Almost five years afterI got it, my Nvidia GTX 560 Ti finally gave up its electronic soul. Despite only having 1 GB of VRAM, the 560 Ti still managed to run many of the latest games at over 30 FPS on high settings. That little card gave me so many incredible gaming memories. I always imagined that I would gracefully retire it after purchasing an upgrade, but the universe obviously had other plans.

Use the 460 for Physx processing? Or for Bitcoin mining?
-
I'd send you my 580 man. It's still a good kicker in most respects. Considering it's age I didn't, "need" to upgrade for how it was performing.
-
@Epifire. That would be so incredible. I'm so blown away, I don't even know what to say! Let's PM on the subject.
-
Just finished building my second elevator. Such a satisfying feeling when it works as intended!
-
Saw the trailer for the Grand Tour. Had to replay the first few seconds because I swear I am hearing the TDM creaky door sound! http://tinyurl.com/j2gdqb4

Wondering about the ETA on 2.05?
-
According to the roadmap page 2.05 is schedule for release on the 26th of December... last year. http://bugs.thedarkmod.com/roadmap_page.php?version_id=73
Looking at that though they're about 1/3 through the list so i'm guessing it's still a while off.
-
Long time lol.
-
Roadmap release dates have always been bogus. No date for 2.05 yet.

Managed to put in a couple of hours into my WIP. Such a great feeling to be making progress once again. :-)
-
Finally starting to settle down in Washington, DC - having moved over from South Africa. I have been away from TDM for quite some time, but I'm hoping that I'll be able to find some time to carry on with my WIP.

Awesome news, hope to see something soon
Hope you get settled in soon

Welcome to the capital of schmooze.
-
Good luck in the States, Dunedain.
-
Should hopefully be sharing some new WIP shots...
-
Anyone else notice that some 'guests' look at really old threads?
-
Building detailed rooms is seriously time consuming. Nevertheless, the battle continues and will (hopefully) soon be over...at least for this room!

It's even worse when you want to make patch models for everything instead of using stock resources x)
-
@Dragofer: Exactly!
@Anderson: Thanks!
-
Modules can help a lot. Build a single detailed wall piece and clone it everywhere. Try to build so that you can easily re-use everything you build. This mentality expedites things greatly.
-
Finally rebuilt all my 'layers' in DR. Thankfully, it went quicker than anticipated. Now, I can get back to mapping!

Being ill really sucks!

Are forum account names permanent? If I wanted to alter mine, how would I go about this - provided it is even possible?

Why the 19 btw?
-
Toni, in that particular case I changed it from threelettersyndrom to 161803398874989. Very different.
-
I like threelettersyndrom more
-
Very interesting video on archery.

Moreover, one of the core aspects of academics is the proper use of citations/referencing, which should ideally never be single-source.
The 2nd video does a good job (even if the tone could appear more reasonable) of highlighting where Lars is "cherry-picking" information to support his claims.
-
Regardless of whether he has truly re-discovered a lost aspect of archery or simply cobbled together a variety of styles still used today, Lars' mastery of the bow is well worth appreciating.
-
I used to call bs on legolas' archery stunts n the hobbit, but after seeing that video i had to stop.
-
Just finished mapping (on paper) out the one floor of my WIP.
-
Nice! Do you have a release date in mind yet?
-
I never even got that far with my one mapping attempt :-/ I kept restarting the plan as if I'd only ever make one map... and so made none. Stick with it!
-
@Goldwell. Not yet!
@Steve:. Thanks for the encouragement, this is my fourth attempt at making a map, and it's the furthest I've gone! So really want to make this one a reality for all of you to enjoy.
-
-
Thoroughly enjoying all the new things in 2.03. Just wish there were more textures (particularly in the wood category)...

Thanks, Goldwell. It's been a while since I looked at the Wiki...I suppose I'll need to download GIMP in order to get the ball rolling?
-
I use gimp to convert the textures to tga and a program called njob to create the normal maps & notepad++ to edit the material file. All of them are free and work great!
-
Tools like njob work extremely well for almost flat and/or noisy structures like wood. For more complex textures like a wall of bones for instance, you'd have to generate a heightmap semi-manually in order to get decent results. It's all explained in the wiki, however!

I do not at present, Sir Taffsalot. There are so many elements that have to come together before I even reach the Beta. Brainstorming this weekend has given me even more rooms to build, which all make perfect sense for the narrative. If anything, I'm hoping to finish up the primary architecture within the next two weeks. But even that estimate is a stretch, because I do not want to burn out on TDM (which happened last year).
-
If like me you had no mapping experience before making your first TDM FM then it does feel like learning everything that's involved in making a working FM is an awful lot. I found that once I got my first FM completed making others became a lot easier. Saying that though, there is still an awful lot I can learn.
-
And even after several missions it still takes an awful amount of time.

Suffering from "mapper's-block" :-(

Whenever I get that I play through some Thief/TDM FM's and I find the inspiration starts comes back rather quickly
-
You could always decide what kind of room you want to build and then just go for it. It may take more tidying up but it'll most likely be more innovative than it would have been if you bogged yourself down with planning every inch out before you started. It's kinda like when drawing: don't focus on the overall drawing of the room, focus on its constituent parts one by one and accommodate any flare you pick up along the way. That's how you develop a style!
-
What I do in that case is to stop mapping until the itching in my fingers becomes unbearable.
If you still want to increase your skills during such phases, I suggest trying to get into other TDM related tasks. Shaders, scripting, etc...
There is much to learn.

Grayman's WS2 has taken the bar that WS1 set and raised it even higher! Phenomenal work! Can't wait for WS3!
