  1. A friend of mine recommended me Cédric Ferrand's Wastburg, a novel set in a medieval city-state and told through various members of the city watch, and it's very good. Recommended for fans of Thief and Dishonored (the language is rather crude, so be warned).

Sounds like a good read. Do you know if that would be available in the US as well? I'll see if Amazon has it. Thanks.

Dang. Can't find it in English, and I don't read French.

  2. Here's a cool playthrough video of one of my Quake 1 maps with insightful commentary:

And the commentator is very good also.

I never played any community Quake maps, but seeing this and hearing about how decent these contest packs are is making me want to.

Very beautiful geometry. It reminds me blade of darkness. I would like to play it with a sword and ambient music.

  3. Back To Saturn X Episode 2, a megawad for Doom 2, has a public beta available. It is VERY VERY good. http://www.doomworld.com/vb/wads-mods/69960-back-to-saturn-x-episode-2-public-beta-1/

  4. It's not good to be an actor in 2014: Lauren Bacall, known for her great roles in many classic Noir films, died at 90 years old today.

Whoa. I never imagined she was still alive. She was married to Humphrey Bogart!

  5. If you have an itch for Quake, a 8-level pack was released today, featuring a map by yours truly: http://www.celephais.net/board/view_thread.php?id=61061

DarkPlaces is not a recommended engine since it has huge lightmap issues as demonstrated on your screenshot. Quakespasm is a much better and reliable port and all these maps were made with that port in mind.

      Have you tried mhquake?

I've gotta pickup Quake sometime... The more I've read about it the more interest I have in it. I wasn't PC gaming in college when it came out (too poor)... and never remembered to revisit it when I got a proper PC.

Oh any reason to dust off darkplaces is a good day.

I've been following Tangiers for quite a while now and have pledged to them on Kickstarter. It's definitely something very unique. I'm definately picking up that dark surreal atmosphere that was very prevalent throughout T1.

I've watched a couple of trailers, and cannot for the life of me work out what the game is *actually* about. Something to do with using words? Can anyone explain? I want to say that I like the look of it, but.. I have *no* idea what I'm even looking at..

I believe that in every level you have a target to eliminate. Also when the AI speak you don't hear them but see words coming out of their mouth. You can grab the words and use them as weapons against them. I'm not sure how that works. The whole thing is meant to be very strange and surreal I think. It's probably best not to try and use logic for Tangiers and just try and accept it for whatever it is

Well, this is weird. I dont know whether I should be sad or not. All I know is that it could either lead to something good or lead to something bad.

Probably the thieviest sounding game since TDP. I'm sold.

Looks very minimalistic. This could mean they focus more on gameplay, what would be good. Let's see how it turns out. The art design is definetely awesome.

  10. If some of you own the original Quake, In The Shadows is an awesome stealth mod and has a demo out: http://www.moddb.com/mods/its

Looks cool but the AI is very limited, you can stand in the light almost right in front of them and they don't notice you it seems.

It's distance-related, you are invisible but if you enter a certain radius, they will see you. It's kinda like Dishonored, but the monsters can also see you when their backs are turned.

not bad for such an old engine
