  1. I had this when I was in windowed mode, but full screen worked fine. I needed windowed to work and managed to get rid of the black screen by disabling post processing in the advanced video options. Don't know if either of you are running windowed but it's worth a try disabling post processing. Edit: re-read the earlier posts and realised it affected the GUI not just in game as in my case. Ignore my advice, PP shouldnt affect the main menu at all.
  2. I have the same problem. After launching TDM by doubleclicking thedarkmod.exe, I get a black screen, but the sound runs as normal. I also get the mouseover sound effects when I move the mouse over a menu item. This started yesterday, after I updated to version 1.08. My Doom 3 version is 1.3.1.1304, Win7 Home Premium, Phenom II X4 965, 4 GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 5800 graphics card, native resolution 1680x1050, which I've also edited DoomConfig to. As I don't know what would go into an autoexec file I can't try that option.
  3. I confirm graphical bugs on torches and trasparency. The only resolution that i can use it's my native resolution of the screen 1920x1080 all other res it's a mess. I have a lot of black/not present textures in some areas (maybe it's because i don't have doom3 base directory installed?)
  4. Hopefully the screenshot (very bottom of the post) will be clear enough, I had to pass it through Gimp. It's not limited to the mission pictured here, I've seen it happen on Training Mission and The Outpost. So presumably global problem. It just so happens that Thief's Den is probably the fastest loading mission by far. SOME GUI items appear black (here, on Thief's Den, the "Objectives" button in the briefing as well as the loading bar). In game... Shaders are completely weird in places. I've also seen corruption happen on some textures (namely on The Outpost, I can provide screenshots if needed). Water is... well, black. Torch smoke is just a black rectangle too (see the ground in the attached pic: THAT). The screen is also extremely dark as a whole, I have to push brightness/gamma to no end to be able to see something. It's not due to compositing or OpenGL in use, happens both in KDE and XFCE4 with compositing disabled (Arch Linux x64). It's not due to bad drivers (nvidia binary, BTW), anything runs fine, really (and Doom 3 looks as normal as ever). Oh. And it's not due to the update 1.07 -> 1.08, I reinstalled from scratch just to rule it out. Furthermore: F12 crashes the game so I have to resort to external applications for screenshots (minor, except when you want to show a graphical problem. Just my luck. >_>). Fiddling with the graphical settings crashes the game every now and then. (on the bright side of things, yay, a French translation that deserves the name; yay, 1.08; yay, no sound problems).   5. The Problem: I can see the mouse cursor and the Steam overlay when I run TDM, but otherwise the screen is black. Gauging by the audio and my ability to exit the game by a bit of careful mouse-clicking and guesstimation, it seems the game is running fine apart from the lack of video. My End of Things: Core i5, 32GB RAM, nVidia 460 2GB graphics card, 100s of GB free HDD space on a 1TB drive C. Windows 7 Ultimate. Steam version of Doom3, claiming to be the correct version for TDM. Custom shortcut to run the game: "C:\Games\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 9050 +set fs_game_base darkmod" Customised resolution in C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Doom 3\darkmod\DoomConfig.cfg to 1920*1200, Disabled Threaded Optimisation in nVidia Control Panel. I made this change after having a glance at the TDM Wiki. Enabling Threaded Optimisation does not appear to have any effect. What I'm Thinking It appears the game resets DoomConfig to a display resolution of 7xx*4xx whenever I run it. I've tried to write-protect the file, but that didn't stop the game from changing it. And I'm guessing the weird resolution the game insists on is outside the range of my panel (a nice, if older, Eizo 26" with a native resolution of 1920*1200).
  6. Hi all, I'm so happy that I found this mod again - I totally forgot about it, although as a Thief fan I really anticipated it back when it was first announced. But there's a problem when I launch it. The menu screen is completely black, just the cursor is visible. I hear the menu music and hear when I select menu items, but no visuals at all. Here's the console log (I can access the console just fine): http://pastebin.com/pzJEG30r As you can see, he was unable to load many of the files/textures/images, including "WARNING: Cannot find guis/mainmenu.gui", so I guess that's the problem. Doom 3 itself (and all other games as well) runs without any problems, it has the required patch, and the TDM updater did its work without a problem. I have an early Intel Dual Core CPU and an NVidia GTS 450 card, if that matters. Running on Windows 7 x64 with latest updates. Also, latest NVidia driver. I already looked through the FAQ and changed the multi display mode to "Single Display Performance" (since I use two monitors). But the problem persists. Doom 3, on the other hand, always runs, with or without these tweaks. Furthermore, I ensured that the "darkmod\DoomConfig.cfg" contains these settings from the FAQ: But that didn't help either. I also tried changing the resolution from 1920x1080 to 800x600, but as expected that doesn't change anything as well. Was just a try. Any help is very appreciated.
