Huh. That is very strange. Did you say the directory itself was called tdm_installer.exe, with the .exe extension? If so, try renaming the directory to anything else and then copy the file out of it.

That did it! It worked! I moved the installer into the main folder and I'm updating now. Thanks so much! 🤩

Okay, so you have something like c:\games\darkmod containing all the 2.09 files IIUC. Inside that is another directory called c:\games\darkmod\tdm_installer (or something similar), and inside that is a file called tdm_installer.exe which, when you run it, tries to create a whole new installation of TDM 2.10 where that exe is.

Can you not just copy or move the exe file into one directory higher up, into the c:\games\darkmod directory where all the 2.09 files are? Then it should work.

Maybe I am not understanding the question.

You understood my problem perfectly. The trouble is, my computer refuses to copy the installer into the main darkmod folder, claiming there already is one--when there isn't. I've checked like a hundred times.

If I ignore that and try to install in the tdm_installer folder, it doesn't update the v. 2.09 I have but creates a new second game v. 2.10. Maybe I should just do that...? I'm running out of ideas at this point.

Thanks so much for helping out, thebigh :)

That is where it's supposed to be. Why can you not copy it? What's going wrong when you try?

It's installing a second version of the game in the new folder, not update the one I already have in the darkmod folder. Hope that makes sense.

The TDM updater is obsolete. It's been replaced with tdm_installer.exe on Windows, and with tdm_installer.linux64 on Linux. You should have a smoother experience with that; it's a bit less finicky than the updater was.

Since I already have TDM v. 2.09, I downloaded the installer.exe as a zip folder, then unpacked it--and it created a new folder: tdm_installer.exe. I can't copy or extract the installer from there to my darkmod folder, so it tries to install a double version (v. 2.10) of the game in the installer folder. What am I doing wrong? Tech illiterate here...

  5. Turns out, this is NOT a Dark Mod mission at all. I remembered wrong! Woe is me...

The mission I was sort of remembering was the second mission in the Death's Cold Embrace campaign, A Formula For Success. The Highwater Mansion was the house, and the snowy street outside the one I could recall.

I just tried Tears of St Lucia and it starts out with your description, aka light posts, broken carts, road veering off the to the right. It has a church rather than a mansion. Maybe?

Is there something wrong with this mission? I have Tears of St Lucia on my list, but when I install it, it says no mission available. And if I try to download it through the game itself, that particular mission isn't even available for download? Has it been removed maybe...?

Also Lords and Legacy, same opening. broken cart, city streets to the right, fire lamps. Maybe?

Checked this. Not this one. This starts on city streets. The mission I'm thinking of is maybe in a rural area or some such. There's just the small curve of paved road and the mansion on the right side. Thanks for the suggestion! :)

That's going to take a while! but it's definitely an enjoyable task :) So it wasn't TD3: The Heart of Lone Salvation you were thinking of?

Missed that post! Well, I checked--and no, not that one. It didn't have any fog. Everything was perfectly visible. But man, it's been a while since I've played that one. Thickest fog in any TDM mission, I think. Nice :)

Yeah I don't remember much about the inside either, but I do remember being able to access the cellar from the courtyard. It does sound like we're thinking of the same mission, and I'm sure it's TDM and not Thief. I've looked over the mission list twice now and nothing is coming to mind 🤔

Yeah, I've gone through the mission list a couple of times too now, and nothing is jogging my memory. Man, I'll have to start each and every one :D Well, more playing yummies!

Anything else that can help jog our memories? Very old mission maybe or anything about the style and setting?

Your description sounds familiar to me as well. The one I'm thinking of has a narrow and twisty street that had a broken down cart and a light post near the start. There was a well guarded courtyard of stone in front and a balcony you could rope arrow up to as well as a set of vertical doors leading to the cellar. Sound familiar? Do I know what it's called? Haven't the foggiest... 🤣

It's weird. I can't remember anything about the house/mansion itself. Just the street out front :D Broken down cart, light posts... Yeah, that sounds about right. The sentry post had a window overlooking the street, and to get to the gate(s) you had to either hug the back wall of the street or crawl under the window to avoid detection. Can't remember if the windows could open... Hmm...

Good to know other people sort of recognize this mission too! I was starting to think I'd imagined the whole thing, like a fever dream mixing several missions :D

Can it be 'Down by the Riverside'? After disembarking from the ship, there's a curved road, cart, sentry posts, and a mansion where many things have happened over the years, and there is also a supernatural element to it.

Nope. Just checked. Not this one either. But looks cool tho. Can't remember if I've played this. Now I'm gonna :D

In the mission I'm looking for, the starting area I remember is a paved city street. You start in front of a closed wooden gate. The street curves ahead to the right. A wall is one the left, with nothing behind it. Two sentry stations are between two ornate wrought iron gates on the right, behind which is the courtyard of a manor, two-storied I think. The main story takes place there. I vaguely recall a murder and possibly something supernatural... Hmm... Well, I'll keep looking!

Thanks everyone for taking the time to help out! :)

  12. Checked out both of those missions. It's neither one, sorry to say.

But I've not even played Blackgrove Manor, so at least I'll get to play a new mission this evening :)

I'll keep looking. I wonder if it's a T2 FM after all... Sucks to have poor memory!

