  1. This sounds like you need some sort of "frobable_bind" optional property, which the mapper can use to make the player able to frob entire groups of objects (like the top and bottom parts of a chest, or the body carrying a key).
  2. I apparently have a shader in my map with the name "Default" (as opposed to the existing shader "_default"). (It is autogenerated when my map loads.) How do I find this shader? I have tried right-clicking on it and choosing "Select elements using this shader" in the Media tab, without anything being selected, and the only search tool that I've found for textures, seem to be "Map -> Find and replace textures..." in the menu, and I don't want to replace it before I've found it and studied it. Sometimes - only sometimes - I also get this DR console message: "Found a valid material name in the system clipboard: Default." What's "the system clipboard"? My regular clipboard? In that case, why would DR search for shaders there?

About making templates: I've gone over some recent AI voice synthesizers, and one of them requires the voice actor to read a specific long text provided by the program. That sounds like a very thorough way to make a template, if they're willing to do that, which would probably produce good results. I can't remember what synthesizer required that, though. I'm just describing what "making a template" could entail.

...and with "vocalisation" I'm assuming that you mean just all the samples from the game, and not some special studio format of them.
  5. "A word processor (WP) is a device or computer program that provides for input, editing, formatting, and output of text, often with some additional features." Geany is a word processor as well. ...and I imagine that Notepad++ is as well. I just don't need anything more than Notepad most of the time. I started out reading the qconsole in Notepad, without the linebreaks. I don't have/need modeling software, and so I just open the lwo models in Notepad, and I can then see what textures the models are using. Writer and Geany will just refuse to open non-text files, but Notepad doesn't complain. ...but like I said: I don't need "great software" to do basic stuff with text files. ...and when I do need it, I have Writer and Geany. If we're talking script code, then yes, I most often use Geany, but the only reason I do that, is because the indentation is shorter in Geany. If we're talking actual programming code, where color coding becomes useful, then I always use Geany. ...but we were talking word processors.
  6. If I want more undos, I'll just use LibreOffice Writer. ...or WordPad maybe works for that. How often do you need more than one undo when you're writing text? ...and if I want more tabs, I'll just open another Notepad window, and a new tab will sort itself in the taskbar automatically. ...and if I want a spell checker, I'll just consult my internet browser. It doesn't happen that often, because I know English. ...and you want a file size limit? Why??? Are you writing too much and need to be stopped? With Geany, I have four word processors on my computer. ...but hold on: Notepad++ IS FREE? Is that what you said? Well, that changes everything. Just hold on while I download all the free forty word processors that are better than Notepad, so that I can use all of them instead of Notepad, because, you know, you can't possibly want to use Notepad for anything, because you need spell checkers and five undos incase you make really weird mistakes...
  7. No. No you don't. You have no idea what it's like. I'm going to bed.
  8. IE is the low end I paid for, while I also have a high end. There is no need for a third, mid-tier internet browser. Why is the concept of "three" eluding you?
  9. Good news, everyone: I have now realized that I am a clueless newbie idiot, and I am working to fix it. :)

      I don't believe you 🙃

Well, I fixed it. :) It took me several days, but I did it, and now I am a master again. :)

    Gloomwood

Oh, that's right: There was a gun in that game, wasn't there. It's like with the sword in Thief: Why are game designers so afraid to commit? Just do away with all the lethal stuff, and just focus on one playstyle. Why have a tool that is realistically heard throughout the entire level, and ruins half of the playstyle? I won't play Gloomwood until I'm positive that I never have to bring a gun with me anywhere. I hate guns. Guns and violence is so overused in games that I just want to scream. Games are not inherently murder sims, yet in practice they de facto are. It's very creepy how addicted to killing people are, "for entertainment". We are clearly an evil species.