  7. Hi all, I bought a new laptop with an Intel HD4000 as graphic card by I'm having problems running TDM. First of all I can run Doom 3 and many other games with this card, so I think the problem is not in the video card performances. When I run the game I get the message on top of the thread. I already check FAQ and put in the configuration the fix for black screen, but nothing.   8. You will need to make sure that image_useAllFormats and image_usePreCompressedTextures are both 1. There are situations where these will default to 0, in that case you will get a black screen and cursor, as described. I think this will fix it. You will also need to understand that Intel gfx is beyond the scope of what we will try to actively support. Hatemail for this topic can be directed to Intel. It also looks like you are using PulseAudio - in which case, you're going to have trouble at the next turn. Hatemail for this can be direct to Ubuntu devs for picking the worst horse.

  11. I've a black screen when I start the training mission, I can hear the sounds but no graphics. My system specs are: Pentium IV 1.6 GHz 512 RAM 64 MB Video Card I can run Doom 3 fine, albeit with low settings and a few tweaks on the configs here and there. Were my config tweaks the problem? Or is it because of the fact that TDM doesn't have Quality options? If so, how can I fix this?
  12. Hello Taffers, Today when I tried TDM, and the resolution was not full screen. I don't know why, i changed absolutely nothing.   13. I tried all the suggestions and none worked. Deleting the config file, now launches TDM non windowed but still just a black screen. I had several D3 mods, deleted all but TDM, but will try a reinstall. That's about all it likely can be at this point! Thanks for the suggestions and will try to feedback once it is working. PS: launching via D3 tdm mod and TDMlauncher results in the same thing btw. Happy gaming all!!
  14. Newly updated TDM (latest v1.06), not played in a long time, Doom 3 works fine (resolution is not avail for my 1440x900 screen but plays fine at lesser rez). When I launch using tdmlauncher in D3/TDM directory, I get a window (D3 runs full screen), I get sound, sound affects from moving mouse around, but no graphics, just black screen! I have ATI hd4650 512mb card, latest drivers, Win7-64. NE1 know what might be wrong? Thanks!! PS: Looked for similar problems but found nothing like this for win7.
  15. I updated to 1.05 from 1.04 and afterward I could not get missions to load properly, even training. I removed everything, downloaded/installed 1.05 from scratch. I had no missions installed, installed the training, then while the training was loading, I had an error regarding my video card driver. I have intergated Intel 82945G Express chipset family gpu, Vista home sp2 running. Doom 3 is from Steam, and it runs fine, even the resurrection of evil addon pack. I have the most recent video drivers for this Intel chipset installed via HP update. Not sure what tweaking I can do to my TDM configuration to work well with the video chipset. I was fine on earlier versions of this TDM. This problem happened on TDM fms also. During the loading screen "please wait" screen all seems fine, then I hear the sounds of the torches in the background, the screen changes to black, then Windows tells me the video driver had an issue and had to recover. From event viewer: Faulting application Doom3.exe, version 1.0.0.1, time stamp 0x45ad459a, faulting module ig4dev32.dll, version 7.14.10.1461, time stamp 0x47e9296a, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0002e4cb, process id 0x169c, application start time 0x01cbfc51e27d9fe4.   17. I've noticed black artefact's for fraction of seconds on the left side of the screen, but they don't appear in the bottom corner (more like distributed all over). I thought it was a consequence of the light gem hack you're doing.
  18. I once got tdm working on my desktop once, and it was great! But I have since scrapped it, and now have a laptop instead. Though I have got it running on my laptop, things aren't as smooth as hoped. For instance, if I enable vsync the game becomes VERY choppy, even from the menu screen. This makes it virtually unplayable. I've managed to get it to run by forcing vsync off in the nvidia control panel, but this has left me with the annoying lines that vsync corrects. Also, one thing I have not been able to change at all is the the screen size. For some reason the game doesn't utilize my entire screen. Instead it only takes up about only half of the screen, leaving black borders on the sides. I've tried messing with the aspect ratio an resolution to no avail. This, coupled with the vsync problem has proved very annoying. Has anyone had a similar issue? My specs are: Windows 7 64bit i5 2.40GHz quad core GeForce 335M 4gb DDR3 RAM Note: This might even be a problem with my video drivers. Last I updated them, they've been conflicting with my source games. Thanks!
