  5. nah, virtual dub and avidemux and others just aren't NLE, can't do fades, or basically ANYTHING but hard raw cutting. MAYBE that's enough in this case, but it's pretty bleak. I don't know why you're getting trouble with WMM Fidcal, that's really too bad. You might try the old version for XP and run it in compatibility mode. And yeah, most people use whatever came with their camcorders, true. It's standard issue and usually works for everyone. It's possible other software might crash due to the same root problem, some driver issue perhaps. Do you by chance have the K-Lite video codecs package installed? That has been known to wreak havoc with different video editing software.
  6. Yeah, TDM guards are a bit high poly. The biggest gain MIGHT be lighting though. The high-poly-ness of the guards will create a SEVERE strain if they are being hit by more than one shadow-casting light. At least you might try testing it - try deleting ALL lighting and just have a higher ambient (so you can see), just for testing, and see what FPS you get
  7. I'm certain you can save your video, but not sure what options are visible on your end. In my Windows Movie Maker in Vista it's called "Publish Movie" (either in the "File" menu or the big button near the top). When hovering over the button is says "Publish movie to file, disc, e-mail attachment, or DV camera". When I select "Publish Movie" I get a choice of where, the list includes: - This computer - DVD - Recordable CD - E-mail - Digital video camera When I select "This computer" and hit "Next" it asks for a file name and location, then on the next screen I can choose my quality settings and size - pick "More settings" and pick something good, then select "Publish" to save it There's no good free editing software I'm afraid, I've searched into it a lot. Windows Movie Maker should be good. If your version is somehow nerfed, you can probably download the fuller version free from Microsoft. It's really a pretty good editor. Otherwise you'll need to spend a few bucks, maybe $20-40, buying something off Amazon.
  8. If it's there when you are in game, it's probably not being rendered, as though it were visportaled, so it's probably not advantageous to punch a hole in it, but I can't be certain.

  10. The lighting on the actual texture will appear smoothly rounded, but any shadow cast by it (including onto itself) will be exact as the polys are, so when the light is going over the curve there will often still be a very solid line of where the shadow starts.
  11. That's a whole 'nother ball of wax. At the moment, if I want a cylinder to really look round, I lower the grid some and slightly bring in the green corners, which overall helps, although it makes the compass points a bit more acute, but it's usually a worthwhile trade-off

  13. With "snapshots" you mean going back to an older version? Maybe I don't know what snapshots are. But rebuilding a problem area doesn't have to involve going back to an older version at all. You can just divide up the brushes in some different pattern, such as using one brush to extend into the corner instead of the other brush, or vice versa, or even just splitting brushes a bit more. Rearranging a few things can do the trick sometimes, even just extremely minor tweaks too such as a tiny resize of a certain brush.

  15. I still have no idea what to do though. Can I select a brush face and add some setting to the Entity properties? It sorta looks like you're making some script though, which smacks of coding, which I turn retarded near.
  16. I think Cylinders should be made the same as Bevels for consistency. This means that you see it very well when making it, as opposed to seeing NOTHING as when the view is centered on the interior of the cylinder. So if you want a standing pillar (most common usage I think), you'll need to be in one of the horizontal views, as you would when making a standing arch Bevel. The logic would be to First use the top view to place the footprint of the pillar, Second use a side view to decide how tall the pillar will be, then make the cylinder, which is clearly and obviously seen from the side. If one wants a sewer tunnel on its side, create the long rectangle horizontal brush and then from the top view make the cylinder. By the way, I think "remove selected brush" should be a more universal setting rather than just an option for the "create simple patch mesh". When I'm making a cylinder I almost always want to remove the selected brush, but always have to do it manually.
  17. But if my whole map is fine except for one little sliver missing in one spot, it would be nice to stick "noFragment" in that one spot as a quick fix rather than rebuilding stuff.

  22. Is this tracked? I just pulled out a very long brush to make a sideways cylinder only to have it be a very wide short one!
