  1. I'll thank you for the both of those recommendations, lost_soul.
  2. I don't think I finished either Morrowind (I know I didn't) or Oblivion (was it "finishable"?), but I do recall liking Morrowind at the time as the best of those kind of games I'd tried... And Oblivion was great, especially the story/stories. It's a shame they fucked up the translations. No excuse at all for that. None. This is the 21st century.
  3. Xarg, I just changed the thread title and added another question to the poll rather than open a new thread... Thanks for the run down of the series. Pripyat get a high aggregate so I have a lot of playing to do apparently if I can get into this series. Thanks, Serpentine for your input as well. One question I'm hoping someone can answer with a "yes, do this": Can I manipulate objects in the game? And to what degree? They talk up the physics and such but I've yet to figure out how to move or destroy a crate, and I'd like to. Oh, I'd like to be able to do more than that of course (TDM Rules!) but at least that.
  4. I'm seeing a 1st person POV. And the "first person" is about to dagger some archer? What ever it is... it's a terrible thing to leak/haveleak/fakeleak... and the speculation is quite dismal and quite irresponsible. But if the speculation is to be considered? *The 3rd person thing is a FUCKING NIGHTMARE. 3rd person sucks. I cannot understand why anyone likes it over 1st person. *The other bits of speculation are each quite miserable too... or entirely nonsensical...
  5. OOhh, Shadowhide... nice! And do I see a hint of vampire-fear...?
  6. ...But this random "array" of errors, even some that inconsistent with days ago, is an indication that you've got driver update problems; or heat problems; or RAM problems.
  7. Just checking in to say thanks for the info, guys. I'm about to go STALKING (vanilla, soes that I kin get reacquainted and also be able to appreciate the mod{s} I install when I do install them)... I'll just see about the freedom I have to not be pushed into too much mercenary business... I doun wanna be a merk; I especially doun wanna be a merk for a disagreeable cause...
  8. I think it's a lot of things... Look here: "Doom 3\darkmod\tdm_defs01.pk4\def\tdm_ai_melee_sets.def" That is there is a file called "tdm_ai_melee_sets.def"... under the directory "def"... inside the file "tdm_defs01.pk4" (just a zip file with a new/different {and better! oh how wonderful!} extension) It has some somewhat documented details for the different difficulty levels.
  9. Anyone have any experience-with and/or opinion-of this STALKER mod?
  10. Well, I'm being serious, but not really expecting to be taken serious... So I weigh in brusquely and heavily... all the while, somehow, hoping/trying to be dismissive towards the issue but not intending to be dismissive or rude to the raising of the issue (or any issue). The reason "why" I would want to get rid of the sword is all about what I said just before that: it's about something that is far-removed from the gameplay I look for in TDM/Thief; (therefore and +) I would hate to see any time spent messing with it, at least right now, as there are other issues I would hope can be addressed instead.
  11. IMO, this is one area that goes in the you-shouldn't-be-wasting-time-with-it-as-long-as-there-are-other-issues. Because combat is not thiefy. If you want to "fix" it... get rid of the sword altogether. That'll be quick and done with.
  12. Man, there is just no way they are going to be able to live up to all of this expectation. Right? I'll just be happy enough if the game is an honest attempt at coherence. And completeness... (unlike that ellipsis...) I'm pretty sure they (or, specifically, Karpyshyn) have an endgame in mind and are not just pulling a "Lost" bunch of nonsense. Though I doubt it is truly a great story, it has so far been brilliantly told; and that is what makes it "epic" to me. There is a lot of nice detail there in the story and some strong plot-lines too. I don't expect (or even particularly want) them to color in all the space around the details. I just want them to wrap up the main story as if it has some sort of purpose for being told. It's actually a lot to ask -- but sometimes, sometimes. ... I did "get the girl" I really wanted (Tali); I don't think it is meant to really be a challenge because it certainly wasn't. What was cool (not cool) was that I tried my (nevermeantnoharm) shenanigans on a couple of others and the game paid me back by making me feel like a bit of a cad. Cool for the game, not cool of me. ... So, now... S.T.(ohfuckit)ALKER(s)? or Dead Space(s)? I have Azrael's Tear up and running but it just might be too bloody blocky for me... it's hard to go back. Is there an enhancement mod/pak/something? With STALKER I've given it (the 1st episode, Chernobyl) a try -- twice, as I recall. And though it has great reviews which all mention the open-endedness, I was diappointed last try by being sort of made to do something I didn't want to do. I was more or less assigned a mission of predation. This was pretty early in the game, obviously, and maybe it's a one-off, or I can manage otherwise, or... I'm right and the game is NOT open-ended and so not for me? With the Dead Space series, it too seems to be a huge critical success. I think I haven't played it because it is quite certainly a YET ANOTHER "horror survival" game. I don't really like the genre. But i say that having liked quite a few -- because there have been quite a lot. So I don't know. I'm pretty sure what I have to have with any sort of shooter, though is the mechanic I have found in ME and Fallout3... the VATS/the SCI. Are these "pause the action" pretty much standard fare in shooters nowadays? I'm old and can't go in gunzablazin.
