  1. As I've said a few times before here, it's there mod and they will be providing tools etc for which anyone can do as they want. I was never saying that Splinter Cell or MGS should influence the mod or such, merely stating how they've met with success with bringing stealth to the 3rd person. If anyhting Splinter Cell was more influenced by Thief then MGS, as the developer have said they were very influenced by the shadow play aswell as the light gem.
  2. How old are you and where you from ZylonBane? You discuss like a kid.
  3. 3rd person is a viable option in stealth games, if not why would Metal Gear which is considered a stealth game aswell as Splinter Cell be so popular? They've both outsold Thief games many times over. The Japanese don't really like the first person perspective, hence the lack of popularity of FPS games.
  4. Atleast woah, doesn't personalise and be rude when putting his point across ZylonBane. If you don't like what I've said or disagree strongly, I suggest you not write in this thread as you're acting like a spoilt American teenager, who is becoming abusive.
  5. I've accepted the fact you guys aren't going to do 3rd person. It's your mod and you are 100% entitled to do as you see fitting aswell as the gameplay style, view etc. I was merely putting my personal reasons for liking the 3rd person, namely that of viewing the character you are controlling aswell as the actions he/she is doing. It's almost godlike as you are controlling them almost like a pawn. Some may say with the placement of the camera in 3rd person especially in closed environments i.e. corridors etc it may actually be more difficult as in FP you move around quickly for view, whereas the camera is not fast in the 3rd person to get the best aspect.
  6. I disagree with easiness in 3rd person. It's all dependent on the enemy AI aswell as difficulty setting/objectives. Splinter Cell 1&2 are a prime example. Also you could argue that it's difficult to know when exactly to attack from behind in 3rd person in comparison to FP. SC shows a box to say when to grab etc.
  7. You've probably heard the person coming anyway, you're just able to plan when to confront a bit better.
  8. I knew that already It moves around Garrett. It all comes back to what was said earlier in the thread. I reckon the Dark Mod will be class as the Thief style character is unknown at the moment anyway and you can imagine yourself as him. The FP is fine. However Garret, Fisher, Snake etc are not you. It's personal preference.
  9. Yeah the camera was independent of movement yet whilst moving you could steer Garrett more effectively by using it, if you get what I mean.
  10. What I mean is whilst playing the game I want to be able to move the camera around such as 3rd person Thief DS and Splinter Cell.
  11. OrbWeaver, does the Doom3 editor allow access to the source code?
  12. I really think Splinter Cell has mastered it. I'm going to have to try and map 3rd person mod effectively to the XBox 360 USB controller, and the left stick.
  13. The movement of tha camera, making it more accessible. The camera becomes useful and not a frustrating hindrance.
  14. But won't it help with level design aswell as 3rd person viewpoint?
  15. Excellent. Some cameras in the 3rd person especially when you're up against a wall and rotate around behind you have problems. Most platformers have that problem. Thief DS and SC don't. Looks like a lot of hard work for one person though
  16. Thanks Domarius. I've planned what I'll do now. I'll obtain the PC version of Thief3, having the XBox version already, and design levels first. I'm going to look at the modelling stuff aswell as ligthing then start to read the DOOM3 stuff later on, closer to the Dark Mod time, where I'll obtain Doom3 PC and hopefully have a bit of experience by then. I was looking at the Doom3 forums and that Ninja Mod looks decent in the 3rd person. The camera is slightly far away. Is it possible to bring the camera closer and also maneuver it to a Splinter Cell/Thief DS style of one?
  17. Cheers mate. You guys are really experienced. I did Electrical and Electronic engineering at University. I really wished if I had done more C++ programming, and did computer systems engineering instead.
  18. Do you remember this pic for Doom3?: http://www.wallpapergate.com/data/media/194/Doom3_005.jpg I wished for all the Splinter Cell games to look as good as that. Then after playing Thief DS I wanted it to look as good as that. How do you guys go from a marine type of clothes etc to a Thief style of clothing?
  19. Hmmmm...I really need to learn all this stuff. I know my stuff about hardware and such, but software, modelling Lot of learning to do. Then again the rewards of achievement are worth it.
  20. I'm working through these at the moment. http://www.ttlg.com/wiki/wikka.php?wakka=T3edTutorials Any good you reckon?
  21. The first 2 a lot of people found to be trial and error, quite linear aswell as frustrating. If you try Chaos Theory, there are a lot more options, routes and save anywhere feature. It looks amazing for an Xbox game too. I found SC1 the best though. It was tough, but it was so tense. The thing is Thief has a much more likeable protagonist, much better story, aswell as better level design. Splinter Cell is more tense and the 3rd person camera is absolutely brilliant.
  22. I was talking about ZylonBane, not you sparhawk . I was also being light hearted. The thing is you guys probably know of loads of places to find good quality stuff and info. Hence my asking. I use google a lot. I'm not hot on technical stuff. Maybe I should join the Doom3 forums myself. Have any of you actually played any Splinter Cell games?
  23. Fair enough, however as sparhawk seems to know a lot about mods etc, I thought it was some technical term. Some of you guys are way too serious
  24. What is GPL? Sorry I'm new to actual software stuff.
  25. Was the Doom 3 used for the Dark Mod because it was the easiest to use, has the best shadow stuff or for what? Unreal 3 wasn't available at the time and I think isn't still but Source was. Doom3 lighting and indoors are probably more advanced then the others.
