  1. I've never beta-tested for TDM, but I'd be delighted to test for you.
  2. Great video, man! Shared it, of course.
  3. And besides, anything Roy says shows how clueless he is about the franchise and his own game, anyway.
  4. A little obvious thing: you cannot imagine how easy it is to lie to your customers when you are a developer.
  5. While I think the geometry is great I honestly don't really like the outside lighting much. The lampposts give a too unnatural and too blue lighting. You should perhaps aim for something more de-saturated with the lampposts, or try warm orange. It usually works well against dark surfaces. The rest looks mighty fine though.
  6. Nice textures, Melan! Can't wait for your new mission.
  7. The recent announcement of the release of Nadja's new album and the upcoming release of Year of No Light's long-delayed Vampyr reminded me of this thread. So, new band today. And people wanting innovative and unconventional music will have a run for their money. Nadja is a Canadian duo based in Germany that plays some of the most beautiful and dreamy extreme music. They basically play very dense, loud and abrasive drone doom but unlike most similar sounding bands they put an emphasis on amazing dreamy soundscapes rather than evil-sounding, muddy drones like Sunn O))). Note that this is still extreme experimental stuff and definitely not for everyone, and most of their tracks are 20-30+ minutes long and devoid of vocals. They have released more than 20 albums and scouring their discography can be a a pain. What's interesting with them is that, apart from two or three albums and some really average collaborations, they stayed consistently good and even got better with time. Some of their stuff is definitely evil-sounding, but most of their work is really pretty and I really like to fall semi-asleep to their music. The 'entry-level' records I'd recommend are Dagdrøm (featuring live drumming rather than a drum machine, it's one of their least extreme records and by far their most melodic), Radiance of Shadows (extremely evil-sounding, VERY abrasive (the last track is basically a 30-minute glorious wall of noise), it's the total opposite of Dagdrøm), Touched (the 2007 re-record is by the best), Thaumogenesis (very pretty-sounding hour-long track) and Bliss Torn From Emptiness (their best record to date IMO, the original version is pretty cool too but extremely rare to find). Among their good collaborations, Pyramids With Nadja might be the best (very dreamy post-rockish drone doom/ambient with awesome vocals and flawless production) and their very recent kickass collaboration with Vampillia, The Primitive World. Sadly their music is really hard to find on Youtube, and most of their tracks on it are in bad quality. Thus, a link to their bandcamp where you can stream their stuff: http://nadja.bandcamp.com/
  8. Yes, that would help, but I was thinking making it more noisy and giving it more shapes like the one on the left with the rocks, making its surface irregular without exaggerating. Cliffs are quite delicate to make correctly. One of the best cliffs I've seen in a video game so far were in Dear Esther. It's a combination of displacements (I assume you're using patches to make them in Dark Radiant) and models.
  9. This is looking great, guys. If I may, I find the cliff on the right very flat, giving it more depth would help a ton methinks.
  10. As much as the idea of having Stephen Russell voice someone in TDM is beautiful, there's no way it can be done currently. I think Sotha is spot-on. When I'm done with my dromed circle I might return to TDM and do something.
  11. It's not worth it even if it was for free. Avoid at all costs. If you haven't played any Hitman game yet, go for Blood Money.
  12. Hah! I instantly recognized that first picture! Well, we have the same stuff here in France, but since I live 2 kilometers from the Mediterranean we still have the sun, but lots of wind lately. However some of my friends living further north don't even have power in their homes and the snow has been a pain in the ass for a lot of people.
  13. You're thinking of Blackbrook, and it's another city state, not a person. Other city states include Bohn and Cyric too. Bafford got his scepter and other trinkets from Bohn. http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/Blackbrook
  14. I really liked the idea of city sections in TDS, but the execution was piss-poor, like a lot of things in the game. The engine they're using is powerful and capable of doing wonderful things, so there's hope these sections will at least be decent and better than those in TDS. If not, well...
  15. With a release planned for 2014, I'd say there's hope the game will change for the better, because in its current state several things can be easily changed to make this game a reality that will both please fans of the franchise and new players. Still, this rarely happens, sadly.
  16. Oh yeah, my bad, I was reading too fast. Nevermind. I thought you quoted the original misquoted quote from TTLG.
  17. That last quote was misquoted, by the way.
  18. Game Informer confirmed it is indeed a reboot with apparently toned-down magic and next to no undead or other 'supernatural' stuff, which is a shame. At least the game looks gorgeous.
  19. I completely disagree, sorry. In medieval cities you can definitely find high walls like these and sometimes crazy elevation, maybe not as tall, mind you, but pretty similar anyway and I know what I'm talking about. Besides, it doesn't look out of place at all in TDM and Sotha's points are very true. Daytime lighting may make it look 'flat' or something, but I'm sure that with proper night-time lighting it could be more believable for you. I for one would love to roam around in a city such as this in TDM.
  20. Whoah Biker, that looks really neat.
  21. Some of you may know this band, if not, post-rock fans will most probably like it. Year of No Light is a french drone doom/sludge metal band that has a very heavy and atmospheric sound that I find perfect for working. They played the soundtrack to the classic horror film Vampyr live at a festival and are going to release it at a later date, though we've been waiting for a while, heh. They usually play long tracks (10+ minutes) devoid of any vocals. Their first album, Nord, is completely different from their later works but it's still worth checking out. I saw them live two years ago and it was by far the best gig I ever attended; they had two drummers, 3 guitars and 1 bass guitar/keyboard if I remember correctly. It was insane. The last song they played in particular had this very 'brain meltdown' moment. Their best album is Ausserwelt that I own on vinyl. They also did a split record with Rosetta and East of the Wall, two other cool metal bands that are worth checking out. That split in particular is very cool, but the tracks there are more in the vein of Nord than Ausserwelt (more sludge metal than drone doom and with vocals this time). They also recently released a collaborative record with another post-rock band called Thisquietarmy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJ-8umEo8YU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhnkD7YxJ1s
  22. jtr7 is right, though. I am always baffled to see these kind of reactions about the mod, to be honest. I don't think Thievery ever experienced something like this.
  23. I like to draw my own maps when I play through missions, especially when I'm planning to ghost them afterwards. One thing I really like in T2 over T1 is that, as it was said before, you can annotate the map and you even had a note page most of the time.
