  1. I am not sure but I believe that ReShade offers a temporal or morphological AA solution which might be much cheaper than using in-game MSAA. Given your high screen resolution, I am surprised that 8x MSAA isn't sufficient. One thing that MSAA doesn't cover is shader aliasing and transparency so cranking up to 16x won't help there. If ReShade doesn't have the needed options, you can also try forcing AA in your Nvidia driver settings. People complain about the blurry nature of FXAA but with really high pixel DPI it should have minimal degradation to image clarity. Try setting MSAA to 4x and forcing FXAA for transparency coverage and see if the results are acceptable. Depending on your aptitude with ReShade settings you might prefer it's SSAO and lighting mods... but I will humbly submit that you can improve the sense of scene depth with my own Fresnel Mod: https://www.moddb.com/mods/the-dark-mod/addons/fresnel-mod-211-unofficial Also you can achieve something similar to the ReShade HDR by modifying the r_postprocess cvars : https://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Advanced_TDM_Visuals_Tweaking Setting r_postprocess_colorCurveBias to something like 0.2 or 0.25 should make the game look more like your ReShade screens but obviously ReShade has many more customization options for color behavior so you have more control there ( with some additional expense due to increased shader parameters ). Note: Some options from that article are gone in favor of a newer bloom implementation controlled by r_bloom settings.
  2. I can confirm this. The first time I tried it on "Collateral" everything worked fine. On the second try I didn't wait until all the buttons on the "Mission failed" screen appeared and after the quickload it replaced the main menu. So maybe it only happens if you reload within a certain time after the Fail screen comes up. Can someone try this?
  3. I'm running antergos linux. The game is installed, I've changed my resolution in the config file, and everything seems fine, until I load up the game. As soon as I get to the opening menu, my mouse locks to the edges of the screen, and it's nigh impossible for me to move it anywhere else. I've looked through a ton of different articles but nothing seems to help. A fix would be greatly appreciated. I cannot use the ingame config because I can't move the mouse to click on anything. I've tried running it in windowed only to have the same thing happen. I've posted this same thread on reddit but didn't really get a lot of help.
  4. When I have a crash on TDM 2.03 I find that the screen display is very light and the only way I can fix it is to log off from Windows 7 and log on again Is there another way round it as I assume that a change made by TDM isn't reverting to the previous standard setting
  5. Hello, I'm trying to run TDM in 16:9 (1920x1080) on a Samsung C49RG94 32:9 monitor. What I want to achieve is not widescreen play (which is working), but I want to play TDM in 16:9 centered with black bars on each side. The PBP (picture by picture) of the monitor doesn't seem to support this (left or right side only, but not centered) and the monitor software "Easy Setting Box" also does not seem able to achive this. So I'm looking for way to either run TDM in fullscreen or in window mode with black bars on each side. In window-mode the two best programs I have found so far were listed here: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Glossary:Borderless_fullscreen_windowed - Borderless Gaming (not the also listed Windowed Borderless Gaming) and - Simple Runtime Window Editor Both were capable to bring TDM in window-mode without borders and disabled windows taskbar in the center of the screen. But the problem, that the rest of the desktop is still visible remains. Is there any known way to run TDM in (preferred) full screen mode with black bars left and right so that it runs in 1980x1080 (or 2560x1440) in 16:9 on a 32:9 widescreen monitor? Currently, if you set a lower aspect ration than that of the monitor, TDM stretches the display (Subnautica for example shows black bars in this case). If that's not possible, is there any known way how to bring the window-mode to show black bars on the side or some comparable reasonable workaround (which doesn't require to delete every icon, permanently hide the taskbar and the set the desktop to black)?   6. I'm guessing this needs to be run in the windows command shell? In any case that's what I did. I only get a black screen with no music, left it for a while, clicked pressed alt+ctrl+², got nothing, no console, no map, no music, just a black screen. I decided to test a little further and started the game normaly, tried to launch the in-game console but it wouldn't appear neither. So I rolled back to the versions that worked and launched the command that you gave and it worked, on 2.07 the map launches but on 2.09 it does not. I even changed some of the cfg lines to check it out but no luck.
  7. I've a black screen when I start the training mission, I can hear the sounds but no graphics. My system specs are: Pentium IV 1.6 GHz 512 RAM 64 MB Video Card I can run Doom 3 fine, albeit with low settings and a few tweaks on the configs here and there. Were my config tweaks the problem? Or is it because of the fact that TDM doesn't have Quality options? If so, how can I fix this?
