  1. I have just downloaded TDM using the installer/downloader but I'm having a problem that doesn't appear to be listed anywhere. I've searched these forums, I've gone through the installation guide and the FAQ but everything that seems to be for the problem I have hasn't helped. Basically, when I load the mod I get the music playing but the screen is totally black. I can see the mouse pointer and I can hear the sounds as I pass it over the buttons but I can't see a damn thing. When I bring up the console I can see that there were 166 warnings during loading saying 'could not load image', so my guess is that the game can't find the images and so it's just using blank ones instead. I have followed the installation instructions, I am running the 1.3.1 patch, I've added commands into the DoomConfig.cfg file as mentioned in the FAQ, I've also switched the Thread Optimisation off under the NVidia control panel. But it's not working... Any help would be greatly appreciated. [edit] I just thought, someone is probably going to ask for my system spec, so: Intel Core 2 Duo - 3ghz, 4 Cores 4gb DDR3 (that's physically installed memory) NVidia GForce GTS 250 1gb (driver version 197,13) Windows XP Home (32bit)
  2. Strange, normally the driver should be in the software-list called "NVidia Drivers" or similar. At least it shows up there in Windows 2000/XP. The first Screen in Driver Sweeper just shows you a list of options, the ATI Drivers happen to be on top of the list. After you uninstalled the driver and are in safe-mode, you can check the "NVidia Display" checkbox here, then click on "Analyse" and after it's done on "Clean".
  3. Your welcome, but better perhaps to fix what ever in DR is conflicting with this setting..? I have another rather obscure question regarding DR.. I have 2 systems: C2Q 3.2ghz, 8800GTS/HD5870, Vista/7, 20" CCFL LCD C2D 2.7ghz, 8400M_GS, Vista, 12" LED LCD On the first system I have noticed a strange almost imperceptible lag when moving rotating/moving in camera view, as if the view in DR is playing catchup by about 0.25-0.5 second. I have changed the Mouse, the mouse driver, the screen refresh etc and none made a difference. Yet on the second system (my laptop), there is no lag at all. Untill just now it never dawned on me that it could be input lag on 20" monitor, so what do you lot think, possible? if so what test could I run to test the input lag on both machine to test this theory.
  4. I'm looking forward to playing "The Builder's Influence", but I thought I'd better ask this first... At the very start of the mission there is an on-screen warning: "Warning: AAS32 is out of date!" What does it mean, and can it be safely ignored? As an experiment I installed and started the old missions, that I played on TDM 1.00, and I get this warning with several (builder's influence, crown of penitence, outpost, trapped) and a similar warning about AAS_rat for a few others (return to the city, living expenses, lucia, chalice, thieves). Is this normal? I remember seeing the AAS_rat warning before (with TDM 1.00) but only for one mission, as I recall. This is on a fresh installation of Ubuntu 9.10 and TDM 1.01.
  5. Well, I updated my drivers.. nothing changed.. driver version is in the screen-shot There's just one, until i take more later, if anyone needs them.. And when I say "super smooth" it's relative, like 25 fps, which for me is great, since the game looks nice. Halo 1 maxed out still lags for me. as an example. Oh and last night the screenshots weren't saving, but today i typed in "screenshot' and it all started working, and last nights screens also were in the folder, which was empty last night.. Weird.. However they are saving at around 900kb.. which is to large, obviously.. And they are saved in some weird quicktime format. But that's kind of irrelevant. These white areas are not affecting gameplay, beside the cosmetic view of it.. Oh yea fraps worked great, thanks.
  6. I'm worried that the reason you are having good performance is because your graphics card is not actually rendering very much and as such, is able to power through the rendering pass. Yeah if prntscrn is only giving you a grey screen when pasting into a program you can also try running in windowed mode with: set r_fullscreen 0 vid_restart Also download fraps and run that when playing the game, and use it's internal screenshot taking ability to grab screens. Also go to the nvidia control panel and check out your system information; what driver are you using? I'm running 196.86 with no issues with 2xGeForce GTX 260M in SLi mode.
  7. Nice, now TDM loads up fine, no errors at all, but instead of actually running TDM, it runs Doom 3, which doesn't really work, the taskbar is visible, and the screen blinks white on and off.. But Doom 3 works fine If I go ahead and run it through Doom3.exe Any help?
  8. Hi. Got the mod yesterday. And so far the only real issue ive encountered is when you have entered all the rooms in the tutorial map the game slows down and get choppy, between 5 and 40fps. In the begining i get the constant 60. Every time i open a door the game freezes a few seconds, guessing it needs to load objects. But i dont remember doom 3 freezing when opening doors. Vista-32 4 GB RAM Q9400 Quad 2.66GHz 4870x2 2GB [EDIT] getting something called "Malloc Failure for 699200" whatever that means. could be the white screen i got just now when i tried to start the mod.