Well, that rules out sudden throat cancer as a possible cause for why SS3 got sold. I'm happy to hear "Ms. Nightmare Fuel Voice" in any context, but "Thief but with guns" just sounds like a self-defeating concept.
  12. Looks great, but what to consider, is that the human attention notices changes more than it notices states, so you don't need it to go full frob brightness. This is something that needs to be tweaked until it's just right, I guess.
  13. But then the upper drawers will block the view of the lower drawers, even if you open them into a sort of staircase. Even if you put loot in just the top drawers, the player will still try to peer into the bottom ones. The only solution would then be, to just make the two topmost drawers openable, which is kind of weird. I'd actually like to make the chest of drawers animate, opening the drawers one by one, and taking the loot as you go, with just one click, but that's pretty advanced to set up.
  14. But come on, datiswous: Is that really your idea of fun to open and lift the clothes of every drawer, to see if there are some coins hidden underneath? There's a reason why pixel hunting is so impopular. Is it really the point of Thief games?
  15. Yeah, I considered making my chest of drawers prefab like that: Just click once and all the six drawers open and close, and all the loot is retrieved, but I thought that that (the manual way) was the way that Thief must have worked. Your post is making me reconsider this.
  16. No, but if I did, I wouldn't uninstall it. I don't uninstall things I buy, and when I don't uninstall things, I'm not looking to replace it with something only marginally better, just so that I can have three programs doing the same thing. I have a low end quick program, and a high end program, and that's as far as I go. I don't have some "Tuesday option" or "suave alternative".
  17. It runs comfortably well on my Windows 7. I haven't uncapped my FPS, so it's running on a steady 60 FPS at all times. My CPU is very old, but my graphics card I bought just a few years ago, and I think the most recent game I played, was Far Cry 5. It didn't run at 60 FPS, but I'm not that picky. ...so unless you are trying to outdo Far Cry 5 in graphics quality, I wouldn't worry too much.
  18. Yes, and then they would starve to death in that map room. That is the point of natural selection.
  19. Speaking of preordering: I remember buying the alpha version of Minecraft, thinking it would be a brutal and mature dwarf mining experience, which would separate the men from the children. I never upgraded it to its release version, and now I can't even play it anymore, because it ran on Javascript. Minecraft really made me hate children forever, along with child supporters like Cursed who ran the Minecraft forums. Children should stay away from my internet.
  20. Oh, so the frob helper works in a different way than the default system? Strange. That sounds like the frob helper needs fixing first then.
  21. Yes, but is Irfanview already installed on my harddrive? This is like telling me to download Notepad++: I basically have two text editors for plain text, and that's LibreOffice Writer, and Notepad. ...and I often just use Notepad. I use it because it's already installed, I own it, it takes no time to load, and I don't need anything more than a place to type something in. ...and I'm sure that you have your own editor, that you're now going to recommend to me, which is free, and that I can download at this link, and which can do this and this, but it's not going to get me to download something that I don't need, which will take up more space on my drive, and which I guarantee will take longer to load than MS Paint.
  22. What comes to my mind is the Thief 4 grabbing animations, and while those look nice at first, they actually just get immersion breaking after a while. They could make a nice gameplay option that you can toggle. ...but maybe I'm wrong, and Goldwell's animations are something else entirely.
  23. The pixel frob helper is really, really helpful. Why on Earth would anyone have anything against making that a default?
  24. Yes. Listen, I've mapped for about thirty years. When I started mapping Dromed, subtractive CSG was a thing - where we used to carve out a map out of a block of solid, which I very much prefer to this inverse "six brushes makes a room" CSG. ...and before that I did that in professional workstation CAD. ...so yes, I can map. ...but mapping takes a lot of time, for anyone, and your first months worth of results for a map, will just be bullshit, unless you really rush things with "speed-mapping". ...and right now I'm just using my map as a work environment for creating engine patches. I really don't mind to show that what I've made so far is shit. I don't care, because I don't base my selfworth on the validation of others. Even if I would happen to be a shit mapper, I'm still mapping, and that's all that matters. Newbies should not be afraid to map, just because their first rooms will turn out to be shit, and I hope that my shitty images will inspire them - build their confidence that we all start out our maps the same. No, I'm not mad - I'm just high on coffee.
  25. I don't know. Hopefully the "_white" dev shader I used as a base, is either 1px or even 0px.
