  1. Here, Here!!! Logic and reason, unlike FAITH and HOPE, helps methodically explain away everything I don't see or understand into something more pallatable. I start with a hypothesis, and work to prove it, no matter the cost, even if it's just a theory. Who cares that evolution is actually called the "theory of evolution", there's hard factual evidence to prove it unequivically, right? I mean, hell, after inertia, physics is a science based entirely on theories!! I bet the fact that Newton was a deeply spiritual man had nothing to do with his very scientific discoveries!! Spar's right..."religion" thinks we are the center of the universe, and even at one time thought were we LITERALLY the center of the universe!! Granted, science thought that we couldn't break the sound barrier, or split the atom, or that evolution was a relay-race from ape to man, or....but we'll get it right eventually, right? That's why I don't believe in wisconsin or europe....because I've never seen it. And, I've done the math, it's statistically impossible that it even exists or ever will. And THAT'S why science out-guns religion everytime!! This is completely unrelated, but does anybody know the definition of irony?
  2. nobody demonstrates the sheer textual dominion of the Power-graph!!! WORDS!!!!111!!!
  3. This has been a well kept secret since the first stages of development of TDM, but due to this TC being close to completion, I've finally been given permission to share the one feature that will seperate this mod from all other video games in history: Simply put, as soon as you create a FM TDM, every person who subsequently downloads your FM will also upload thier I.P. to my computer, after which, if that player is spotted by a guard and killed, I will go to their house, garbed in full medieval armor and long sword, and kill them (not before screaming something like "have at you, knave!!" or "taste my long one!!"). The feature has been cleared with the law enforcement agencies of over 30 countries, and just under 100 more are still pending. Of course, a waiver is being drawn up as we speak. Downloading and playing a TDM made FM will be considered acceptance of terms. Now THAT's realism!!! PHEAR TDM BITCHES!!!111!!
  4. You're telling me!!! I call it "Shock Jock" TM !!!
  5. I prefer to think of myself as omnisexual. To which the many electrical burns on my genitals will attest...
  6. I heard that!! I bought Oblivion BEFORE I built my new PC... Well, not sure if that makes TES IV a great game, or me an idiot... Probably Both!!!
  7. Any word that is used to encapsulate a thought is "consciously invented" at some point, since that is where they originate....out of conscious thought. That we all eventually agree on the meaning of the words we speak is the result of the natural process of linguistic evolution.
  8. I hope this doesn't come across "troll"-esque, but fuck IS a made up swear word. Every word is made up, and given meaning only because we all agree it is so. Simply because "fuck" is much more instantly recognizable, and therefore illiciting more of a response, doesn't give it any more (or less) merit. consider this ad-line for a pornographic film I once saw: "The wettest, wide-open, juice slapping beaver action..." Not a single swear, but the implication (if it can be so called) is crystal clear.
  9. That trailer had it's way with me.... and I LOVED IT!!! That was a -100 (that being the lowest) on the Suck-O-Meter. I'm sure it would've scored 100 on the Not-Suck-O-Meter, but, other than your mod, there's not enough not-suck in the world to warrant the purchase. You guys rule!!
  10. Hey, Bob! I was just kidding. It did kind of sound like you were expecting the world of TDM, but admittedly, so am I, which is why I'm so excited about it. These guys have the chance to do what TDS failed to do in almost every respect: NOT SUCK!!
  11. [uplink established] Of course, nothing will change. There is nothing to fear. Sleep, now. Sleeeep..... [end transmission]
  12. I also want it to do my dishes, clean my laundry, and subdue my insatiable appetite for intercourse. Of course, in the event none of those things are possible, I'd be satisfied with a well cooked meal three times a day. Apart from that, it will be of no interest to me.
  13. Pfft!!! Those are my BORING days when I'm AWAKE. I dream about waking up, going to work, eating lunch, paying bills, going home, and going back to sleep. When you're superhuman, you crave the creature-comforts.
  14. I just want to state for the record that my replies/musings are not with the expectation that this will force the dev team to implement the feature: I see your point, but this is not necessarily the case. It is not always necessary to need a steady aim, especially in (relative) close quarters. This is true in real-life as it can be in game-life. Let's say the feature (manually) were designed with a slight delay (the initial breath-taking), then attempting to let off a quick arrow by having to automatically breath and steady your aim would be self defeating. The player would be at a serious disadvantage if trying to peel off a quick shot (such as trying to deploy a rope arrow or a gas arrow at a mob of persuing guards) and being forced to, without the option, wait for the breath holding sequence. In dire times when the thief would need to "shoot from the hip" (so to speak), there would be no plausible reason why he'd need to, or wish to, hold his breath. BTW: I realise there would already be a delay by simply knocking an arrow Contrarywise, if the player is attmepting a long volley of broadheads, or attempting to snuff a torch with a water arrow at extreme distance, or pinch that little sliver of wood with the rope arrow, manually holding his or her breath could aid in those precious few degrees of stability. I see what you're saying, but my take on the feature is that manually holding your breath would cancel the effects of ANY type of gas, beit from arrows, prox triggers, or traps/trapped rooms. Of course, the avatar would only be able to hold his or her breath for so long, so if you're in a room that continually pumps gas through the grating, then you better get out before you need to take another breath.
