  1. Thank you for this mission, kingsal. I greatly enjoyed it. This mission was a perfect re-introduction to Thief for me. I haven't played anything Thief in probably about a year, so I was worried I'd be terribly rusty. Thankfully I wasn't! I was able to successfully play Hard (chosen due to my expected rustiness) with no KOs (which says a lot, as I've always been a 'stack up the unconscious bodies then run around freely' type of player). I DID miss quite a bit of loot, though I was able to get well over the requirement. I look forward to the continuation of the story. I'm intrigued.
  2. Wow. Oh sweet Builder, my brain is so very frazzled, yet in a most pleasing way. Nearly 4 hours of my husband trying not to laugh at me as I have Bolen cowering in a corner... I'm proud of my Stealth score of 17, gained by being an exceedingly careful nervous wreck. I might have missed nearly 3000 loot, but I'm happy to have Thank you, Moonbo. I am greatly looking forward to your future missions! I'm just not sure if I should hope that they do not contain the same terrors as this one, or if I should be worried about what else you might choose to scare us with. ...and now to have a nice calming cup of tea in a well lit room.
  3. I might have had the crash/lockup issue, but I was easily able to skip what caused the problem, and I never had any slow downs or other issues at all. I really have no complaints in this area, even if I did have the crash. (Such things happen. It didn't prevent me from playing the mission at all.) The only issue I can say that I had was the same as some others have said- difficulty finding the last bits of some objectives. For me, it was loot, and I had to scour the place repeatedly to find enough to make up for the last 35 I needed. (And of course, after swimming around and roaming hallways repeatedly and futilely, I found a sizable object I could have sworn I tried to collect before- twice!- but somehow hadn't gotten close enough to actually pick up... or something... and it was worth 150. Still a bit short of max, but good enough.) Besides that, though, more readables would have been nice, to help cement the background story, but I did get a sense of the story from the ones I found. But I still loved the mission. Why? The non-linearity. I cannot express how much this means to me. I'm an explorer. More than anything, I'm an explorer. I might get tired treading and re-treading ground I've already covered five or more times, but being able to cover as much ground as I was able to, via as many routes as were available, made my heart sing. And there were secrets. ("Secrets!", she whispered quietly to herself with a grin and eyes alight with glee.) Oh how I wish for code as in the Thief games to track secrets, but for them to be there at all makes me so very, very happy. Thank you, ERH+ (and Bikerdude!). I eagerly look forward to future FMs!
  4. Not sure if you just want basic specs, so I'll just toss a few out: Intel Core i5-2500k @3.30GHz, Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti, Windows 7 x64, 8GB Ram The game locks up/stops responding. I have to hit the windows key to bring up the screen that gives me a list of options including bringing up task manager as CTRL+ALT+DEL does nothing. The 'error message' is just the generic pop-up 'application has stopped responding' one, and attempting to shut down the game ('end the process') by selecting that option on the pop-up also does nothing. I just avoided going near the things and especially attempting to use any of them and I was able to continue on fine, though. Well, except now I'm spending way too much time trying to find the last 35 loot I need to be able to finish the mission. Arrrrrgh.
  5. I'm REALLY loving this mission, but I've come across a game-crashing issue (which I might be able to sneak past). In the hallway I'm not sure if it's due to me attempting to pick one up, or just me getting too close. I'm going to try just to slip past and avoid the issues totally, but I thought I'd point out that it's a potential problem. Also, I read really fast and I had no idea the briefing continued. Oops. The only other questionable thing is the keys labeled as (pulling from memory, I might be off) #str_0039 (or some such). 2 of the 6 or so keys I have at the moment are labeled as such, while the others have actual names (brass key, old chest key, etc.) Were these oddly numbered keys supposed to actually have names? Anyway, I'm off to attempt to slip past the aforementioned issue and continue on. I absolutely love the multitude of routes in this mission!
  6. As a player (of games in general, so not all my recommendations might be fitting for TDM as I have no experience modding), I find maps very helpful, as I'm often prone to getting turned around. It's not so important HOW I get the map, though. If it's a location I could know of beforehand, or it would be reasonable to find out the layout beforehand, then I feel I should start with at least a basic map. If knowing the location's layout would be helpful but not 'well duh of course I scoped the layout' then buying it from the shop would be nice (but please don't overcharge for the map unless doing so makes sense). If it's not in the shop, then being able to pick it up in-game relatively early in is also great. I'm also a BIG fan of 'drawing the map in as I go along', if it's a brand new location I could never possibly get a map of beforehand, or of adding more detail to a basic map I had from the beginning. Whether this is the game itself updating my map, or me adding notes into it, (or both!) matters not, but I like map updating. What I love most, however, is the automap highlight system. As I said in my very first sentence, I'm prone to getting turned around, and absolutely nothing helps me center myself and fit the layout into my brain as well as seeing the location I'm in highlight and change as I move around. It's by far what I miss the most on TDM maps.
