If the other two missions play, I would try downloading this mission again. Also, make sure that you do not have any modification packages installed ( stealth add-on, flame glare mod, fresnel mod, etc ).

Re-downloading the mission worked.  Thanks, nbohr1more!

  2. I'm unable to play this mission.

After the briefing video and being given the choice of Easy, Medium, or Hard difficulty, it briefly says "Generating World" and then immediately returns to the main menu (Start this mission, ... Quit)

    From darkmod.log:

    [/game/darkmodglobals.cpp ( 372):INI (INIT) FR:    0] The Dark Mod 2.10/64, code revision 9815 (1435:9815)

    (then several entries, ending in:)

    [/game/darkmodglobals.cpp ( 428):FRC (FORCE) FR:    0] LogClass_STATE: 0

Has anyone seen this error before?  If not, what should I do to get you more info?

I played the other two Contest missions (Down and Out on Newford Road and Hazard Pay) without any difficulty.  (I was spastic trying to install the beta (I tried to load the latest /dev build at first, which didn't work) and because it wouldn't go to other versions from there, I had to delete all of DarkMod, reinstall to 2.09b, and then installed Beta 2.10 V5; after that, I played the other two contest missions without difficulty.)

  3. This came up with in the TDM Mission Beta Testing forum.

I'm a mission player, not an author, but I'm posting this on behalf of mission author grayman as well as my fellow play-testers.

William Steele 6: Baleford Museum is the mission we are currently beta-testing.

    Spoiler

The mission ends with the protagonist being gassed by the Hammerites as he attempts to follow one of them; and the next mission (William Steele 7: The Builder's Forge) starts with the protagonist escaping from a prison cell.

Because the ending of William Steele 6 is a unhappy ending, the author chose to end the mission with a "Time Passes" (and "William Steele's Story continues in Mission 7") message and there's no option for the player to get a list of mission statistics (amount of loot collected, the stealth score).

My request (which I believe grayman agrees with, since grayman suggested I post here) is: Provide a way for mission authors to have an "less than happy ending" option where at the end of a mission, there's an option to go look at the mission statistics, but without the happy music and the imagery of piles of loot.

Side note: Wesp5 noted he has an unofficial patch that provides the ability for players to look at statistics at any time: https://www.moddb.com/members/wesp5/addons/the-dark-mod-unofficial-patch

Please someone to help me. I don't know how to solve this '' Find out what happened to the Citadel of Enlightenment''.

I've tried everything but still I'm missing something.

Have you made it into the chapel yet?  (Not the main citadel, the small chapel off it.)  If not, you have other things to do before you can satisfy this objective.

If you have made it into the chapel,

don't rush to the altars - instead,  look at the benches right in front of you at the entrance.  You'll find the relevant readable and a key.

I'm playing on Expert, and I'm in the Citadel. I've got the parchment obtained

      Hide contents

    by using the 4 bones.

I've been in the Court but cannot get in the Quarters or Prison. Any hints please?

I was in pretty close to the same place and stuck because I didn't realize there were four wide doors instead of two in the main hall,

and a certain room had levers to open 3 of 'em.

(Thanks to tapewolf for the hint that helped me along.)

    A few suggestions:

    * I assume you need a key to open the prison.  By continual searching I did ultimately find the prison key (as well as a readable telling you what you need to find in the prison).  The lock is almost invisible on the left side of the door.

    * Search the library for readables.  You'll need 'em.

    * Once you get as many readables as possible, you'll eventually need to solve the puzzles

in the room downstairs with the multiple towers (where the protagonist says, "Hmmm... An interesting mechanism.")

There are readables telling you what you need to do here and giving hints for

the four saints whose portraits are in the middle of the room

I was able to solve it on my own in one evening although I didn't believe it at first, given that I had all necessary readables.  This will give you a key you need to move the plot forward.  (Once you solve it, enjoy the happy music... you're basically done with puzzles, you're just going to be avoiding undead - some really scary - for the rest of the main mission.)

By the way, this was a very impressive mission!  😀

    Hint

Search for an electrical device that is meant to provide fresh air and behaves differently compared to the identical devices installed everywhere else in the station.

First of all, thank you, that worked, and after much fiddling around in the caves I got in the temple and got to the citadel and I'm now exploring the citadel.

    Spoiler

What does the "Mysterious key" open?  Similarly, where is the key to the "Quarters" area?

And, where is the cube I'm supposed to turn in certain directions to get into the chapel?  (I've been to the court area, the prison area, and the giant library area.)

By removing the explosive device you have completed the relevant objective from the list. The passage through the air lock is now possible without failing the mission (=blowing up the station).

    I'm equally dumb-dumb.

    Spoiler

I recognize what I think is the electrical item that has the bomb (the device with two spheres sticking up, to the left of the airlock - the device with two displays whose pointers are wildly going back and forth) but I move all around it and try to frob things but I can't frob anything.  What device am I supposed to pick up and where do I take it, to disarm the bomb???  (I don't think it's the lantern in the room because irregardless of where the lantern is, those pointers keep wildly tilting back and forth.)

Please give me a hint before I go crazy.  Thank you!

    Also, I found secret 5...

    Spoiler

In the room near your house (where there's a diary by someone who's been watching you), look carefully for another button/switch.

The front gate is the way to exit. The Front Gate key is in different locations, depending on the difficulty. For 'middle' difficulty, there are two Front Gate keys available: 1) in the Guards Quarters, on top of one of the cabinets, and 2) in one of the Vestries (the one that doesn't have the clock), on the floor to the left of the desk. Either one of those keys will unlock the front gate, and then you'll be able to finish the mission.

