  1. Ah yeah, you're talking about breaking a level into modular elements (static meshes or prefabs or whatever) versus exporting from a modeller as a single mesh? That's how I try to design levels in the newer editors (like UED), since apparently that's "industry-standard" and makes load times a lot faster (plus it's quicker to design the level/change things around) I kind of miss the old-school editors where you could make pretty much all new content you wanted in them (at least all the architecture) btw, though the official start date isn't until March, is it OK if I start working on at least ironing out storyline/sketches? I fear I might lose a bit of my enthusiasm and free-time by the time March hits if I have to wait
  2. Baddcog, thanks for the run-down, that explains some things (I'll definitely try to make sure not to get carried away by making an epic mission) I got one more quick [probably dumb] question: is it OK if I employ outside modelers like Maya/Blender instead of only using Dark Mod content (or, better put, how much Dark Mod content is required versus original content?) I obviously want to use a lot of DM content since it's a contest for the mod (and I think everyone did a great job on the mod), but I might want have a pretty unique locale/enemies. Presumably you can do whatever you want as long as you retain the basic weapons//gameplay/hud/etc., but I felt like asking a silly question, so I'm glad to hear ir. Perhaps I've finally found my internet home where I can look "like some sort of raper [sic]" without being judged!
  3. has not set their status?

  4. jeez, "rocking buttholes" sound like some sort of raper/d-bag not a good start to a forum career (...perhaps a great start?)
  5. Hey Aprilsister, I appreciate the tips and agree with your last paragraph I don't really care if I win or not, and would intend to make what I want to (something that rocks buttholes while happening to more/less meet the specifications because I was planning on doing something similar anyway), but for the sake of a more perfect understanding I would like to know if winning and rocking buttholes has a good chance of coinciding From your post though it sounds like everyone who participates will be allowed to vote (for some reason I thought there was a panel of judges), which makes the idea of hard-set criteria for winning pretty moot
  6. Hey, first time poster/long time lurker here (is it bannable to say that? should be) This sounds like something I'm 80-90% sure I'd like to participate in. I've been following Dark Mod/wanting to make something for it for years, and this seems like a good catalyst because it actually coincides with some ideas I've been musing on I have a questions about the criteria for judging though. Is the goal to try to reflect the season as clearly or stereotypically as possible (e.g., autumn has red/brown/orange leaves, pumpkins, goblin children) or can it be more subtle, with the ultimate goal to achieve high aesthetic quality while simply making sure the player knows what season is being communicated? I imagine it's the latter but I'm just makin' sure
