  1. "snd_sewer", or "snd_keep", which is more awesome? They are both so great! "snd_commons" is used a bit too frequently though...

I'll be back in a wile guys, I gotta back up a couple of these 6 TB drives using Blu-ray disks. We seriously need bigger optical media to match these HDDs in terms of capacity.

  5. Anyone interested in buying a copy of Doom 3?

Bah, Doom 3 isn't a bad game. Hell, if you're a classic Doom fan, make sure you check out Classic Doom for Doom 3. The coop was fun, but I think its a ghost town now.

  6. I frequently hear people street racing in the middle of the night. Last night, I'm laying there at about 2 AM. I hear somebody go racing by again... but then I hear a siren blare and another engine rev up after them. All I was able to do was laugh. I hope the guy got busted...

  8. The joy of Steam: can't play Deus Ex: HR without a net connection since the saves are stored on their cloud. Yaaaaay.

@NH, I agree with you, but consumers are losing this battle as we speak. Also, some games have freaking huge save files. Saving to the cloud in that case will take a long time unless it does it in the background while you keep playing. My Nameless mod Saves dir is 1.3 GB!

I never even finished Quake 4 because I got REALLY far and formatted my HDD/reinstalled without remembering to preserve my saves. I haven't bothered to play all the way back through, and cheating to get there still seems wrong.

I've been meaning to get a used copy of DXHR for my X360. I was offline for a few days recently (dead modem) and thankfully I had plenty of Doom WADs to play. Good old Doom: an endless supply of levels, mappers using cool tricks like knocking the power out on a level (lights go out) and the puzzles are fun to figure out.

  11. Got my PC infected with malware and can't get rid of it via antivir. Time for formatting my drives. \o/

What's weird is, even though this is a single-port modem, it has the functionality of a router (NAT). I guess its cheaper for the company to build modems and routers around the same chipset/software stack and then just rip out the extra ports/wifi radio for those of us who don't want the router version.

Well, my DSL modem crapped out the other day. I had to replace it. That's the second modem I've had die in a decade. The first time, it didn't completely fail, it just slowed down a lot, causing me to blame the ISP.

  13. Its funny how the AI in most games are idiots when it comes to throwing grenades. They frequently blow themselves up instead of the target. Today in Deus Ex though, I was impressed when an AI chucked a LAM right into my hiding position.

When I think "bouncy grenades", I think of Doom 3. The grenades in that game were basically like those rubber superballs.

It does seem like it would be a hard task to code grenade throwing for AI though in games because of all the variables. How high is the ceiling? Are there any characters or obsticles in the way, and how far away are they?

  15. I installed Windows 95 the other day in DosBOX, but I cannot make the (experimental) 3dfx voodoo simulation work... darn.

  16. The Bridgeport Museum is proud to anounce that it will be opening it's doors to the public on the 6th of September. IMPORTANT NOTE: The Bridgeport Museum is only open during daylight hours. At all other times it is locked and will be guarded by our vigilant guards. We stongly advise against breaking in

  17. x-girlfriend called me FIVE times yesterday, and already once this morning (8AM). She wants to get back together. I have lost track of how many times she has changed her mind in the past. She's older than I am, and yet she still hasn't figured out that this whole thing is a joke.

  18. OMG. I just had the most disturbing, most visceral experience I've ever had playing a video game. Walking Dead game spoilers ahead.

  21. While beta-testing 2.0 with NHAT2, I knocked out three guards near the tavern and left them in the light. Another guard walks by, right over the bodies and mutters "quiet shift"... lol

  22. What do you do when a girl you like thinks designing computer game levels is for sad freaks with no life?

    1. lost_soul

      lost_soul

And hey, you're doing something constructive. You're using your mind, being creative, learning skills that can land you a job, and entertaining complete strangers like me with every mission release. Us players have a certain respect for the mappers, especially those of us who have actually *tried* mapping before.

  23. I made myself a private Icecast radio station, which takes sound sent to a "dummy" sound card and streams it to my phone-sized tablet. This way, I can have "wireless" headphones that don't use analog FM technology. FM wireless headphones have terrible SNR, but this setup sounds great!

  24. Ever been playing a game, and the NPCs in a "public" level flip out and start attacking eachother, even when they're not supposed to? I saw that today and it was funny as hell. Oddly enough they still did not attack me.
