  1. I don't think The Last of Us part I is a good game; it is something else in terms of pure audio-visual experience though. The attention to detail is insane, especially in sound and animation.

How is The Last of Us if you play only stealth ?

  3. It's funny how perception changes over the years. I've been replaying Bioshock in its Remastered version, and I'm surprised how bad the level design actually is. It's just a series of abstract corridor mazes that you can't really map out in your head. There's nothing that would ground them in any kind of reality, fictional or otherwise, no sense of place people could live in. It's almost like Wolfenstein 3d with cool art deco assets.

What kind of level design should new Bioshock franchise invent? Open, connected world?

What kind of level design you find better/superior?

  5. Finished Deathloop yesterday. My verdict:

Arkane Studios showing off once again that they are one of the best in game design: Pick the timeloop mystery adventure mechanics of Outer Wilds and remix them, add "Dark Souls"-like invasions in the form that other players can play your antagonist Juliana, and wrap it all in 60s-stylized first person shooter with abilities and upgrades, and an interesting story to unravel. This culminates in such a unique gameplay experience that "Deathloop" would have deserved Game of the Year 2021 WAY more than "It Takes Two". Especially the invasions add so much tension to your playthroughs, it is absolutely exhilarating. That is, unless your opponent lags incredibly, which sadly happens quite often. Combine this with the performance issues many players experienced, and you know why the game did not win game of the year. It is really sad to see technical issues hinder such a masterpiece of a game from doing well. The only criticism I have with respect to gameplay is that the first shot of any weapon is apparently always 100% accurate, which enables you to headshot enemies hundreds of meters away using your submachine gun, but other than that the gun play is on point. All in all, just 9/10 due to technical issues.

I wonder why Arkane is not using id tech 7 which is running Doom Eternal since is far better optimized.

  6. I find it alarming that 5 missions with 2.10-only elements take 15% of space among all 158 released missions.

I recently expresed opinion for TDM to rewrite as RBDOOM-3-BFG PBR but later I've found out that baked global illumination using irradiance volumes adds about 2.5GB of lightmap space. This would add even more extra weight. So please disregards my opinion for TDM RBD. Can models and textures be replaced with formats of smaller size?

  7. The final solution for low-end GPUs:

    r_skibSubviews 1

    r_skipInteractions 1

    r_shadows 0

    r_ambientMinLevel 0.6

    tdm_lg_interleave  0

If you don't get 60 fps after this then either your CPU is really slow or it's a map bug

EDIT. tdm_lg_interleave is probably not required since r_skibSubviews supersedes it.

What does r_skipSubviews and r_skipInteractions mean?
