  1. Hey All, I've been viewing the boards as a guest for quite some time now and I hate for this to be my first post, but it is what it is. I'm a huge fan of the thief fanchaise and I'm tickled to see this group investing their lives into a mod that resembles the feel/formula that made the orginal Thief such a masterful game. Anyhow I want to say thank you to everyone who has contributed to this mod's development. Its a great achievement and a jewel to the Thief Community; keep up the fantastic work! Now onto the subject of my post. I didn't see an offical technical problem thread so I figured I'd start one in the hopes that it would consolidate such issues for future troubleshooting for the users and be a means of tracking them for the mod developers. I've just recently installed the TDM: St. Lucia Mod/Map =D. The problem is I'm suffering from some issues. Background about my Rig & Doom3 w/o St. Lucia. - Rig - Make / Model: Custom OS: Vista Ultimate - 64bit - (SP1) CPU: Quad Core Q9550 Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 - (Drivers: Catalyst 8.10) RAM: G.Skill DDR2-800 - (8gig) Motherboard: Asus Rampage Formula - (Chipset: Intel X48) SoundCard: Asus Supreme FXII - (PCI-x card shipped w/ mobo) Monitor: Dual Monitors **Hardware Drivers Updated: 1 month ago. Doom 3 Specifications: Doom 3: Version - 1.3.1.1304 *verified using console* -Able to run Doom3 w/o any problems. St Lucia Video Settings: Screen Size: 1600x1200 Aspect Ratio: 4:3 V-sync: No Antialiasing - Off Ambient Rendering - Standard When I loaded St. Lucia, all the menus / load screens worked well. As soon as I entered the level all the ground / terrain & most building textures were Black. I could see vegetation, static mesh objects like wagons / barrels / pallets / boxes, and the sky box appeared error free. I could also see 2 different building textures, a cross hatched wood type texture and a wood grain texture, the rest of the building textures were black. I would have taken a screenshot of it, but I don't know how =D. I tried adjusting the gamma but it had no affect on the ground / terrain textures. Then after I tried to exit the game for the first time, it crashed and left a light grey screen and I had to hard reset my computer because it was completely locked. There was no error message that I could relay to you either. Since then I have not been able to repeat this crash. I hope this is enough detail to start with. I'd be more than happy to provide more details. I'm just out of ideas and would need a bit more direction. On the topic of screen resolution, are there any plans of supporting widescreen such as the 16:10 / 16:9 resolutions in the future?
  2. Including the training mission, most of them just return to the objectives screen after the loading bar is full or just hang on the load screen. St Lucia on the other hand says to press "Attack" to start, which is Left Mouse button but nothing happens. Tried pressing all the keys and nothing happens. So far this is just fancy front end where nothing happens. 3. Hello. Since update to 2.07 i´ve played the missions from a to b. I haven´t played all, but i noticed some really strange behavior, which it makes it nearly impossible to play a few levels. I play all levels on hard. Alberiques Curse- The golden book falls through the floor. You can still grab it, but it is "invisible". If you play the level for the first time, it is impossible to get it. For try i restarted the mission and rushed there. In front of me the book fall through the bottom of the altar. King of Diamonds- Two hard crashes. Hard restart from pc. To get in the attic you need a key. One of the main characters wears it. Normally the guy walks through his house. But at my play he was stuck between the chair and the desk in his attic-room. Oh dear. I had noticed via noclip. So, it makes it unplayable. The missionobjective can´t be solved. I retried it several times and the result remains the same. The guy is running at one spot between his furniture. Full Moon Fever - This isn´t really a problem, but it´s not good for your ears. Several levels have this. It´s a a sound problem, maybe bug. You hear close to special light spots a sinus-sound. I own a creative SB Recon 3D PCIe, latest driver, win 7. Better gameplay on my laptop, no disturbing sounds. And on some situations, there are Biep-sound. When an object is "hopping" above the ground. Or a door is opened. Not really annoying, but striking. Many other levels run fine. Few crashes sometimes. I can´t tell what makes that trouble. It could be that "frob" problem again. In most every level objects are falling half the way into the ground. People get stuck. I can´t really tell, but on my opinion, it worked better on 2.05 and 2.06 ... I made a clean installation of the game and made no changes in the adjustments. Except screen resolution and gamma correction. What´s your experience? What do you think? Solutions? Greetings.