    Thanks so much, guys :)

  13. Can you guys help me find a mission? I can't remember if it's TDM or a Thief FM, but I could swear it's the former. The mission area is composed of a curved section of road with a cart and sentry posts (that's where the mission starts) and a mansion where a murder happened, I think. I can't remember if there was a supernatural element... Any help would be appreciated! :)

    Hello Summer,

    Try this:

      Reveal hidden contents

    grafik.png.15fb70d60b6d94598ac302e441b4776f.png

    Got it! Thanks, Jack :)

Only two more things to do:

One, there's a chest in the Court I can't open, and I can't seem to find a key, though I feel like I've been everywhere. Two, I have the three items needed to get the Scepter of Discipline, but no clue as to where to use them...
Any help would be appreciated. I don't know why this mission has me searching in every nook and cranny, and I still can't seem to find what I need :( Poo, maybe I'm getting rusty...

Yes, you have to put the bone pieces in the several bowl.

When you enter the crypt, you will see a very comfortable stone bench to the left with a table in front of it. Check the readable that lies on the table. The readalbe is called "The Tortures of St. Wilbert".

This particular readable should help you.

    Good Luck! :)

    Yes, I read that readable.

But I don't seem to be getting the order right... Which bone goes into which bowl? I've tried several variations, and nothing happens. So I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong... I just drop the items in, right? Enter didn't take the objects out of inventory.

Thanks a lot, Jack, for taking the time to help me :)

  16. Question:

Are we supposed to do something with the four bone pieces you find in the crypt? I tried placing them in the bowls in the main crypt room, but nothing happened... Is there a specific order? I mean, I read the readable about arm, spine, leg, and head, so I know that, but the bowls...?

Thanks in advance :) Man, this is such a huge mission!

Hm, yeah I've gathered that many players found it hard to figure out which windows are openable. I'm working on adding some tell-tale knobs that will distinguish them a bit better. The Bishop's Palace is meant to be hard, so I guess I succeeded there ^^ Though I don't feel like I was too stingy with shadows in there, every room should have shadows to hide in, even if you have to wait for a patroller to leave sometimes.

Don't worry about timed challenges, I don't do anything like that. I mostly build my missions to be slowly but thoroughly explored! I am thinking of adding a new challenge though with the update, but I can't promise. It may be worth waiting until the update for the replay.

      Hide contents

Ah, I think I understand what happened in the catacombs then. You were probably running so fast through the trigger that it didn't have time to fire. I'll make sure to make it a bit bigger, so that the more skittish players aren't robbed of the experience!

There were plenty of shadows, that was fine. It was poor me choosing a dark corner--and then a patrolling guard deciding to stop right there, in front of my hidey hole, to stare at a painting or just plain wall, heh :D Then they usually spot me, even in near total blackness. Sigh.

I do tend to run away screaming from revenants. Not a fan. It's not even their appearance that gets me, it's the sounds. Eww.

Glad you enjoyed it! Sounds like you have a lot of other content to go through when replaying it. What was the most challenging part? The sneaking or the searching?

As far as the bug is concerned:

      Reveal hidden contents

Is it possible that you had "notarget" set when you went into the crypt? That's the only reason I could think of that would stop the revenants from spawning. They are set loose once the player steps in to the tomb of Santa Letta past the two iron gates you have to open, but if notarget is on it won't trigger.

I thought the toughest to spot were the windows. I couldn't always tell what could open and what not. It was a sort of hunt to find them :D

The church was the most challenging section for me. Namely the areas with the lights you couldn't turn off. I kept ending up in rooms from where I couldn't escape when a guard patrolled in. Gave me palpitations each time!

    As for the bug,

no, I didn't have notarget on. Not invisible or inaudible either. I don't really use those, not even with revenants and spiders which I'm scared of, especially in confined spaces. Perhaps it was a temp thing because when I reloaded and did that part again, they triggered. I was running, trying to get to the stairs because I doubted they could climb up, and ran smack right into them.

I'm not proud to say but I screamed out loud. Just for a second. *blush*

So, thanks for that heart attack moment, Bienie ;)

Gonna try the mission again later with the challenges. I hope they're not timed or anything. I suck at those 😕

  19. Wow, this was one heck of a challenging experience. Loved this mission. So tough but so rewarding. This took me hours and hours to finish, two days actually. I missed out on a lot, about four thousand gold, dammit. Plus, I only got a couple of secrets. Oh well.

Had some trouble figuring out where to drop of the stuff from the side jobs, let alone where to find the rewards. But it's a small matter in such a huge, complex mission.

Didn't do the challenges yet, but found that they exist, so... yay for next time!

Had a couple of issues, though. For one, when pickling locks, whether doors or chests or whatever, I kept getting both the success and failure sounds at the same time, regardless of whether I actually succeeded or not. Kinda weird. Don't know if this was a mission-specific thing or the newest-update thing because this was the first mission I played since updating TDM... Maybe others have already mentioned this...?

    Second thing was

the revenants in the crypt. I had a hunch something would be there after reading the book that warned about them, but for some reason they never triggered for me. I flipped the switches, lit the torches, got the chalice thingy, and then ran out like a bat out of hell--but nothing appeared or chased me. Hmm.

In any case, thank you so much, Bienie, for a wonderful mission ❤️
