  1. You won. And ZB is right. But it's quite funny that ZB has to explain this to you. :D

He didn't have to explain anything. I wasn't even saying anything about myself, I was saying that games have evolved from the crap of Doom and become more involving and interesting. Therefore we/everybody has won.

  2. They were important, but there was not enough processing power to support everything. You can use early games which try to have shadows, physics and other effects, but of course all this requires CPU horse power. So in order to finish a game, you have to cut features that are less essential.

Interesting, but I believe that the space invaders and such style of gameplay was still the focus of many shooter games, whether FPS's or spaceship style of games. AI just wasn't so important then, and also just mindless shooting of lots of enemies was more the in thing.

  3. You mean, the FPS genre has evolved from "Shoot everything that moves" to "Shoot everything in sight"?

Nope, the AI has advanced to make it more of a challenge then merely having more health for the enemy and less for you etc. AI takes cover (HALO, COD2), uses flanking movements (Far Cry), more interaction with the environment (Half Life 2).

The weapons react more realistically in the case of human style weapons, not the Alien stuff obviously. SOme FPS's have body specific reactions when AI is hit. FOr example if they are shot in the foot, they hobble about etc.

  4. Oh go freg yourself.

No thanks, I have a girlfriend. No need for self gratification.

Doom 3, however, does not play anything like classic Doom. The original Doom threw you up against dozens of enemies in large well-lit rooms. D3 pits the player against at most a handful of monsters in dark, cramped environments. It's a completely different feel.

As for the original Doom's gameplay, fair enough, as many people bought it and enjoyed it thus causing other companies to produce stuff similar to it. It doesn't take away the fact that gameplay for FPS has evolved from there, i.e. Halo, Half life and Far Cry, and that Doom3 is a boring, repetitive hark back to, boring repetitive style of gameplay, regardless if the number of enemies attacking you at once, or whatever has dwindled. Let's walk into a room and woah, a few seconds/paces later someone spawns behind. Whoopee, brilliant

  5. Just out of curiousity, who was that refering to? I would assume you were responding in kind to Ombrenuit, but his/her member number is 112.

:D:D I was looking at his posts :D:D Thanks for pointing it out. Changed it now. Could've been a bit embarassing for me and 107...

  6. You make it sound like the task is remotely easy to do.

It's just a theory, but I have a feeling that after the intial 400 members: any new member that lands a three in the last digit of their member number is naive. Oh the joy of meeting member 473 of you bunch.

Just a theory too, anyone with the member number 112 is a smug, condescending, d*ckhead :D

BTW, ZB the British press were writing along the lines that it was basically a remake of the original Doom, in premise anyway. I'll try and find an article.

  7. Doom didn't actually get a remake, it got a sequel.

A "remake" would be copying the entire map set and storyline into a new engine, which in my view would be very boring.

I thought ID said that Doom3 was basically a remake of the original Doom ?

  8. You realise it's quite difficult to emotiate, show emotion, on messages etc ?

The only person I had been sort of serious with was ZB. I've actually come across him on other forums. No one else have I not been light hearted with. You've got a lot to learn kid ! ( I'm being condescending :P )

  9. Two problems:

    1: What's to say I'm not ;)

2: We're on other sides of the Earth.

Now let's stop it cos it may offend others.

    OK. But,

1: I'm a lot older and more experienced in fisticuffs

2: I've always fancied going for a trip to OZ !

    **Silly convo finished now**