  4. Hi everyone. I have a very strange problem with TDM. I can only describe it by saying that 3d graphics are "distorted" in a very weird way. I would like to take a screenshot, but the print screen key merely copies a grey rectangle to the clipboard, and pressing F12 does not seem to save a screenshot anywhere that I can find in the doom 3 directory, nor in my user profile directory. If you imagine looking at the pillars at the start of the training mission... for me it appears that the center of the screen has been shifted and stretched towards the right edge of the screen. Thus nothing seems to line up and the perspective of the scene looks very strange. Objects only seem to highlight if they are positioned towards the right edge of the screen as well. This happens with a variety of different screen resolutions, both in 4:3 and my monitor's native 16:10 aspect ratios. The bug does not seem to happen when just running Doom 3 by itself. My video card is an ATI Radeon HD 4980. I'm using the 9-12 driver version. I am downloading 10-1 at the moment and will try it later. My operating system is the 64-bit version of Vista Home Basic SP2. While I'm here, there is another problem. The tdmlauncher.exe in the darkmod directory does not work; it only launches Doom 3. I followed the advice on the FAQ and created a shortcut to "D:\Apps\Steam\Steam. exe -applaunch 9050 +set fs_game_base darkmod" which does launch TDM, but TDM does not recognise previously-installed FMs. For instance, I have to install the tutorial level every time I run the game. Looking at the doom 3 folder, I see 'training_mission' and tdmlauncher.log (attached) are being created in "D:\Apps\Steam\steamapps\ common\doom 3"--perhaps that is a clue?
  5. I had this problem - I got music but a black screen - on Ubuntu 12.04. I fixed it by doing: sudo apt-get install driconf Run driconf, and on the "Image Quality" tab, set "Enable ST3C texture compression even if software support is not available" to "Yes". Close driconf. Then, the menu worked. (Although it's still not setting the screen resolution back to the original resolution when it quits...) Hope this helps someone. Gerv
  6. Well, I FINALLY managed to get my grabbers on a copy of Doom3 (not to mention a computer that'd run it?) and got it set up last night. Got the darkmod running and downloading and left that overnight. When I came back this morning, I was looking forward to playing. -sigh- The thing is RUNNING fine. But looks. . .not quite so nice. I seem to be missing some textures in certain area. I tried with the training mission and with the Santa Lucia mission and both have the same problem. Things seem to play alright, but these dark areas are a little. . .odd, especially the ones you have to walk through. Some environmental issuse The torches The crates And some grounding textures I've tried changing various settings, gamma, etc, and these seem entirely uneffected. If I totally wash out the screen - I get really light environments with black blocks like this. I tried turning effects on and off. No change. The torches are the oddest, as the squares around the flames are actually moving. And in the Santa Lucia mission there was a shelf that had a bunch of black squares flying out of it like it was infested or something. Any help for this issue? I've got the Doom 3 BFG Edition - if that counts for anything. Thanks! I'm looking forward to getting this all fixed so I can settle back and play. Been wanting to try the DarkMod for a good long while now. Though I see you are all working on a stand-alone version. Honestly, I think that'll be a LOT better in the long run. Wish I could offer some help there, but I'm only *just* starting learning the whole 3d/modelling thing now that I have a computer again. Got Blender, now I have to figure out what to do with it.
  7. Still not quite cured... Same Closemouthed Shadows replication except the compass renders correctly until you enter the room with the fireplace where the compass turns black.
  8. My folder was set to read only. I changed that and I got a different error. An Open GL error. I tried a different mission and it went back to the blue screen. I have tried a couple more times and it's just blue screen again. Something odd happens: I uncheck the read only part, but when I click again, it's back on read only. I changed the permissions on the folder to give myself full control, but the problem persists. I tried the solution on the Microsoft website to remove read only and make it a system folder, but that didn't make any difference. I am the owner of the file. I guess it's a graphics card issue, which is odd because my old GPU was inferior to this one. I am running TDM 2.03. I have the latest motherboard drivers. However, I am using version 340.52 drivers that came with my GPU because the latest drivers (and other more recent ones) caused serious issues with my PC. I ran TDM update. It just downloaded the mirror files. I cannot post the CFG file.
  9. Hello. Sometimes when I jump in the water, 3/4 of the screen is "captured" in a freeze frame while the lower left 1/4 continues to show what's actually happening to me. This seems to have an approx. 50/50 chance of happening every time I dive into the drink. I am not quite sure what is causing it. I have attached a summary of my system specs and graphics hardware to this post. I am using the latest TDM version (2.07). GFX Info.pdf System Info.pdf
  10. Hi Guys, when i'm playing big FMs like Crucible of Omens, I have to play with downsize options to avoid crash : seta image_downSizeLimit "512" seta image_downSizeBumpLimit "128" etc... But playing with this config, I have visuals bugs, like flames appears black, or water surface effect working only in a small square at the left bottom of the screen. I've been able to disable those bugs by using toggle commands like : bind "i" "toggle r_skipambient" bind "o" "toggle r_skipnewambient" bind "p" "toggle r_skipPostProcess" But there is only one bug that I can't handle, it's the water effect when you swim INTO the water : it's not easy to describe, it's like the shader effect is zoomed at maximum, the level is tilted and appears twice as large, it's very difficult to navigate into water. (the same bug appears with sky textures or mirror reflection) I almost found a solution : when using noclip, the water effect is totally disable but the speed of the player is way too slooow and I can't navigate like this. So does someone know a way to disable the water effect ?