  15. In lieu of breath holding, I was speaking about the manual version, not the automatic. More specifically, I was referencing the player setting off a gas arrow, or allowing an AI to set off a prox gas trigger, too close to him or herself. I reread my post, and I realise that I didn't make that clear. That's what I said, though more generally. Fair enough. That particular approach is tried and true.
  16. Fair enough. The proof being in TDM alone, the doom3 codebase is pretty robust (given all you guys have managed to do with it). I'm certain they'll be a whole plethora of little add-ins here and there to spuce up this already exceptional mod. I think my first TDM certified map to introduce the new "hold-breath" key will be our anti-hero's clandestine attempt to steal rare satin toilet paper from a fringe Aristocratic Fetish-Farting Convention.
  17. Spoken with grace and dignity. I have been bested. Fair enough. You're right. I apologize to Spring for the outburst. All right. Well, one scenario in particular is the use of gas arrows. If you have the ability to manually hold your breath, it would cancel the effect on the player character if set off too close. In addition, if something like a gas grenade, or proximity version, is implemented, then manual breath holding could do likewise to the preceding statement. As I said before, it could also be used as a way to silence the player character within ear shot of a hostile a.i.. Of course, that would mean the A.I. would have to be programmed to react to that kind of stimulus, and I'm sure it would open up another can of worms. But with this kind of stimulus/reaction, like darkness suggested, even a whistle or grunt could then aid in steath as a distraction/luring technique, and breath holding would then be necessary in very close proximity to a hostile NPC, even without "guarded" or "alerted" status. There is another more obvious use, such as steadying a drawn bow before releasing the arrow (ala splinter cell, among others). All in all, I think having to manually hold your breath in any situation that would otherwise be automatic (for example swimming underwater) would bare the same benefit as having to manually open and close a door, instead of it automatically opening when you get close (I know there's been discussion of implementing more control over the way you open and close the door, to aid in stealth). In the manual version, you're given more control over your environment, and your avatar, as well as allowing the player to be more delibrate and "lucid" in his or her actions in the game.
  18. That was not "analogy", but "example", and example punctuated to a degree that the tone becomes obtuse. Analogy would be presenting his arguement by saying "that's like saying putting bullet holes in your car enhances the performance". What HE did was present exaggerated examples not only to prove his point, but debase my own.
  19. What I consider obtuse is not your underlying arguement, but the manner in which you presented it. "We are discussing one feature, yes. The only argument FOR it is that it there are one or two scenarios where it might be useful. Since that is equally true for ANY feature--including undesirable ones--then it cannot be considered a good reason to implement this particular feature." This is basic reasoning. "You can come up with a specific situation where ANY feature would be useful. I can come up with scenarios where it would be necessary to kneel, stick one foot way out in front of the other, exhale suddenly, or whistle. That doesn't mean it's a good idea to add new keys so I can do them." This is being obtuse. Besides, what "I was driving at", my quote, and the basis of your obtuse reply, was in reference to the methodology of this particular genre, and how I felt that this particular feature could enhance that. But, as always, I've tried (though not always successfully) to present my arguements with respect; I am fully aware that not all, if any, of my arguements have any merit. That being said, having a valid arguement, and condesending the person to which you are presenting that arguement, for no other the reason than to make the person seem somewhat dim for having a particular and opposite opinion from your own, is not, in and of itself, basic reasoning: this is called being a dick...from where I'm from.
  20. All due respect, Spring, I think you're just being obtuse. We're not discussing ANY feature, we are discussing one, and I happen to believe it could be useful. If you don't, very well, I respect and honor that, and I'll take any objection in the spirit it's given. By that rationale, I should now shit on my keyboard. Quick Edit(add): I agree with Order's quick edit!!
  21. *hic*yew shaddup yew shtupid dumb*hic* Besides, I can never disappear from this place... I'm a Dark Mod Ol' G....BEOTCH!!!
  22. Well put, Gil. Your example is spot on...and is a perfect illustration of what I was driving at. Just as Order put it "lucidy and deduction". Maybe having a "hold-breath" key or invisible gas might be obtuse out of the box, but neither is without merit. Zylon, I see your points across the board, and they're solid, but I disagree that an automated "hold-breath" in proximity to gases and such should be assumed. Even with a timer gauge, like being underwater, there's no real sense of caution, in that I know when I enter a room filled with poison gas, the work is already done for me. There's no real reason for me to be systematic, delibrate, or forward thinking (halmarks of this genre (imho)) because I know the game will think for me. If I'm forced to initiate the action before I enter a room, I'll actually take time to survey my surrounding and "scout the barracks", so to speak. The essence of what made these games great was the methodology behind the gameplay. Again, I'm not saying it should definitely be implemented, but I think having a hold-breath key is preferrable to an automatic system. I love these discussions!!