  13. A bunch of bad-moodisms Ahhhh... fuck it I'm just being a miserable fuck.
  14. If you have only dabbled in linux, why? Why would you want to put a 70 year old lifelong Windows user into linux? My recommendation is that you don't.
  15. I have absolutely no problem understanding why it is intuitive to strike the AI at the base of the neck. This is how martial arts work. You don't go around karate chopping someone in the skull. You do as I have repeatedly repeated. And you know what? It works. I have a lot of fun and success KOing those I want to KO. It works if I'm swiftly ambushing a patrol or quietly, sneaking up on an idler... swish... thwack... slump... You want to know how to properly KO a guard? I've explained. You want to argue ad nauseum that you need crosshairs to line up blows to the skull and/or helmet? Go ahead. Traditionally (for me) I don't even particularly like to blackjack because Thief was the game that made the practice ridiculous. TDM, on the other hand, makes it fun.
  16. EXCEPT. You need to blackjack them by hitting them at the base of the neck. Not. by. hitting. them. in. the. head.
  17. I like the period at the end of that statement. I concur. FFSYes! ! Bang tidy bang on bang a drum bang la desh EOF Lest We Forget 'Nuff said. +1 This. Say no moo-uh. PTTLCDASWTGY
  18. Well I finished. And it was great. At times you feel like nothing you do is going to make a difference, but I rather suspect it (the narrative) is tailoring itself to my game. I may still be wrong about that and it is all an illusion, but I can at least feel like what I've done is impacting things. And aside from the already acknowledged brilliance of being able to produce such a choose-yer-story story, the mechanics work wonderfully too. There has been only a couple/few times I felt the shorthand dialogue did not properly convey what I was intending to do. Problem is one of the most crucial ones is one of those... but I think I can still correct it, as I have maintained enough control over said situation to rectify. ... I felt I made some big errors that cannot be blamed on the misinterpretation of the shorthand too; none that I shall bother to take back or redo. Lessons learned. Redemption awaits -- or at least the prospect of it fuels my ambition to play ME3. ... So, I'm glad bikerdude told me there is no question that I needed to play.
  19. Well, I don't mean to hi-jack the subject of this thread; though a thread is more than seems necessary to raise the issue. It seems like something that could be handed with a bug report, but just in case... I'm excusing my "off topic"..ness... by asserting that I'm "bumping" the thread with this continued nonsense! That YT site is bizarre, 1. Because it does prove that nothing can't be found in 2 entirely unrelated instances on the www... 2. And there is another coincidence, aside from the name thing, that the YT site also holds. A 1:365 coincidence! Anyway here is an intentionally cropped and blurry picture of my inspiration for my incarnation:
  20. You hit them at the base of the neck. It works perfectly. As it should. (I've said that about 4 times now in various threads:laugh:... I'm a little of the mind that it should be left for those who want to, to figure it out... but I'm also at other times wondering if it should be spelled out in a more prominent place as it seems to be one of those things that people need to be able to immediately grasp or they will reject TDM... which...)
  21. Unacceptable. Yuve gawn und roont evree thinq lykka hunta coo.
  22. O, um, ur... I thought that said, "Probably won't let you know" (because, of course, what you're planinng on doing is entering under an alias a great little mission that we all know you can accomplish whilst you work on what appears to be your most ambitious project yet -- the FM you are working on and speaking to and about in your thread, with all it's enticing 'how do I do this' and 'this is what I did today' things...) Did I read that wrong? Am I just wishfully wistfully wishing wishes? ... I coulda swore it said, "Probably won't let you know"... mutter... mutter... ...muttermutter