The key to the sewer storage door is hanging on a nail in the wall, across from the locked door (not directly across, but close). It's located above a mushroom should you should be able to see it?

That was the information I needed; I had not seen any of those keys until you pointed out their locations.  Thank you.  Great mission!  ?

      - prjames

  10. I'm stuck at the very end.  I'm playing the "middle" difficulty level and have completed all other objectives thanks to the hints at the start of this thread.

The final objective says to exit via the Front Gate.  None of the keys I have unlock the front gate.  Also, although I managed to take the back way between the Green Room and the door to the storage room in the sewers, I also never found a key to that door.  Is the front gate the way to exit?  Or am I supposed to exit some other way?   (Also, this problem doesn't change whether or not I cleanse the heart on the way out - it just changes the nature of the enemies I face.  ?)

  11. Need a couple hints - playing at Normal difficulty.

Where are AppleFinger's (the Pagan guy's) funds?

How do I incapacitate Gilbert?  (I assume he's the guy in Hammer-land not dressed like the others, who was constantly walking between his room and the little shrine before I blackjacked him.

    ?

  12. I am about 6 hours into it.

    Got the task to

exhume the 5 skulls and do a ritual.

    Made it to the

cemetary, but found nothing but 5 candles.

So, I concluded that I need a shovel and crept back to the workshop. To no avail as the equipment there is not meant to be picked up.

    What am I missing?

Do you have the cellar key? If not, go and find that. (There's discussion earlier in this thread on that.)

Assuming you have the cellar key, use it (the door is something like what you see in the middle of a ship to access the goods below, not a small door) and go down. Your sneaking abilities will be challenged. Your goal is to get to a corner far away where there are bodies in coffins - the shovel (or decapitation device as noted earlier) you need will be there as well.

    Hope this helps!

  13. Oh dear, it supposed to be north EAST, just in the corner of accessible area. I'm sorry for this misleading mistake :excl: .

I make it harder that it should be, shame on me.

Thanks for the help, that allowed me to finish at Normal difficulty.

Clearly I got my stealthiness training in getting those heads with the big baddies marching about and nothing I could really do to fight them.

    - prjames

  14. OK, now I'm stuck because I need a hint.

I've reached the point in the plot where it tells me to find a key to the cellars and that the horseman went northwest. I found the horseman's trailer (with it's holy water potion) but no sign of a horse, a dead horseman, or a key. I've searched the immediate area, but haven't found anything else of interest. (I did find the graveyard farther away, and the guillotine farther north.)

    Help!

    - prjames

  15. OK, I have a bug.

I made it to the house and to the floor with beds, kitchen, etc. I explored most of the floor, finding the map, then returned to the bed by the staircase you come down. I click frob and the dream starts.

I see a tunnel, the disembodied lantern and the pick axe go a short ways down the tunnel and then I see the shadows of whatever creature is right in front of my point of view go back and forth, back and forth, forever. I cannot click on anything to end the dream; eventually, I must CTRL-ALT-DEL and kill Dark Mod.

UPDATE: I tried again. This problem appears to only happen when I choose the bed just north then west of the stairs. If you choose a different bed (the one at the other end of that room, or go south to a big empty room then east to a bed in a room with other purposes), the dream runs normally and ends properly. I am no longer stuck.

I am running Dark Mod 2.07 and have had no other problems other than the missing music at the main menu mentioned earlier.

  16. Any hints

where I should look for the secret accounts ?

    And where's the key

    for the armoury cage ?

    Can't help

    with the armory cage.

    For

    secret accounts:

Near the bar is a long corridor leading to the lord himself and a priest by a fireplace with their backs to you. The lord has a key on him.

Use that key upstairs where there is a door marked "Do not disturb" or similar.

In that room, lift the bust on the desk to find a button underneath, after using that button, look at the ceiling. The ladder that just opened leads to an area with the book you're seeking.

  17. I'm playing at hard difficulty, and I'm stuck.

I have five keys, front door, parlor, master bedroom, dining room, and lobby. There's a stairway that leads to a room that leads to a catwalk above the room with the really difficult guard. Opposite that catwalk is a door, clearly to several bedrooms and the latter part of the mission. Where is the key to that door? Also, where is the key that unlocks the Crown in the art gallery?

    Thanks in advance!

  18. Great mission so far, but I'm stuck.

i've drank the first of the phials and teleported to an area where there's a teenager trying to get away from his uncle.

    I've

found the hidden key and escaped to the outside of the house, and I've found enough loot (playing at easy difficulty) to satisfy the loot objective.

I'm still trying to get these objectives:

Escape from the effects of the phials

    Get this inheritance

    Find something really valuable.

What do I do next? Thanks in advance!

    Also, I think I found a bug.

In the room in this world which is (I guess) the kid's bedroom with a ship's wheel on the wall, if you frob the obvious book under the bed, you lose the ability to switch weapons or do anything with your inventory.

  19. Folks,

I figured out the earlier puzzles I had difficulty with. Got one more hint request:

How do I open the way to the Lady Rowena memorial area?

    - prjames

NEVER MIND - I figured it out shortly after I posted it.

Go to the left of the Hammer temple, back there, a high statue you must mantle your way to has her right eye replaced by a button... once pressed, go to the right of the Hammer temple and a panel has opened... watch out for traps...