  7. (A lot of this will also cover how I play T1/T2 FMs, so if I seem to have answered in a way that's not as fitting for TDM, it's because I'm mentally on the T1/T2 track.) I voted 'knock everyone out' but I don't, not really. I'm very, VERY fond of my blackjack, yes, but I don't go out of my way to knock people out and if I feel it's an NPC who won't get in my way much, or if I don't know if I will be able to hide the unconscious body well, they'll be left standing. I've matured in this in TDM, as in T1/T2 I would gleefully BJ darn near everyone, just to run around the map carefree. I quicksave fairly often, and hard save whenever I feel I'm at a 'major point', but that's mostly to soothe my own nerves so that I know I have something 'in case of emergency' (falling to my death or something). I never, ever kill, unless it's required by the game (or unless it's a spider), though if the game's story were to make me hate an NPC enough I would probably consider killing them a 'bonus objective' I gave myself, so I won't discount the possibility. (I give myself my own 'bonus objectives' a lot, depending on the story.) I hoard my tools and only use them when absolutely necessary, and by 'them' I mean the various arrow types as I cannot recall the last time in the past couple of years that I've used a mine or flashbomb. I've become even stingier in TDM than I ever was in T1/T2.
  8. When I started playing TDM, I was using an ATI 4870. I'm now using (and voted in this poll as using) an NVidia 560Ti. I have had no problems whatsoever with the NVidia, with no need to tweak or tinker with settings (it's been gorgeous!), and the ATI I did have to tinker a bit with (especially disabling Catalyst AI), but once I'd done some really simple stuff, it was grand as well.
  9. I do believe I found that. I found that...but that had nothing to do with which is what made me go ... o.O ... O.o ... and ask for a spoiler. Am I still missing something?
  10. I really enjoyed this one! As much as I truly love 'epic story' FMs, what drew me into Thief in the first place was sneaking into someone's mansion and robbing them blind. This was perfect for that. The intro was great: I wound up 166 shy on loot, and browsing this thread I have to ask... Thanks for an enjoyable FM, Sotha, and I wish you a relaxing break, but hope that it won't be too terribly long before you're back and giving us more excellent thieving.
  11. I have been really busy and have not been able to check for driver updates for my motherboard etc., but I did try the atioglxx.dll files you kindly provided... neither did me any good for accessing the FM, sadly. I'm still getting the exact same errors, but whereas before it was always a 'faulting module atioglxx.dll' and rarely a 'faulting module gamex86.dll' visible in Event Viewer, with either of the provided atioglxx files in my base Doom folder (I tried each of them), the game crashes with both of those errors listed. I'll hopefully get to check and see if there's an update for my motherboard drivers soon. And while not exactly for this FM, I have tried a few of the AMD gfx drivers for the other missions I am unable to load with this same problem. I dunno what it is about these few missions that makes my computer choke. I just hope I'll be able to play them, eventually.
  12. Ah hah. Thanks, stumpy! Event Viewer has a whole lot of: Faulting application name: DOOM3.exe, version: 1.0.0.1, time stamp: 0x45ad459a Faulting module name: atioglxx.dll, version: 6.14.10.10151, time stamp: 0x4c58c739 and a (very) few of: Faulting application name: DOOM3.exe, version: 1.0.0.1, time stamp: 0x45ad459a Faulting module name: gamex86.dll, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4be6431b So, it looks like atioglxx.dll is an issue. A quick search online shows that this is an OpenGL problem that has hit quite a few other people in other games, for quite a few years now. It also didn't seem like there was tried-and-true fix for it... ...as I am far from a computer guru, does anyone have good advice?
  13. Don't have a spare gfx card, unless I make my hubby rip his baby out of his system (uh...ain't gonna happen, we have a firm 'don't tinker with each others systems' policy). I'll check on the motherboard drivers! Or, if that doesn't help, I'll just wait until I can ask for a new video card for Christmas, and see if a brand new card does better. Would a DX11-able card give Doom3 any fits...?
  14. ATI Radeon HD 4870, Catalyst 10.8 drivers (same issue occurred with previous drivers, in those other missions that crash). I switched to windowed mode after the first few crashes, to check some things and try the dmap, I just hadn't turned windowed off. nbhor: No, I'm using the drivers off AMD's site. Should I revert to the VisionTek drivers even though I have no issue in any of the (many, many, I'm a junkie) other games I play with no issues?
