  1. Thanks for the encouragement mate. I will start. I'm friendly with the editor of an Xbox magazine here and he was saying the future is online stuff. It looks as if I'll be having to make games for myself soon

  2. I want to make to begin with a mission, then eventually a whole game. Basically for my own enjoyment. I want to primarily start off with the Fp but also do with the option of a good 3rd person like Thief DS.

  3. So you guys help me out. My goal is to eventually make a 1st and 3rd person game version of Thief style game. I would like to do it witht he Dark Mod. How would I start? What programmes etc to use and study? If you give me an idea step by step, I won't be bothering you with this anymore, promise !!

  4. Learning Dromed before Doom 3 would be like learning C before C++. Unhelpful and counterproductive.

Playing a lot of Thief-style levels is certainly a good idea, as well as developing fundamental skills in modelling and texture creation.

Where would I get the knowledge to learn this? I have time to learn, and am quite capable.

  5. Domarius, I want to do the 3rd person in the dark mod, but am looking to work my way upto it. ANimate the 3rd person aswell as creating levels. Would it be easier to start off straight with Doom 3 stuff or work my way up?

  6. What the hell do either of those questions have to do with third-person in TDM?

<_< Nothing, however if I use these get an idea of designing Thief Style levels using Thief DS stuff then move onto the DarkMod, it may be useful. ;)

  7. So where do I get these freebie ones from and how do I incorporate it with Doom3? As you can see I'm new to this. Are there any online tutorials for all this stuff and I don't mean the sticky topic linked to DOOM3 forums.

  8. Cheers SparHawk. You're the most helpful and understanding fellow here. You have to go into the editor and then do 3rd person animations? Can I mod the dark Mod after getting it to make the 3rd person?

  9. I'm in the UK and will be purchasing Doom3 for the PC. It's going fairly cheap at the moment.

    A few questions:

    1) Is the Doom3 editor included?

    2) How do I go about creating a medieval/gothic world using it?

    3) And is it possible to use the 3rd person view to actually create a game around with the option of 3rd and FP?

I'm a newbie at modding so just want to know, so forgive the ignorance if you guys know your stuff.

  10. You have more of a view to say watch and avoid 2 guards whose guard routines are in fairly close proximity to each other. Have any of you watched the E3 footage of the playable level for Splinter Cell Double Agent?

  11. cloud dew, I will be getting Doom3 for the dark mod. I just don't like Doom3 it's rubbish. I accept the fact that they're not going to do a 3rd person mode, I'm just suggesting it as a viable option. I will try to do a 3rd person mode myself then.

  12. By strategic, I mean you can plan your way forward, watch guard routines etc. I've been playing videogames etc since about 1983. However my first Thief game was Thief DS and this was after Splinter Cell whose the 3rd person camera is brilliant. I just got used to that type of play. I like Garrett and the adventures he takes part in more than Sc and Sam Fisher.

  13. Fp is immersive no doubt about it, but 3rd person can be as tense and more strategic, if you take something like Splinter Cell into account. I think I'm going to have to learn how to do this modding malarky :D and do some 3rd person stuff. I'd love a game with the scal of Oblivion, set in a huge medieval/Thief style city with loads of areas to explore, climb, break into etc. Imagine that one huge Mega City, different quarters, types of people, classes and such. Maybe you can case the areas during the day, then infiltrate at night.

  14. In Oblivion the 3rd person is a bit weird too. It was in Morrowind also. It's just a shame not seeing your character doing the stuff you want him to do. What's the name of the character in the DarkMod? Does he have that slightly bored Harrison FOrd in BladeRunner voice over of Garrett in Thief DS?

  15. No need in convincing, as after playing Deus Ex 1&2 aswell as Oblivion in FP it is good. It's just after playing Splinter Cell and then Thief DS in 3rd person, I sort of like seeing the character do his/her stuff. It was very difficult for me personally to imagine that I was playing as myself and not the developers character that's all, whilst playing Thief DS in a second playthrough in the FP.

BTW are these what the 3rd person in Doom 3 is like?

If they are then they don't look too bad.

  16. Why do you prefer 3rd person over first, though?

It has better peripheral view cameraand can be used for strategic planning. I don't like the Metal Gear camera as it is too unrealistic. I think Splinter Cell provides the best between Thief FP and MGS view.

The thing is New Horizon, I don't have Doom3, the game, yet for the PC. I tried the game on the XBox and it was SOOOOOOOOO boring. I'll just have to find the pics on the net. The thing is in Thief, Splinter Cell or any game in the third person such as Shenmue, Zelda, Final Fantasy etc you're playing as a character created for the story, who have their own back stories, quests, missions etc. You aren't actually that character, you're just controlling them. In Morrowind, Oblivion etc you create your own character and can look through their eyes or if you model them on yourself, your eyes in the game and therefore FP is more appropriate. Does the DarkMod let you customise your character?

  17. Well, to put it simply, we won't remove it, we just won't support it. Which means you can still open the console up and type in "pm_thirdperson 1" and go to third person :)

Might be a bit hard to aim with bow though...

So will it be the same as Oblivion's 3rd person? DS had a good 3rd person that aims in FP for arrows. The 3rd person in DS isn't as good with the camera as Splinter Cell but the FP aim is better than the over the shoulder aim of SC.
