  1. I just updated from 2.06 to 2.07on fedora 28 linux and I lost "lighting"... I'm pretty much in the dark all the time (sometimes light gem flickers). I have an old Radeon 5700 something, and I have a feeling I'm hitting up against this bug... I'm not savvy enough to follow what you guys are talking about, but the lighting sources have a "circle/halo" of light around them and that's it. I deleted everything and redownloaded from anew and same thing.
  2. i vote for reality. I suspect you have reasons why you don't want that... that's ok if it's explained somehow.
  3. Yeah, a single note played on an accordion could do that. It's effectively done.
  4. The jump-to-grab is a common problem for players. What helps is to aim for what you want to grab at, at the exact center of the screen, and jump at it (pressing forward also, just jumping up may or may not get you close enough to the "grab point"). Mantling works great for things at a certain height, but for higher grabs, you'll need to jump at it.

Got this error when darkmod tried to "update" the new pk4: Sys_Error: Couldn't get file info for startingmap.txt in /games/darkmod/fms/briarwood_manor/briarwood_manor.pk4, pos 95846748 About to exit with code 1 I deleted the whole fm and reinstalled it... that seemed to be clean, but still can reproduce the newspaper focus bug in this one too (v1.7).   6. Hmmm... i've been downloading/updated from here: http://www.thedarkmod.com/missiondetails/?id=118 but both links are at v1.65 I only tested one, but it had the bug. Is there a better place to download missions?
  7. Possible bug?... When I "frob" the newspaper in the bathroom across from the kitchen, nothing happens (the paper isn't displayed) I can no longer "frob/right click" anything and am stuck in the toilet. I'm on linux if it matters (fedora 28, latest darkmod 2.06).
  8. TL;DR use evrouter I recently decided to try to get some of the extra buttons on my mouse to do various darkmod actions in linux (Fedora 28). Darkmod does not notice them when you try to make a shortcut within the game. I initially tried xbindkeys and xautomation (xte). This worked in the terminal but not in fullscreen (presumadly, xbindkeys needs a window focus), so I tried evrouter which does work. 1. add your userid to the "input" group to read the appropriate event device files in /dev/input/by-id/* # gpasswd -a userid input In my case I needed these two device files to notice all buttons: /dev/input/by-id/usb-Logitech_G300s_Optical_Gaming_Mouse-event-mouse /dev/input/by-id/usb-Logitech_G300s_Optical_Gaming_Mouse-if01-event-kbd 2. use evrouter to show you the button press/event it sees when you press your mouse button: $ evrouter --dump /dev/input/by-id/* there will be a line that says "fill this in". place this line in ~/.evrouterrc and replace the "fill this in" with the appropriate key syntax... I have "g" mapped to zoom scope so that is "XKey/g". e.g. "Logitech G300s Optical Gaming Mouse" "/dev/input/by-id/usb-Logitech_G300s_Optical_Gaming_Mouse-event-mouse" none key/275 "XKey/g" add any other buttons/events as wanted to .evrouterrc 3. run evrouter on the appropriate dev files. e.g. $ evrouter /dev/input/by-id/usb-Logitech_G300s_Optical_Gaming_Mouse-event-mouse /dev/input/by-id/usb-Logitech_G300s_Optical_Gaming_Mouse-if01-event-kbd 4. play darkmod with extra button support 5. profit
  9. I was in middle school at the time (so probably around 11 years old?). I had a Commodore 128 and also spent much time typing in those peeks and pokes and data numbers from the back of magazines. I look back in nostalgia (one was a simple baseball game!) but that particular experience was positively awful for learning in hindsight. (or maybe not, it does demand attention to detail and perseverance). On the other hand, the C128 came with a manual (remember them?) which taught you Commodore Basic and the use of the built-in sprite maker. I'd make simple "demos" and dream about cracking games. heh.
  10. If you're proficient in a programming language, you should start with that. Otherwise, in my opinion, the specific programming language doesn't matter. Just have a good book to be the mentor instead. The real goal should be personal exploration of creativity and any real programming language will suffice with that.
  11. thief 2 will always be in my list of favourites, but I'll put forth with what I "wasted" a lot of my time with in my youth: quake 2 and my favourite mod: king of the server. I've been told it might still be around but i'm "over the hill" for that stuff now. ;P. It had an online shop you could spend "points from kills in deathmatch" upgrading your weapons and types of abilities (flying/cloaking/etc). Thinking about it now brings a smile to my face.
  12. I do both, with shooting slightly above a bit more I think, only because I read that somewhere when I first started. I will say, it is a bit annoying when a torch you directly hit keeps burning bright as day . Personally, I always felt this was "backwards"; a showering dispersed water from above I would think has more of a chance to "miss" the flame than a concentrated direct hit. It's not a big thing either way though. The tdm water arrow showering effect is definitely cool feature.
  13. I've been making my way slowly through the older missions and had to just post and say this was a cool break. No one seemed to mention the book of numbers, but I got the message. Very cool Jesps if your still around.

  15. Got it. Thank you. This is very helpful. I found out that loading a saved game overrides the maps original values, so the s_volume changes I made weren't taking. *slaps forehead* A lot of the s_volumes in heart are set to positive values and chapel, as said, is way up at 33, and does use the classname "speaker". Setting it to -10 worked once I restarted the map.... much better. So I guess this is just incorrect values being set in the map itself. I'm assuming I'm hitting the same issue in other maps as I'm playing through some older content first. thanks!

  17. After a few more tests, the ambient volume slider does seem to work. It's just only for some "sounds/music" but not others, which is what probably confused me. I haven't found a way to reduce the chapel music which is quite jarring.
  18. This is an older pc... I'm on linux (fedora 24) and onboard realtek ALC662 "6-Channel" HD Audio. I gave a shot at looking in the pk4 and found the sound file for the chapel: "gregorian03_loop" and set the "s_volume" down to "-10" from "33" just to see what would happen... I didn't notice any difference at all, but I don't know what I'm doing. I did notice that lowering ambient volume to 0 does lower the volume a bit, but it's not zero... and, afaict, didn't affect the chapel music at all.
  19. Hello all, I've just played through a few missions for the first time (bundled ones and 3/4 of thief's den series) on version 2.05. This is a blast! On my system certain music is really loud. It seems to be the "looping" track music stuff for some reason. The ambient slider doesn't seem to do anything and the main sfx volume does work but it scales everything down. I'm currently running it with sfx turned down but it isn't ideal. I noticed it most egregiously in the Chapel Room in Thief's Den 3: Heart of the Lone Salvation. It is deafening with headphones on. Is this a known issue? Or only my system?
