  1. Hey Bob, cheers for the helpm I'll check out the ones you mentioned. Don't know anything about textures yet, looks like I have some reading to do though...
  2. Heh, ok ok, but any ideas on what to use? I dunno how you guys'd feel about it but I think it'd be cool if you released a small set - 2 basic stone ones, 2 wood ones, etc - generate a bit of interest, get a few more taffers looking into maybe mapping in doomed or whatever and I for one would certainly appreciate it
  3. Hi, Anyone know of where some suitable textures are to be found for us budding TDM mappers? The bog standard Doom ones are very uninspiring for my needs plus the fact that mostly consist of "blanks"... I'm considering even trying to use T: DS textures or maybe just a handful of TDM textures can be lent out? Mike
  4. Thanks! I'm a little confused at the art direction but then, I guess I would be just looking at static images of Thief... it sure looks perwty

Well my last post didn't turn out too well 'cause of the sudden posting frenzy but hey... Spar, leaving the case open isn't usually a good thing as it ruins the aerodynamics of the setup and destroys all through flow.... If it does help then maybe it's a case of blocked inlet vents?

Yeah, i bought a factory spec CPU, just the chip, and used the money i saved to buy an aftermarket fan etc... Never looked back
  7. As much of a fan of Shock 2 as i was (barely played more than a few minutes of the first I'm ashamed to say) I haven't bothered to look into Bioshock too much. There been any revelations of late? I'm hesitant to hold my breath over this one for some reason Mike

Hmm well I'm by no means a systems expert so I'd first off check the bios to make sure all fans were running ok etc then give the internals a once over to make sure there's decent ventilation. After that the best I can do is a BUMP
  9. Now, I'm very new to the Doom3 engine and am no expert so please don't take this badly, but looking at those shots there is room for improvement in a lot of areas. First off is the sense of scale which just doesn't seem right. Whether this is just to do with textures I'm not sure but i would say it's a fundamental brush sizing as well. The roof just doesn't seem to leave any headroom, I wan't to crouch already! Secondly is the detailing. It doesn't seem natural or of any use. Check out the cutouts of the wooden panneling. What's the purpose or use to this? Detailing plays a large part of making a good level excellent, but it won't save a poorly modelled one. Thirdly I'd say is the structural integrity of the area. A "game based on the Thief universe" can use a lot of fantasy and mystique but I think a structurally believable area always works to encapsulate the player in the world. The stair well just doesn't fit the bill for a number of reasons. It's fine to say you're still learning the editor, something I'm currently trying, and I really don't want you to take this the wrong way... I can see a big improvment over your first work. I've tried to be constructive and hopefully you'll end up producing sprawling mansion of epic proportions for us to all sneak around in! Mike

Well, the obvious thing is a decent cold air supply. You checked all that out? What gear is it running?

Hey Sparhawk, My current AMD3200 64 never seems to get above 35 - 40C but my old AMD 1900XP would be at 60C little after turning on and running a game or whatever... I think anything above 70 is strongly ill advised though. Mike
  12. I just tried this demo 'cause of this thread... woah! fantastic work. Haven't finished it yet, got as far as getting the power back on and fixing the next door, but I've been left seriously impressed so far. The GFX and sound are nice 'n all but it's the physics and object interation that I find particularly engaging. I'd love a fully fledged adventure game like this even though I'm not particularly big on the genre, or perhaps a more cerebral (ironically at a lose to spell that correctly right now) System Shock follow on... MMMM Regarding the control system, I love it. But then again I didn't mind TDS too much and I absolutely love OFPs mechanics... the ability to look around whilst walking in a linear direction I miss so badly nowadays. And, for what reasons I don't know, i like the way the mouse cursor moves a certain amount before the view will turn... OFP also does this. HL2 was okay as a game but the viewing and movements mechanics I find absolutely dire in a game in tihs day and age and resulted in me buying and ditching the game for well over a year.