  11. I just checked at a range of screen resolutions and aspect ratios - it is the same on all of them Note that my screen is a standard 16:10 ratio I also tried the same thing with windows selected as opposed to full screen and it is the same
  12. I'd especially be interested in hearing more detailed instructions from Dead Rat, as he seems to have had the exact same problem and successfully solved it. I just wasn't able to follow the instructions, I think I need a little more detail. I know what the name of the light is that makes the sound, but don't know how to find that in the Sound Editor screen. The instructions mentioned something about left-clicking on the light in the game window, but most times I try that, the game just freezes when I try to get close to the yellow box and then just left click.
  13. Well, I was thinking that may be the case, as when I'm in that editSounds screen, a lot of the entries under it play a tone that sounds a lot like the constant tone emitted from the troublesome lights. I'm attaching a picture of the screenshot of one of the many lights in "Lords & Legacy" that emits the tone, and also a link to a video capture of me in the Sound Editor, clicking on the various sounds in the one section that play the tone. You can also hear the constant tone of the lights/biground1_streetlamp_4fold_snd lamp in the background, underneath my clicking the sections, as the game is running. This really leads me to believe my install is missing base package sound files that a lot of these levels that have electric lights in them may be referring to. As a way to test, is there way for me to place dummy sound files in a location inside the level's folder, or inside my base install, to see if I can get them to show up? Again, still not really familiar with how the innards of Dark Mod works at all, but willing to put in more effort to get this resolved! DM didn't always have this problem, but couldn't say at what point (OS or DM upgrade) it started happening. http://download.lavadomefive.com/dmsoundeditor.mp4
  14. I updated to 1.05 from 1.04 and afterward I could not get missions to load properly, even training. I removed everything, downloaded/installed 1.05 from scratch. I had no missions installed, installed the training, then while the training was loading, I had an error regarding my video card driver. I have intergated Intel 82945G Express chipset family gpu, Vista home sp2 running. Doom 3 is from Steam, and it runs fine, even the resurrection of evil addon pack. I have the most recent video drivers for this Intel chipset installed via HP update. Not sure what tweaking I can do to my TDM configuration to work well with the video chipset. I was fine on earlier versions of this TDM. This problem happened on TDM fms also. During the loading screen "please wait" screen all seems fine, then I hear the sounds of the torches in the background, the screen changes to black, then Windows tells me the video driver had an issue and had to recover. From event viewer: Faulting application Doom3.exe, version 1.0.0.1, time stamp 0x45ad459a, faulting module ig4dev32.dll, version 7.14.10.1461, time stamp 0x47e9296a, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0002e4cb, process id 0x169c, application start time 0x01cbfc51e27d9fe4. Can anyone shed some light?
  15. Hello Good Thieves, I'm playing the Dark Mod for the first time with your new 1.08 release -- and wow, what fun! Compared to classic Thief, I especially love the new movement capability and object interactivity. So I was merrily playing along when the training mission stopped loading for me. In addition, I can't get Lucia to load either. I've played through most sections of the training mission without any problems (I loved the jumping and climbing area... all sorts of nooks and crannies to explore!). And then I played through Melan and Bikerdude's Return to the City (great fun!). Then I used the in-game mission browser and downloader to download a few new missions. It all appeared to work fine. Then I went back to the training area just because I hadn't played through all areas yet. But this time it won't finish loading. It reaches the point where the progress bar completes and the screen changes to "preparing to load your mission" or something like that... then it puts me back at the objectives screen, except the objectives screen is blank. I click start again and the whole cycle starts again. I dug through the forum and the wiki for a solution, and the one thing I found that might have helped was to delete the currentmission text document and all the files and folder for the non-functioning mission (except the .pk4 file, in this case training_mission.pk4). Then reinstall from within the Dark Mod. I did all that, but I still got the same incomplete loading result. I went back to see if Return to the City still loaded fine... and it does. No problem. After a disappointing sigh, I tried to install St. Lucia. It appeared to install fine, and it even appeared to mostly load fine. But right at the point where you click the fire button to start the mission, it locks up. It's a hard lock, where I can only get out with some ctrl-alt-deleting and a reboot. Once again, I tried loading Return to the City just to make sure the mod was working on the whole, and once again, it loaded just fine. The only thing I did between the time the Training Mission loaded fine and stopped loading was 1) play another mission (Return to the City) and 2) Download some new missions through the in-game Mission browser and downloader. Any suggestions for how to fix this or should I just try re-installing the Dark Mod altogether? I put a couple of hours into the Training Mission on two different nights without any problem, so it's bizarre to me that it would just stop working. Anyways... still love everything I've seen so far and I even love how I can explore and download new missions without leaving the game. Neat-o. Thanks!