  9. Hey there! Ingame all object textures are missing and replaced by plain black color. Only the textures of NPCs and floor/wall/ceiling are displayed. I am not sure if the problem lies in my hardware ... every time i start the updater it claims "size mismatch, getting it." at most of the .pak copies in my tdm folder. My specs are: Intel Core 2 duo processor T8100 - 2.1 GHz ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400 XT 2GB DDR2 What is your suggestion how to solve the problem? Greetings, .jdb
  10. ok well i got my game resolution fixed for the dark mod(havent figured out doom 3 yet..) i had to switch to 4:3 1024x768 then switch it to 1920x1080 but when i get in game everything is upside down!?!?!?!??!!? edit: OK well i tried using 1280x1024 it got my character out of being upside down but the screen looks blurry and my character walks completely sideways...weird bugs.. im a huge thief fan i was really looking forward to playing!
  11. I'm writing late but there is one more way to solve it. When pops up the screen requesting the cd-key, type in console "disconnect" and that's it
  12. Hi all. I play Doom 3 no problem, but it installs darkmod no problem, it get me to the darkmod menue, and when I press the start mission button it ask me for a cd key. I dont understand this. I even put the startstring map name by using contl, alt ` a blue screen come on I type the mission file and it says not valid. Is this natural when I installed a new mission for example "crown of Penitence" it loads the video no problem then I press start mission it stills ask me for a cd key. The strange part that the fm mission crown of penitence is also in the doom folder as well in the darkmod folder could this be my problem and how to solve it.. I dont know what to do anymore. thanks Silent Warrior
  13. This can be cause by a number of things - the first is please try starting doom3 and putting in the CD key there. If it accepts the key, restart d3 and make sure it doesnt ask again. If this happens chances are that TDM will be fine. If that doesnt work, I remember someone had the same situation regarding gamex86.dll as happens with some people getting a black screen... but try making sure doom3 is happy first. Starting the map directly will skip a lot of 'nice' things, so it isnt really recommended.
  14. I have identified my brand of the black screen problem. Basically, after having gone through the briefings of an appearingly randomly selected number of fms, it gives me a dialogue box saying that the map files cant be found. Which would indicate a problem with the download. I later found out that the problem was caused by me having put spaces between fm names with multiple words when downloading them (i.e. sons of baltona.pk4). Writing sons_of_baltona.pk4 or sonsofbaltona.pk4 completely got rid of the problem.
  15. Hi everyone, The problem I have is when I start a new mission it installs everything. But when I press the start mission button, a screen pops up and request my cd key. Has anyone have this type of problems. I do not know how to get around this. I did put the cd numbers but nothing. Also, I notice in the Doom folder it has a trainng mission the same size as in the darkmod folder, is this natural. thanks Silent Warrior
  16. I had tried deleting the "doomconfig.cfg" file alone but I still encountered the Black Screen problem and not until I deleted both the "doomconfig.cfg" file and the "gamex86.dll" file did I have any success in getting rid of the Black Screen problem. I realize a new "gamex86.dll" file is created each time the game is launched. I'm assuming that the first "gamex86.dll" is somehow corrupted after the first launch and that's why it needs to be deleted so a new and clean "gamex86.dll" can be used on subsequent launches.
  17. I was finally able to fix my Black Screen problem. I had tried all the solutions listed in this thread but I still wasn't able to get TDM to work without the dreaded Black Screen so I decided to improvise and combine a couple of things that other people had found successful. This is exactly what I did: I renamed my Doom 3 directory to Doom3. Installed the torrent version of TDM and installed the 1.3.1.1304 patch. Launched TDM but didn't install the training mission nor any other mission instead I went directly into the "Settings" and changed my video settings. I then quit the game completely and then relaunched TDM and that's when I encountered the Black Screen so I quit the game (Alt+F4). I then went into my darkmod folder and deleted the "gamex86.dll" file and the "doomconfig.cfg" file. Launched TDM again and it worked fine. Note: I'm not sure if renaming my Doom 3 directory to Doom3 really helped but I noticed that someone else had tried this and I noticed that some of the documentation referenced Doom3 not Doom 3. Additionally, I didn't install the training mission or any other mission because on a previous attempt to fix the Black Screen problem I had installed the training mission to initiate the Black Screen and then I ended up having to delete the training mission and any files associated with that mission in order to get TDM to work. I just found it was simpler to initiate the Black Screen by going directly into the "Settings" and making some video changes. I'd hazard a guess that you could fix the Black Screen problem by just going in and deleting the "gamex86.dll" file and the "doomconfig.cfg" file from your darkmod folder but I'm too tired of messing around with this thing to test out that theory. I hope this information is helpful to someone.