  15. I'm afraid the picture will give you no more info than 'Doom 3 has stopped working', since I posted this same problem in my previous thread, and it was deemed useless. Here's Windows being its helpful self! Of course, the help it gives is to direct me to id's website, which is no help at all. [sarcasm]Thanks, Windows![/sarcasm] True and honest thanks, though, for that patch! It didn't help here, but it might help prevent some other errors.
  16. Trust me, my system is more than capable of running TDM (all relevant info on my system and everything I've tried is in the link I provided to my previous tussle with trying to get those few missions to run). Quick link to my post in the 'Post your SysConfig here' thread. Aside from Swing (which I will not play due to having severe motion sickness), I have played every other TDM FM listed on the wiki with no problems whatsoever, aside from this one and the 3 listed in my Tech Help thread. Now, one of those missions had a table (a table! eesh) that for some reason my crazy system didn't like, and crashed the game over. I dunno if my computer is just having a fit over something as innocuous as a vase that it simply doesn't like...or what, but it's not a problem getting TDM to run. It's just that there's something about this (and a couple other) FMs that makes my computer shut down Doom3. EDIT: I don't want it to seem that I'm calling your FM out over this. I'm betting it's something completely unexpected...one of those 'works fine for most everyone else' things, and it's just some combo of something on my end that makes my computer choke trying to load it. Like that table, of all things, in Somewhere Above the City (I'm still dumbfounded over that, yes).
  17. I was so excited about playing this, but it seems it's another one of the missions that won't successfully load for me. It starts ok- objective screen, 'mission loading, relax' screen, which changes to 'mission loaded, just chill' and waits....and then 'Doom3 has stopped working' crash. Oh, how I hate that crash. I've seen it before, in The Rift, Somewhere Above the City (which I eventually got to play, after Grayman kindly helped me figure out it was a particular, innocuous table causing my crash there), and Alchemist. As per the instructions given to me in the thread I created about those 3 missions here, I tried to dmap otc, but had no luck (the same crash happened while performing the dmap). Ah well. I know the problem is due to some weird, unexplainable quirk in my system somewhere, but I was really hoping not to run into another mission I couldn't play. Congratulations on the release, Bikerdude! I've enjoyed all your others, maybe some day my computer will get proper counseling and behave enough that I'll get to play this one.
  18. Happy Birthday to this awesome child of my beloved Thief franchise! Now I'll never forget it, too, since it nearly shares MY birthday.
  19. I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to post this... this thread has been going for several months, and I'm not sure if 'improvement wishes' still belong here or not. My question (and wish) though, is in regards to Secrets. Yes, I'm one of those that go around searching for every little Secret in the Thief games, and while I've seen a bit of it here in TDM, it's not quite the same. There's no listing '2 of 3 Secrets Found' in the final score...and I was wondering if deeper 'Secrets' support would ever make its way into TDM? Or will it remain an Objective-only system (such as in Heart)? Aside from the things I miss that cannot be used here to avoid IP issues (oh Haunt sounds, how I miss thee), the Secrets system is the one thing I miss the most. Keep up the great work, everyone. I never thought I'd purchase or install DOOM (or any game remotely like it, heck, even still when I think about it I get the shuddering willies), but you folks have created a wonderful conversion here. Thank you!

  21. I finally got to finish this one! I started it the day you got it working for me, but, well, sometimes Real Life interrupts things, and I wasn't able to devote the time to truly enjoy it through the end until today. I am SO glad you were able to fix this for me, Grayman! I loved this mission! Really fun story. Absolutely great, and that's even with being struck by the 'no font' bug from the moment the mission loaded. I didn't care! Thank you so much for working to figure out how I could get this mission to run. It was so worth it!
  22. Geeks are the best! *geek love* Indeed, this is a very potent truth. The Thief community is a wonderful one to be a part of, even if I've been little more than a forum lurker over on TTLG for all my years there. As the TDM community is, in many ways, a descendant of that one (as well as an ascendant, I suppose), I'm not surprised to find this place to also be fantastic. I hope TDM 1.03 brings a fix for the problems I have, but even if it doesn't... I'm very grateful for all the help I've been given here.
  23. Drivers upgraded to 10.8, still crashing same as before. Are we gonna have to go through this again? *pulls a quote from Baddcog* I'll keep trying just about anything, though!
  24. Sorry, I had posted this info already, in my first 'having trouble' post, but that was in the Alchemist thread, not here... I'm running 10.3. The most recent is 10.8, but I'd heard a lot of grumbling about several of the more recent being 'not as good', so I've been holding off.
  25. Windows 7 64bit Home Premium. OCZ RAM. VisionTek ATI 4870.