  8. This may have been asked before but I didn't find it Whenever I take a screen shot I always have to lighten in to make the detail visible and looking at other posts it seems I am not alone in seeing this effect I suppose the next question is - can this be fixed
  9. Hi everyone, my first post here. I've been playing this game for a long time, and I'd like to start by thanking you all for your amazing work. After years of problem free TDM gaming, I recently upgraded to a new PC. I was really looking forward to playing some of my favourite missions on a better rig. Unfortunately, I encountered a problem. I start the game, select a mission and press start. When the loading bar finishes, and it says 'mission loaded, please wait', I get a blue screen of death and the PC resets. My PC works normally otherwise, and other games run fine. I tried out a few different missions, and I also tried some different graphics settings, but the problem is the same. I looked in the FAQ but couldn't find anything relevant to my issue; I tried a search too with the same results. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My PC's specs are: Windows 7 N 64-bit SP1 Intel Core i3 4370 @ 3.80GHz 8.00GB RAM MSI H81M-E33 motherboard 2GB NVIDA GeForce 610 The error message from event viewer was: The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000116 (0xfffffa8008d08010, 0xfffff8800f3b793c, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000002). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: . Unfortunately, I cannot find the .dmp file.
  10. The problematic uniform is the color of the object. Set it to NaN, and the whole object fills with NaN, bloom blurs it over larger area. Set it to zero, and the whole object turns black, bloom does not do anything with it. If the issue happened to the same objects every frame, then users would not notice they have e.g. black health potions. But the issue happens on random frames, so user will see red potion flickering black.
  11. Hi guys, Sorry if this has been asked before; I couldn't find anything when I searched. I have two 19" monitors connected to my Linux laptop which has a nVidia card. When the secondary monitor is a duplicate of the primary, TDM runs fine at the native resolution (1280x1024), and I can see the game running duplicated on both monitors. But when the secondary monitor is set to be the extended desktop (at the right of the primary), TDM starts with blank screen, both monitors reporting "no signal". I can hear the music and mouse sound effects. Hitting the console key and tying exit shuts down the game, but the monitors don't recover. The only way is killing xserver or force-fully shutting the machine. Simply turning off the second monitor before starting the game doesn't help, same behaviour happens. This is quite inconvenient as I basically have to keep my second monitor disabled in order to be able to play TDM. Is there any way to have extended desktop and have TDM run on the primary monitor? Spec: TDM 2.03 (already made sure all the files validate and are up to date) Linux Mint 17.3 (64 bit), Cinnamon desktop Dell Precision M4500, 2 x Intel® Core i7 CPU Q 740 @ 1.73GHz, 4GB RAM NVIDIA Corporation GT215GLM [Quadro FX 1800M] (rev a2), running driver 340.96 Thanks in advance.
  12. ***SOLVED*** See Steps Quoted in bottom post Hi, I am running Linux Mint 17.1, MATE desktop and compiz. My system (64 bit) has onboard Intel HD3000 video chip. I used the updater downloaded from the site to install the darkmod updater into a darkmod folder in home as per the instructions. I checked and my system does have the ia32-lib installed. The install seemed to go without hitch, on running the updater, files just began appearing in my darkmnod folder. However, when I try to start TDM by doubleclicking thedarkmod.x86, I hear the sounds and can hear my mouse scrolling over options and the music is playing fine. But the whole screen is black and I had to to a hard shutdown to get out. I have searched around, but only see suggestions of changing a doom config file (which I don't have with this standalone version) I also saw some mention of various screen resolutions. I am running on a laptop with a secondary monitor (laptop is closed and the laptop screen is disabled) set at 1920x1080 via VGA (HDMI port is toast) Is there something I am missing? Maybe a setting in the Darkmod.cfg file? Is there a way to get out of TDM without a hard shutdown? Some keystroke, as I try different things to see if I can get this working for my system?   13. I have a 1080p Samsung plasma set for 1:1 pixel mapping at 1080p. When I boot up tdm at 16:9 1080p only 2/3 of the game is displayed, scaled to cover the entirety of my screen. Amd 7970 with latest driver.