  16. No, the black thumbnail is for D3D applications running in exclusive fullscreen. You can check @runtime if a D3D application is running in BWF or not by that. I don't know for OpenGL ones.
  17. Is the the only difference? The black thumbnail? Try r_fbo 0/1 and restart TDM.
  18. For OpenGL applications maybe there are some more quirks (driver-related / MS specification for OGL drivers-related), for D3D just press WIN button+TAB ! *non-exclusive -> you'll see the active thumbnail *exclusive -> black (blank) thumbnail
  19. I have never run any games from cinnamon, so I am not familiar with whichever utility it uses to configure the screens in Mint. But... You might want to give kscreen a shot. You would need to install KDE or Plasma and run that desktop instead of cinnamon. If KDE(4), you will then need to install 'kscreen', replacing kde's default screen config utility. Plasma(5) uses kscreen by default. In kscreen, you can easily set the screens up, with DP-3 disabled and DP-0 as primary (left) and DP-1 secondary. I do not know if this would solve the issue with TDM, but kscreen might force the laptop screen to stay disabled and DP-0 to remain primary. Just an experiment you might want to try.
  20. Thanks duzenko. Although that tip didn't directly solve my problems, it did lead me to the right documentation. For anyone having similar issues, what ultimately did the trick for me was going to TheDarkMod.exe>Properties>Compatibility > Change_high_DPI_settings > High_DPI_Scaling_Override where I checking the box for "override high dpi scaling behavior" and selecting "application" from the pull down menu. Prior to this I had also turned off AA in TDM, in favor of forcing AA through the nvidia control panel, and I set r_nvidiaOverride 0 and r_useFBO 0 in the game console. (In case any of those were contributing factors.) Currently I'm running in 1920x1080 fullscreen, on all maxed settings (except AA of course), and getting good performance. I have noticed some minor shadow flickering from turning off FBO, but it's not a big deal. Considering turning off FBO also cleared up a graphical glitch I was getting where some water surfaces had periodic horizontal black lines and extra layer of texture, I consider this a win. Plus it sounds like a lot of these issues will be getting fixes for the next update. So thanks again.
  21. thx... i waited until i saw thedarkmod.x86. Now.. i get it to run... (without wine?) it shrinks the work space down to the games window then is full screen for the game. Funny thing though, If/when i quit the game the desktop resolution is not restored to its orginal resolution. In other words the desktop is all large and if have to move my mouse to each edge of the screen and it moves until i get to the extreme edge of the work space. Is there a work-around for this? Do i need to run Darkmod with PlayOnLinix (tried it seems to do the same thing)? 22. Hello! I've been having a host of weird AA/ graphics problems with 2.06. Ill post them here and create bug reports when necessary (sorry if these are redundant in other threads) Windows 10. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980. (Latest drivers) TDM 2.06 (Both 32 and 64 bit) Problem 1- AA forces fullscreen - While in windowed mode + (advanced render features off / SS/ Post/ect) - If I click AA on, it forces fullscreen mode even after restart. I have to disable AA and then restart to get back into window mode. Problem 2- AA and my skyboxes -While AA is turned on + (forced fullscreen, advanced render features off). My skyboxes get this weird windowed effect in them. If I turn bloom on, the effect is very noticeable and creates a huge FPS drop. Some screenshots: Cauldron: With Bloom: Volta and the Stone: with bloom: I did try removing the fog light I use in the skybox, but the problem persisted. Problem 3- Water shader - All advanced features off including AA. I get these very weird black lines on my water shader. Material file: volta_water_material.txt I want to make sure these are legit mod bugs before filing reports, so please let me know if you have the same problems or if these are already filed and being tracked. Thanks!
  23. I recently dowloaded the new version 2.7 of the dark mod . the game runs fine . But my screen is to dark. And the brigtness and gammasettings in the game does not work .. But it works fine in my older games like the thief series(ecxept returm to castle wolfenstein . that uses a mod) . I recently upgraded my nvdia geoforce . And I am microsift beta tester. I am using windows 10 19h build 18334(and I cannot revert back windows.old . these files are deleted ). I suspect that its my nvidia that overwrites the games setting .I have tried to reert back older version . But that dosent help either ... So I need help . In
  24. Hmm... http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Resolutions r_fovRatio is supposed to override your aspect ratio setting to allow custom ratios for wide-screen (etc).
  25. Are you running TDM in a window or in full screen?
