Even though my dog could be annoying as hell sometimes, putting her down yesterday was the hardest thing I've ever done as an adult.

Putting down your pet is hard, but watching it dying in suffering is way more traumatic.
From other side my cat had serious kidney dysfunction and needed drip every few days -but against veterinarian's prognosis my cat had recovered. So it can be hard to decide when to give up.

At least you were there to let her know that it was time for her to move on...I've been in the same position. Not one I like to revisit often. I did however make audio recordings of the animal while she was still alive so she lives on digitally forever.