  14. So I just installed Dark Mod for the first time, and the first time I launched it, it was fine except for the fact that it was windowed instead of fullscreen. I changed the resolution to 1920x1080, and I think I changed the option that said "automatically open unlocked doors", and then I quit the Dark Mod so that the resolution changes would take effect. Now, whenever I restart Dark Mod, all I get is a black screen : ( I don't know what in the world is going on.. I even deleted my doomconfig.cfg file out of the darkmod folder because I figured that Dark Mod would just put a default config back in there when I started it again and it didn't detect doomconfig.cfg. However, although it did replace the file, it looks as though it kept the resolution at 1920x1080 so it didn't seem to go back to default. What's going on here? I play other mods at 1920x1080 no problem.. and I really want to play Dark Mod lol : /
  15. so I just downloaded the game but every time i boot it up it doesn't work my device is the ASUS x550c it only shows a grey screen i have the intel(R) Core I3 Inside and the Intel (R) HD Graphics 4000
  16. Well, I'm wondering if anyone can help me here. Here's the problem: - Installed Doom 3, patched it to 1.3.1.1304 (checked with console), also installed Resurrection of Evil. Note that I can run Doom 3 at pretty high graphics settings without any problems, so I guess I meet the hardware requirements for TDM, too. - Downloaded torrent version of TDM, extracted it into specified directory. Also downloaded some of the missions and put them into the proper directory. - Started up TDM, and at this point it still worked fine. - Chosen to install the Tutorial. The program restarts, but this time I have a black screen with only the mouse cursor visible (and it moves), and the TDM menu music playing. If I move around the cursor, I get some sound effects which I guess indicate me rolling over menu options, but of course I can't see that. - Since I can't see anything, the Exit button included, I can only leave the program by Alt-Tabbing out of it. Further attempts to run TDM (including after a reboot of the computer) produce the same black screen with working cursor and music. My specs: WinXP Intel Duo CPU E7600 @ 3.06 GHz ASUSTek motherboard 4 Gb RAM GeForce 9600 GT GPU Any help would be appreciated.
  17. I have two screens, one bigger and one smaller. Unfortunately my hardware selects the smaller one as the primary one, which seems to translate over into some full screen applications, which then always run on the smaller screen (which uses DVI, as opposed to the larger screnn which uses HDMI). This is the case for TDM. I have taken a look through the Darkmod.cfg, but there seems to be no way to set a preferred screen or something like that. Is there any way to specify which monitor I want to play TDM on? I've got an NVidia GeForce GTS 250 and am playing on Debian testing. Selecting a primary display in the NVidia X Server Settings doesn't help.
  18. The title says it all.... I just got myself a dual monitor setup, with a cheap display on the left side (DVI) and a better display on the right side (VGA/HDMI). The right side display is my main display, and the one I would like to run Darkmod on. The game is set to run full screen, and it ALWAYS opens on the left monitor. Is there something in the game that makes it run on the wrong monitor? I googled the problem and found no workable solutions, but other people did complain that only some games did this, so I'm guessing it's possible, but I don't really have any idea how to fix this. Running Kubuntu 14.04 LTS, with Nvidia's drivers.
  19. Playing in several different missions, it seems that black or very dark areas of the screen seem to take on a bluish-gray tinge, and stand out very strongly. This is visible in a variety of places - dark portions of wall near windows or sky; the spaces between cobblestones or other patterns and guards in shadow are especially so. It's less apparent in sections of the screen near my character, and also more apparent on the top half of my monitor than the bottom half. I've fiddled with my ingame brightness and gamma, turned the LOD up and down, recalibrated my monitor's display, and installed the most recent video drivers, but it still persists, both ingame and in screenshots. Black areas on other people's videos and screenshots appear normal, so I don't think my monitor itself is the problem. My video specs are: Video card:AMD Radeon HD 6700 Monitor: SyncMaster 920NW/920LM (I do have it set to 32bit color) I've also attached a screenshot; the wall in the mid-right of the image looks bluish-grey and is more visible than it should be.
  20. Hey guys I just installed TDM for the first time, after seeing it released as a standalone game. I am running Win 8.1 on an older pavilion g7 hp laptop with intel hd graphics and an i3 core. At first the game seemed to work, I was able to get to the main menu and even change the resolution settings. However as soon as I tried restarting the game to make the changes happen, it returned to leave me with a black screen. Just to reiterate: when I start the game now, the screen turns black, the resolution of the screen changes to 640x480 and a few seconds in I can hear the menu music and the scroll-over sounds of the buttons. I can only quit by using the Taskmanager. I tried all sorts of compatibility settings and I am running the game as administrator. in addition, I have already deleted the .ini and cfg files to let the updater download newer versions, to no avail. I appreciate any help I can get, because I really want to play TDM!

  22. First thanks for providoing such great game! Following the instruction at www.thedarkmod.com/download-the-mod/ I download the tdm_update.linux. It looks ok in updating process because no error message found. When launching the game, the screen becomes blank/ black, but the sound is playing.   25. Can someone reproduce this bug? See screenshots - when I have finished a mission, it´s not showing the "finished" mark, even if it is finished, as you can see on the shots. It´s always the same line on screen, where the mission has no "finished" mark. Maybe something to revise in one of the next TDM-updates, if not already known/worked on?
