  1. Hrrm - what does the game actually look like at those settings? Does that turn all the lights off altogether? Maybe then we can advertise it on TTLG as "Hey - we finally made it look like Thief 1!" =-D
  2. Hurrah! Hopefully we'll get a traffic boost for that!
  3. nbohr: RIght - considering the amount of weird invented / inflated stuff that was added - it's maddening that so much important stuff was taken away. Bombadil would be a welcome sight.
  4. Oh that looks much more convincing Noss! <3
  5. In answer to hours - there's about half a dozen maps I didn't really enjoy and so abandoned early on - but of the remaining ones I've easily gotten 60 hours of gameplay. That's playing on "easy" difficulty without replaying or ghosting or doing loot hunts! And I've saved up a handful of very large well made maps still to play!
  6. I would agree - Baltona is not a bad map - but is far too much a key hunt for my tastes to be a starter map.
  7. I'm not saying that vocals are easy to do - but they would be an "easier" thing to add to missions than unique models / characters. If we have a lot of readables and unique conversations to overhear - I think it may go a long way to making it feel "thiefy".
  8. That reminds me: I remember swapping out a Geforce 5800 for a Geforce 1 when my old cursed computer was malfunctioning. I was amazed the nVidia drivers didn't bat an eyelid - and the toolbar even offered me x4 Anti Aliasing! I'm a hardware noob so forgive me - but that kind of tickled me in an "impressed by older hardware" way. =D
  9. Wow - thanks Sotha! That's the kind of thing to make a mansion / large building feel "lived in".
  10. Perhaps you just need to meet the right door in your life, Biker... ;-)
  11. Man - that is true! I love the terrifying triggered sounds you get - like in the bonehoard when a giant demonic face warns you "Stay away from my eyes, thief." Or in Thief Gold in the Mage's Guild - when you're stealing from a shrine / statue - and each statue berates you and warns of your doom.
  12. I don't think we really need new gimmicks / gadgets... Some monster or something that was lost in the warp like the belcher or elemental would be fab - but I think what we all really want is a series of levels with plot continuity. One of the things which is so exciting about Thief is how things go from Bad to Worse in the overarching plot. We don't need to see what great plot the Trickster is actually doing in engine - the readables absorbed over hours of gameplay and the atmosphere of the levels sinks in and we can imagine the World at large outside of the missions all the better in a campaign! =-)
  13. Sorry - I'm not hating - it's certainly an accomplishment and not a bad mission - it's just I would pick St Lucia or The Outpost way higher up on the newbie missions list.
  14. Oh Lord - yes please - I think people have been waiting on that for a loooong while. =-D
  15. @Greyman Yes - you're right of course - but even in that instance - I really hate Thief's Den as a starter mission. It was my first exposure to the Dark Mod when the ancient Alpha or what have you was released ages ago and I found myself confused by such a tiny opening area - gave up and didn't look up TDM again until I had this new PC this year. =-X
  16. Yeah - I love that idea - but - we've already had a bit of arguing about how people vote and things - and there are certain people who vote 2/2/2 on even Sotha's missions just because they can. I think that for the most loved missions - perhaps in the downloader - why not put a star by them to suggest which ones a critical eye should try first to get a positive experience.
  17. That is fab! I know it looks modern but I still think it wouldn't look out of place for a noble's lodgings. Although the floral texture might be a bit much. :-X
  18. I think people hear about tdm and go "Oh it's too good to be true"... When they try it - they kick themselves; "I should have got into this years ago!". =-D
  19. Ha ha - wonderful! Thanks for sharing. =-)
  20. Man this is intriguing - would love to have another cavern mission to play! =-)
  21. Oh Lord I'm sorry! I had multiple windows open and posted in the wrong thread! It was the other recent mission that had a steam robot in. My apologies.
  22. @FXDWG Hey - I would be very greatly if you would point me to a good start in Thief FMs. Though I love TDM, I've exhausted all the horror / lost city / ruins FMs so far - I know there are some famous ones out there for Thief 1 and 2. I have an old Sold Out budget copy of Thief 1 and the original boxed version of Thief 2. Shadowhide recommended a few of them but still haven't leapt into digging out the old boxes and fiddling with patches, FM loaders / texture packs etc.