  19. After a while I wanted to play the dark mod again, I am happy to see the community is still active. I once again got the `black screen' on startup, and I solved it the same way. The get the feeling of the game again I wanted to play the Training Mission, but I got the message on post title. Exploring the source code a little I got the game seek that executable using g_Global.GetDarkmodPath() / "tdmlauncher.linux", and according to the log 'Darkmod directory is /opt/doom3/darkmod/'; so it seems a little strange as the resulting path seems correct. I read about in the wiki, but my dmargs.txt contains only comments (or so I think, it contains only lines starting with #). What can I try? Thanks etb
  20. Well I have Doom 3 for Steam, and you can set "launch options" for Doom 3. The option I had set was: +set fs_game sikkmod (to start the hdr mod made by sikkpin) But then I decided to change it to: +set fs_game darkmod (to start the dark mod) Then I read you were supposed to use tdmlauncher so I took that out of the launch options, but still no joy. Edit: Anyways, I took the launch options out and I just double-click "tdm launcher" but I'm still getting a black screen (after seeing the default doom 3 loading screen)

All my missions show up in the list, but whenever I install one (and tdm restarts), it says Mission Installed: "" i.e - it's blank. However, I have the option to start the mission, but then I get this error. So.. what's going on? I have deleted my entire dark mod folder and replaced it with the one I originally downloaded, but it doesn't make any difference. The FPS counter is still enabled by default as well. Plus, when I try to use the tdm launcher after a mission is installed, I don't see the usual dark mod initial loading screen. Instead, I see the regular doom 3 loading screen (with the planet), but then the dark mod appears to load, but the screen is now black. So yeah.. I don't know what's going on. Sometimes I get a black screen and sometimes I don't, but I can't play any missions regardless.. : ( Maybe simply deleting my darkmod folder isn't good enough? I noticed that there were some additional files installed to my doom 3 base directory, but I'm not sure which ones they are, so maybe someone could tell me how to completely uninstall darkmod? Or if you know what's causing my problem and how to fix it, that'd be great as well..
  22. Ok, I finally got it to work, but it didn't involve either of the fixes you guys were talking about. First, I would change only these options: Screen Ratio: 16x9 Resolution: 1920x1280 Fullscreen: Yes Are you sure you want exit (Ask every time?) No (in other words, I told it not to ask me every time). Then the next time I started dark mod, black screen. Although I saw the fps counter (which by the way is rather odd in my opinion to have enabled by default..) So I went into my doomconfig.cfg and started changing everything back to default settings. Still black screen. (Weird, huh?) Next, I overwrote the entire darkmod folder with the one I had originally downloaded (unaltered). It worked, but I had the same problem as in the beginning (wasn't full screen, lower res, etc.) So I begun changing options again, restarted, and black screen. Then, I simply the darkmod.cfg from the original, unaltered darkmod folder that I downloaded, and overwrote the one in my darkmod folder, and then it worked! Although oddly enough, it was still set to 1920x1080, 16x9 and fullscreen was enabled when I started dark mod. I thought it would've overwrote it back to default settings (1280x720 and whatnot), but it didn't. Instead, it worked. Although it did seem to forget that I told it not to ask me if I wanted to exit for some reason. So whatever. I'm just glad I got it to work. Although I think something strange is at play here.. Edit: As a side note, it'd be nice if there was a "mods" option on the front end dark mod menu so that I could switch to another mod. I modified my doom 3 shortcut to start right into darkmod, but unfortunately I can't switch to other mods after I do that, so I may just take that out for now and switch to darkmod within another mod.
  23. So I just installed Dark Mod for the first time, and the first time I launched it, it was fine except for the fact that it was windowed instead of fullscreen. I changed the resolution to 1920x1080, and I think I changed the option that said "automatically open unlocked doors", and then I quit the Dark Mod so that the resolution changes would take effect. Now, whenever I restart Dark Mod, all I get is a black screen : ( I don't know what in the world is going on.. I even deleted my doomconfig.cfg file out of the darkmod folder because I figured that Dark Mod would just put a default config back in there when I started it again and it didn't detect doomconfig.cfg. However, although it did replace the file, it looks as though it kept the resolution at 1920x1080 so it didn't seem to go back to default. What's going on here? I play other mods at 1920x1080 no problem.. and I really want to play Dark Mod lol : /
  24. I had this at one time with the trainer and also I think for a time during development of my current FM - might have been while I was trying to optimize some big visportals in the city area. I saw black for a few seconds then very briefly the blue screen then reboot. My guess is that it is a normal CTD but also screws up Windows or RAM management somewhere. We used to see blue screens much more commonly years ago but that doesn't mean that Windows is now perfect and traps everything. BTW are you using either of the Alchemist patches and what date did you download (because the combination lock patch was included in an FM update but the spiky ball one remains a separate patch.) The spiky ball bug was the one that CTDed but only on some systems. The combo lock didn't cause a crash just failed to work properly in some situations.
  25. nbohr1more got it right the first time. boy do I feel dumb for some reason I thought my version of Doom3 was pre-patched. yeah I'm a dummy today. so it is working now, thank you very much for the help but I have another question. I have a wide 18~ish inch monitor and the game doesn't display all the way out to the side. the top and bottom meet up well but there's close to 2 inches of black nothing on either side of the game. my screen resolution is 1680 x 945 the closest I can get the game setting to that is 1680 x 1050 but the black side don't seem to change any from me adjustingz resolution or aspect ratio. the game seem pinched side to side to me. is there any way I can get the game to display fully from side to side? thanks again
