  1. Looks like the light is coming from the upper-right to me, not the upper-left; the light is above and slightly to the right of the beam. But okay, my question is answered now.
  2. Ah, good point. I neglected to take into account the position of the light source. I'm still curious as to how well the illusion of roundness holds though. What would happen if you moved the light so that it's shining directly onto the upper-left corner of the beam (the "upper edge" as seen from the screenshot's view)?
  3. Not bad! The specular may need tweaking though, since it looks a bit plasticky. I love the idea of softening the corners with a normal map, but it seems to have an unfortunate side-effect. Check out the edges - the beam has a black outline. Doesn't really fit. It'd probably be fine if it was against a dark/black background like a roof, but that restricts its usage a lot.
  4. I have a story that's mildly similar to that, but different... I was standing in the bathroom leaning against the basin one morning cleaning my teeth. Our basin is very low; about hip height. I was still in my boxer shorts and slightly groggy, so when I felt the hairs on my leg move in the draft from the door I didn't think much of it. They kept tingling, though, so I absently brushed my hand over my leg to flatten them down. It came away covered with dozens of tiny tiny spiders. A batch of daddy long leg eggs (the real spider kind) had just hatched underneath the basin and crawled across the basin onto my shorts and down my legs! It was more of a nuisance than anything, but still. What are the chances.
  5. Huh, okay. I've never seen one. Then again I tend to stay indoors a lot. "Painful bite that lasts for weeks" is dangerous enough for me. What kind of a question is that?
  6. Eh, reality looks good on paper but it's a bit buggy. The graphics are halfway decent, but they really need to fix that bug where you can't respawn. It's a bummer, that one...
  7. I have that book. Awesome.
  8. Yah. In Australia, if you see webs with leafy crap hanging in them, usually in a dark corner somewhere... well, just be careful where you put your hands. Getting bitten by a redback spider is not fun. Funnelwebs are worse, but thankfully we don't tend to get them where I live (Canberra). The "daddy long legs" I know doesn't really look like any of those. I guess it's closest to the Pholcus Phalangioides, since it looks nothing like the Opiliones and it doesn't have wings. Rule of thumb in our house: If you see a spider indoors, and it's not a daddy long legs or one of the tiny jumping house spiders or a huntsman (all of which are relatively harmless), take it outside, and kill it. Just to be safe. We get white-tails really often; they aren't deadly but they are nasty. Huntsmen still get put outside but they're too darn BIG to kill. It sucks when they get into our windows (still outside, but between the glass bit, which opens, and the screen, which doesn't) - they like to hide up right near the top, in the hinges. So you start closing it and this huntsman sort of flails around, trapped in the hinge by several of its legs. And then when you open it again to let it out, it huddles itself even deeper in the hinge... stupid spiders. Usually takes some prodding with a broom handle before they'll let you close the damn window. I haven't liked spiders ever since I woke up as a child one morning, and the first thing I saw was a GREAT BIG HUGE huntsman on my wall. Scared the crap out of me.
  9. Actually it's a picture of a fire, taken by this guy (who I don't know, I just found it): http://flickr.com/photos/trussmonkey/
  10. Yeah - we're not really competing with Half-Life 2, after all. As long as TDM looks prettier than all of the games from the existing Thief series (and IMO it already does) then there's absolutely nothing to worry about.
  11. Eek. Spiders! ...don't mind me, it's late and I'm waiting for DarkRadiant to build.
  12. That's always worked for me, unless I'm misunderstanding you. The only time I've seen a "not found" texture in DarkRadiant is when there is actually no texture on the surface.
  13. Ah, I see. Well, I definitely think that the alternate views should continue to be supported - can't be that much more work. Heck, I'd be happy to contribute patches for that myself.
  14. ...so why does that mean that split-pane mode can't support a Doom 3 style media browser?
  15. Can't you just have some windows floating? Just fix the viewport windows down and let everything else be detached, as per normal. I don't know how the code is organised but from a UI point of view that would seem to be the best compromise.
  16. Can't they just be allowed to clip slightly through the doorframe? Does it really look that bad? Surely that's the lesser of two evils. At least until someone figures out a practical way of fixing the collisions.
  17. Are we allowed to blackjack the enemy team?
  18. It is, at least for me. Actually I found it a bit annoying so I changed it to the fixed style that T3Ed and 3ds max use. Thank goodness for preferences.
  19. Burn! And now the gloves come off.
  20. Indeed. I did some Googling and found it here: Low res: High res: http://files.moddb.com/3031/download-lynch...-creation-over/
  21. I bet they only registered the domain name "just in case", so they didn't have to worry about domain squatters. Or possibly it IS owned by a domain squatter (can't be bothered to check the DNS records). So I wouldn't get too excited until someone actually announces something.
  22. Ooh. That's interesting! I doubt if the Dark Mod would be portable to it though.
  23. Nice. I think I like the King Island one best so far. Edit: I'm listening to the Serpent one now and that's even better... hehe.
  24. Stop it, you're making me hungry.
