  1. I don't think The Last of Us part I is a good game; it is something else in terms of pure audio-visual experience though. The attention to detail is insane, especially in sound and animation.

In that case, this game is not a good start difficulty-wise.

Nah, that's definitely a bug in the game code. It always crashes with a null-pointer access-violation when it is trying to update some stats in the savegame, I had a look at the dumps. I also tried a new savegame, but I reproducible got the same issue over and over again. Aside from that, I also get a d3d crash every now and then. I am also running Intel and an Nvidia 3060 Ti with latest drivers. The only thing I could think of is that the game doesn't like my undervolting settings, but without undervolting, that shitty gpu overheats, so. ๐Ÿ˜„

Anyway, I have given up on the game. Such a shame I was already out of the refund period. Paid good money for it...

I do too, I'd love to keep playing, but currently, I am experiencing a progression breaking bug and the devs don't answer on my bug report. ๐Ÿ˜žย

  11. Perhaps an unpopular opinion: TDM team might benefit from someone with actual QA experience; someone with naturally and professionally developed curiosity, who is interested in how and why things work, how they break :D At least to me it's kind of mind-boggling how untested some rather important features are (first the absence alert feature for items, now the rope +body carry behavior).

For sure! You can never test enough, but if we only keep testing, we never develop something new. That's why we do public beta und hope to catch all issues there. Good thing we have people like you to rely on, to catch these bugs. ๐Ÿ™‚ย

  13. Bumped into an interesting piece of wisdom called Hyrum's Law:
With a sufficient number of users of an API, it does not matter what you promise in the contract: all observable behaviors of your system will be depended on by somebody.

I'd be curious to hear some actual examples where the MSVC implementation of STL diverges from what the standard dictates and developers actually rely on that divergence. I honstely can't imaging there are any instances. The only thing I could think of is that some programmers might rely on implementation where the standard indicates "undefined behaviour", but that would be a major error on the programmers part.

  15. It's funny how perception changes over the years. I've been replaying Bioshock in its Remastered version, and I'm surprised how bad the level design actually is. It's just a series of abstract corridor mazes that you can't really map out in your head. There's nothing that would ground them in any kind of reality, fictional or otherwise, no sense of place people could live in. It's almost like Wolfenstein 3d with cool art deco assets.

Of course, with the experience you gained, you start to notice things.

I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on Infinite as well. My playthrough dates back quite some time, but I distincly remember being quite blown away in the end. Such a cool story.

  16. Anyone here played Inscryption? At first, I was like "no, I am not going to play a stupid card game", but this game is so much more than that. It is so meta, full of 4th wall breaks, and feels so damn spooky and weird because of it. Absolutely recommended, if you can stand the visuals. I recommend not reading up too much on it, as that could easily spoil half the incredible surprises. Just know that what you see in the beginning is by far not everything.

    1. STiFU

      STiFU

@Shadowย the game has a ton of surprises up its sleeve.

Here is my spoiler free steam review:

This is NOT just a regular card game. In its core, Inscryption is a psychological horror adventure game that has you absolutely astonished, everytime it completely reinvents itself. The game is absolutely meta. It breaks the 4th wall hard, creating an immensely spooky atmosphere and so you continue playing until you find all the information to puzzle this all together. However, don't kid yourself: you will not be able to understand EVERYTHING. Not only did the developers build an incredibly deep lore, they also hid an ARG, an RL scavenger hunt of sorts, in the game files, that eventually leads to an alternate ending. And talking about endings: This was the first game in quite some time that had me in that "Wow, I am absolutely gobsmacked"-state when the credits rolled. By far the best indie game in recent years! Do not miss out, if you like something meta along the lines of "There is no Game", or "Hack'n'Slash".

Yeah, lag can be an issue in Deathloop's multiplayer. It helps to play at local peak hours to make sure you invade someone near you.

I wouldn't say Juliana is underpowered, 'though, as you get reaaaally good weapons and once you have the right slabs, you can be one hell of an annoyance to the Colt player. Especially the invisibility slab with the enhancements that it doesn't cost energy while not moving and directly returning to invisibility after shooting. This slab is so overpowered in conjunction with a massive sniper rifle. It's absolutely unfair, but also quite fun to be on the delivering end. ๐Ÿ˜„

I very frequently ended runs for Colt players. ๐Ÿ™‚ Had a streak of 25 or so. ๐Ÿ˜„

@Wellingtoncrabย and @peter_spy, I am curious, did you guys play the game online? I mean, like 75% of the fun stems from the multiplayer. It is so thrilling.

Peter, the game was definitely inferiour to Mooncrash as far as immersive-simyness and rogue-iness is concerned, but Mooncrash was definitely inferiour as far as multiplayerness is concerned. ;D

Wellington, yes, Arkane tried something else than immersive sims for once and I for one applaud that they also try a different Genre every now and then. But don't you worry, they will surely return to immersive sims after that coop multiplayer fiasco that is to be released next. (I have high doubts on that one)

Peter, my comment was really more of a winky-eye one. ๐Ÿ™‚ย I did not mean to be defensive at all. It was just the first time I read something negative about it, and I myself found it utterly brilliant, so I was really suprised and wanted to see how the general public saw this game. Hence, I posted that metacritic score.

Also, your post implied that the game was to trash that you feared for the financial success for Arkane. So, to me, that comment was beyond "loving a game and still be critical about it". ๐Ÿ˜„

To me, the core gameplay idea already sounded so very intriguing: Roguelite Time-loop mystery adventure with an antagonist that can be played by another player invading your run? You have to applaud this idea, don't you? ๐Ÿ™‚
