars Rebels leading into the side story surrounding Grand Admiral Thrawn, who could possibly be the villain in the new Ahsoka series, much like Cad Bane was a (new, yet not really new) villain in Book of Boba Fett.

BTW don't think the animated series are a reason to not watch. These shows, aka Clone Wars, Rebels, Bad Batch, are definitely not goofy Saturday Morning cartoon fare, but rather serious, provoking, character driven series that fill in the many questions arising from storyline and timeline gaps in the movies.

I will agree partially on your suggestion that Star Wars is for kids. I'll point out that the original Star Wars A New Hope fits that more than anything. When it came out it was a hokey, campy, golly gee whiz bang space cowboy movie that was a rolling fun time for the family.

However, when Empire Strikes Back and beyond arrived, it began to be major space opera style story telling with more mythology and more character depth. It got much more serious, beginning the good vs evil parallels, father/son relations, inner conflicts, politics and economics, war, betrayal, etc, and yet still kept it marginally fun family fare, aka cute droids, Ewoks, Hermit Yoda, Jar Jar, and stormtroopers who can't hit any targets.

So yeah after that when Mandalorian came out, guess what, Baby Yoda brings all the comedy and cuteness back, and its' crazy merchandise engine that appeals to kids again. Boba Fett not as much, but he was a likable enough character being a scoundrel with a bit of a heart.

I look forward to watching Andor and Ahsoka when it comes. I hear Andor is good but if it's anything like Rogue One, it will be a serious, gritty show with little to appeal to the kids.

  8. It's funny how perception changes over the years. I've been replaying Bioshock in its Remastered version, and I'm surprised how bad the level design actually is. It's just a series of abstract corridor mazes that you can't really map out in your head. There's nothing that would ground them in any kind of reality, fictional or otherwise, no sense of place people could live in. It's almost like Wolfenstein 3d with cool art deco assets.

This is true for me. I remember in the 90's playing Tomb Raider 2, 3 & 4, NOLF 1 & 2, Oni, Urban Chaos, at work to pass the time and couldn't get enough of these games,. feeling totally immersed in the environments. I could barely be interested in them now because of far superior and sprawling level design today, the elimination of lower pixilation, as well as abilities that are granted that didn't used to be, aka deep crafting and carrying systems. Strangely enough though, the early Thief games do actually have compelling gameplay 20-25 years later, even more so than their later releases, probably solely for the storyline, incredible diversity of maps, and timeless stealth mechanics play.

  9. Anyone here played Inscryption? At first, I was like "no, I am not going to play a stupid card game", but this game is so much more than that. It is so meta, full of 4th wall breaks, and feels so damn spooky and weird because of it. Absolutely recommended, if you can stand the visuals. I recommend not reading up too much on it, as that could easily spoil half the incredible surprises. Just know that what you see in the beginning is by far not everything.

I downloaded the GOG demo and while I don't really have any idea what I'm doing yet, it's very cool and compelling and creepy. and recommended to try. Still getting used to how I have to sacrifice certain cards to play others.

  10. Since the disrupting of #Twitter by a crazy ego-distopic-manic-dangerous-billionaire and meta-shit by Zuck is not an option (because it's *exactly* the same thing), are any of you or the TDMproject in some free and open #Mastondon or #fediverse server ?

How do you guys find the ease and functionality of Mastodon in comparison to Twitter? How is a different?

Absolutely. A few ppl have some announced yet unfinished beta missions in the works now. Curious if those are moving along or just stalled. But yea, a contest. Maybe a winter theme around this upcoming holidays time.

  12. Don't you hate it when there's a quality discussion on a forum somewhere online about something, but then two disagreeing users derail and transform it into a back-and-forth poo slinging competition at one another?

Terribly annoying. Forums need to be moderated well to keep the content on the subject matter, just like this forum here!  😍

  13. Boris Johnson's resignation does not change the fact that Australia is home to 29 million kangaroos and Wales has a population of just over three million.

If the Australian kangaroos were to invade Wales, one resident would have to fight almost ten kangaroos at a time.

They say Noah's Ark was never found after the waters receded. If they ever find it, perfect kangaroo cruise ship. Problem solved.

  14. Deathloop – what a mess of a game. I'd love to see a post-mortem on it some day. I hope Arkane is doing okay though.

Thanks to this thread I am currently playing Deathloop. Have to say I am enjoying it very much, but I can see where it turns people off. The bad first: Yes it's repetitive and enemies respawn, annoying to have to encounter/kill the same baddies over and over. It is a time loop game, so that part is to be expected. Perhaps the back and forth between times of day and revisiting areas once you find info or codes in other areas can be too much backtracking for some. The good: It feels just like Dishonored with a No One Lives Forever candy and bubble gum pop vibe. That's a definite plus. Mooncrash will be next to play for a real comparison.

  15. Be honest: Who of you have actually finished Cuphead? This game is freaking tough! It might even be harder than Sekiro. Dark Souls is a joke in comparison to Cuphead! :-D

    1. Shadow

      Shadow

Cuphead is one of the toughest games you can play. The bossfights are absolute insanity. I did finish it, but not without cheating. It was a beautiful game and worth a play tho, if only to put cocky bragging gamers in their place.

I saw this and immediately wanted them to work on a Thief 5. Pipedream probably. I think Fleetwood Mac has more of a chance letting Lindsay Buckingham back in that we getting a Thief 5.
