  1. I definitely like written clues, something in someone's journal or letter or something, preferably in the nearby area such as the same room, but if not then clearly mentioning the room (such as workers report found down in the cellar but mentioning work on "the new back passage in the library"). I think some small visual clue is also good to go along with the written one, not just one or the other, unless one or the other is so obvious that you just plain don't need the other.

  2. Okay, I'm done with my mission!!! I need just to have a couple people test it for catastrophic bugs.

    My own performance tests:

New laptop with onboard Intel HD Graphics (more like Intel CRAP Graphics)

    - not playable, mostly get about 4 or 5fps, in a couple spots down to 3

Old laptop with a good ATI Radeon x1600 card

    - totally playable, get 15-20fps throughout, a couple spots down to 12 (I use v-sync, hence the factors of 60)

My desktop with nice GeForce 9600 GSO

    - very smooth, sometimes 60fps, usually 30fps (again, with v-sync)

So I'm guessing it's acceptable for the community overall, but sorry to you out there with on-board graphics.

So, how to do a bit of beta-testing???

  3. I'm trying to finish my contest mission and it's a very "platformy" map which will certainly lead to lots of falling deaths and subsequent quickloading.

I'm trying to get a feel for whether this will be acceptable due to quickloading being pretty fast (it is for me), or whether I really need to take the time to try to script in some sort of non-death auto-resurrection thing like the training mission did.

This is a separate issue from whether you dislike that style of mission (I know some of you will hate it! But some will really enjoy it!)

  4. I really feel that five levels is perfect. I think you just gotta not be afraid to use a 1 now and then. If you just can't BEAR to hand out a 1 ever, then you effectively only have two levels to pick from. Some people cant bear to even use 2's, so they only have three levels to pick from. If you have a 1-10 scale, only 4-10 ever get used, so it's closer to a true five point scale than it is to a true 10 point scale. I prefer a TRUE five point scale which gets USED. Maybe make 1 sound more tolerable. Leave off calling it "Poor", just call it "Average". Then we can actually use the dang 1's a bit more, and then five points will be enough.

  5. I just played this mission and voted - it's VERY GOOD! I enjoyed it very much. I got frustrated a few times trying to sword fight the undead, but that was mainly because I don't like the difficult sword fighting of Dark Mod (I prefer the easy Thief style). So after accepting that I HAD to sneak around more, I got over that. I LOVED all the great detail of the rooms and the notes and objects and little things

(like the gouged out eyes in the paintings, that was a good eerie touch)

. I actually got a bit tired of ALL the false platforms and had to reload way to many times, but overall I seriously loved this mission. Excellent work, makes Dark Mod look very good!