  18. Hi everyone. I have a very strange problem with TDM. I can only describe it by saying that 3d graphics are "distorted" in a very weird way. I would like to take a screenshot, but the print screen key merely copies a grey rectangle to the clipboard, and pressing F12 does not seem to save a screenshot anywhere that I can find in the doom 3 directory, nor in my user profile directory. If you imagine looking at the pillars at the start of the training mission... for me it appears that the center of the screen has been shifted and stretched towards the right edge of the screen. Thus nothing seems to line up and the perspective of the scene looks very strange. Objects only seem to highlight if they are positioned towards the right edge of the screen as well. This happens with a variety of different screen resolutions, both in 4:3 and my monitor's native 16:10 aspect ratios. The bug does not seem to happen when just running Doom 3 by itself. My video card is an ATI Radeon HD 4980. I'm using the 9-12 driver version. I am downloading 10-1 at the moment and will try it later. My operating system is the 64-bit version of Vista Home Basic SP2. While I'm here, there is another problem. The tdmlauncher.exe in the darkmod directory does not work; it only launches Doom 3. I followed the advice on the FAQ and created a shortcut to "D:\Apps\Steam\Steam. exe -applaunch 9050 +set fs_game_base darkmod" which does launch TDM, but TDM does not recognise previously-installed FMs. For instance, I have to install the tutorial level every time I run the game. Looking at the doom 3 folder, I see 'training_mission' and tdmlauncher.log (attached) are being created in "D:\Apps\Steam\steamapps\ common\doom 3"--perhaps that is a clue?
  19. Thank you HiddenCoast. I will try this one. Springheel, I really don't know why you struggled with my question. I just wanted you to tell me what you thought was the best way to solve the Black Screen problem. It seems like a simple request. If you didn't have a suggestion then I wanted you to tell me what post from this thread seemed like the best solution again, seems like a simple request. It's true I said I have tried the suggestions in this thread but I also said that I would be more than happy to repeat a suggestion that looked promising to an expert such as yourself in the event that I didn't correctly follow the instructions the first time. I just wanted some Dark Team Mod advice.
  20. I disagree, I think it is the same problem. Just because people are finding different solutions to the problem it doesn't mean that it's not just one problem with a few different solutions to fix that one problem. I do research for a living and I often find there can be numerous ways to a problem but usually there is an easy way to fix the problem and many hard ways to fix the same problem. Yes, I have run TDM without any other Doom 3 Mods installed and still had the same Black Screen problem. I also completely uninstalled Doom 3, patched it, and installed TDM but I still got the Black Screen. Why don't you just tell me what you think is the best solution to this problem? Of all the solutions posted in this thread which one seems like the best solution? I assume with your knowledge you can easily weed out the good ideas from the bad.
  21. Thanks Myagi for the suggestion. Were you also experiencing the Black Screen bug and did this fix your problem? It seems like there are a lot of people experiencing this same Black Screen problem. There is a lot of speculation and a bunch of different ideas but does anyone have a definitive solution to this problem? Again, we all seem to be describing the exact same problem so it seems fair to think that there should just be one solution to this problem. I've tried the solutions listed in this thread but haven't been able to get TDM running. I might have missed something so is there one solution listed here that really should work?
  22. It doesn't appear that I'm going to get an answer from the Dark Mod team which is odd since this problem seems too large to ignore. How about this, does anyone know how to fix the black screen problem? I've tried the above suggestions but they didn't work for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  23. Sounds like "classic" ati POS. My old computer with a radeon9800 had sparkles over the entire screen when playing demanding games, like doom3. The solution was to clock the core down, using ATI Tool. Inexcusable IMO that a non-overclocked out-of-the-box card needs to be clocked down to work as advertised. For my new box I got a 4850, 2 or so months ago, and I was extremly PO'd when I saw artifacts like you describe, even in Quake bloody 1 (ezquake) on occasional surfaces. Never going to buy ATI again (luckily I only bought it as a temporary solution). I also got the same artifacts when trying TDM. It's not the same as on my 9800, those were single pixel sparkles, the new ones are larger blocks usually green but I think some red sometimes too, confined to surfaces or portals. Long story short, while I haven't gotten around to testing it yet, if possible you could try clocking it down a tad and see if it makes any difference. It's just pure speculation though based on my experience with my 9800.
  24. In my case it does not even get to the load screen or the load bar. The game crashes immediately after pressing the quickload key.
  25. I have encountered the issue #1. At the beginning of the mission quicksaving/loading works correctly. All the saves produced are "fine". But after some moment the savegame becomes "corrupted". After loading such a "corrupted" savegame: I can play the mission as long as I want, nothing strange happens.Saving the game works OK (but the produced saves are "corrupted" in the same way). When I try to quickload TDM crashes immediately (Visual Studio catches some exception). When I try to load a save which is "fine" it also crashes. When I try to quit mission it crashes. And when I win the mission it also crashes without showing stats screen or win movie."Corrupted" quicksave can always be loaded from fresh TDM successfully. They can also be loaded after loading some "fine" savegames. The .save file size is as the same (20-22Mb) for both "fine" and "corrupted" saves. So the problem is most likely in finishing game session. And this problem survives save + restart + load. Now I have this problem in map: "Trapped!". Also seen the same problem in the other map. In the first map I solved the problem by loading the last "fine" savegame and playing from it. In the "Trapped!" I decided to finish the mission without unnecessary loading... I do not know what pushes the savegame into the "corrupted" state. This bug is very annoying since after catching it each loadgame requires TDM restarting (which is very slow). And it is very sneaky because you understand that the game is corrupted only at the first quickload after corruption. And this bug can really spoil the fun for those who maintains only one save file (for example who often quicksaves but never does ordinary save).
